Benoit and Guerrero

Recommended Posts

With the US title tournament getting closer to ending, I know they are ex-US Champions, but who did they did they defeat before and who did they lose to the title?

*WCW memory is glitchy

Guerrerro Beat DDP at Starrcade 96, and Lost The Title To Dean Malenko at Spring Stampede 97 I think...

Benoit Won The US Title from david flair in the summer of 99, I'm not sure who he lost to though, Sid or Rick Steiner comes to mind

That's what I was thinking. Why not just look it up yourself? It would've been a lot quicker.

Or in the time you guys complained about it, you could have helped him out...

Maybe we can get a "Info" post pinned to the top of this forum, like they have in the puro section for information

Thanks. I hope either of these guys (including Matt Hardy) wins it. FUCK YOU BILLY GUNN!

I replied to the thread 22 minutes after it was posted. Logic would tell you that he should've had the answer by then. Either by looking it up himself, or by someone else posting it before me.

Um, I didn't help him out???

I not only gave him a _link_ to the site where he could get information, I told him how _I_ got it so if he had another question he could search google before coming here.

They treated Benoit so bad with that belt. I sense a little Deja Vu in the works.

The Benoit / Jarrett ladder match was pretty good though as was the Guerrero / Syxx ladder match. I just got done watching after downloading them off Kazaa.

Rico, the PWI Almanac is great for these type of questions. Go buy it. It will be your best friend.

Just pisses me off how the announcing teams don't aknowledge title history, heck even history for that matter, much during a match.

Four people in the US title tournament:

Gunn, Hardy, Benoit, Guererro.

*sigh*

Who will win?

God, not Billy Gunn...ANYBODY but Gunn

*US Title Tournament is a big reason why I still give a shit about Vengeance. If Guerrero jobs to Gunn 3 days, all hopes are down.

You know what? I know that Gunn is rumored to win, but I don't think it will happen. I think WWE will be smart enough to have a Eddie/Benoit match. I don't know what Matt will do, and I don't care what Billy does, but I think that will be the finals, with Eddie winning due to Rhyno interference. Then a Benoit/Rhyno match is set up for SS and we have a good US champion. Voila!

I don't want the announce teams to acknowledge the history of the US title. In my view, all WCW belts died with WCW.

I just think Benoit deserves better. He helps put on arguably the best match of 2003 so far. If its not winning the US title, its at least getting another WWE World title shot. I'm sick of him being stuck going nowhere in the tag team division. I have no problem with Rhyno. I like Rhyno. But Benoit and Rhyno = styles clashing = shit.

What, in your history with the WWE, gives you this idea? Are we talking about the same company that turned Eddie heel dispite him being the hottest star on their show?? The company who jobbed Benoit out for no reason at all? The company that still employs Billy Gunn???

Because, somehow, they have to save their PPV with one outstanding match. The main event will be alright, but Big SHow puts a huge hinder on it. The tag match should be pretty good too. But an Eddie/Benoit match will put it over the top. Oh, and they like to have the finals of tournements to be a good match. See the Smackdown tag team belt finals from late last year. I don't doubt they'll do that again.

Well, I feel Eddie is just one of those guys that should stay on one side. In his case, a heel. He's been a heel for 90% of his career (like Jericho). The only reason why he became a face this year in the first place was because Green Bay cheered for Eddie because they wanted him to kick Cena's ass after cutting that heat promo on them on that one edition of Smackdown.

Anyway, I always liked Eddie as a heel. Cheat To Win, its legendary from him. And he still gets the crowd behind him despite being a heel (like Matt Hardy), I find that impressive.

No reason?! Man, Tajiri was all over Eddie's ride which gave him...ah shit, I can't even defend that. What an awful turn.

Although Smackdown is a little heel short right now

The PPV main event will be just fine. Both Angle and Lesnar have had decent matches with Show in the past, and a better match with each other.

You can't really say they should already be blowing off Angle v Lesnar in singles. And you can't really say either guy should be jobbing right now. So why not put someone in that position who is meaningless anyway and let him take the fall? It makes sense, and it furthers the storyline.

As for the US title tournament, I have no idea what's going to happen.

Oh, don't get me wrong, it's the right move. But it won't be a ****+ match or anything, that's all I'm saying.

I hope so. I don't think I've ever seen Billy Gunn in a singles match that was considered to be "good".

I just love how they tease us with Benoit/Guerrero to be a possible final match. Chris and Eddie have always had good matches. I really liked their match from Armageddon last year also.

Vince has but *Steph vs. Sable* and *Vince vs. Gowan* on this card. It should be obvious that his head isn't in the game right now. _Paul Heyman_ was responsible for the tag final - as he has always handled Benoit and Angle. Benoit vs. Rhyno and Tajiri vs. Eddie is more likely (Rhyno runs in on Benoits match, Tajiri runs in on Eddies). Vince _loves_ Billy Gunn and well, doesn't love Benoit and Eddie.

Ok, so _how_ does this justify turning him heel??? Especially when he's been more over as a _face_ in the WWE than he has even been as a heel. "His been it a lot so he should be it again" - that doesn't fly.

The only reason why he became a face this year in the first place was because Green Bay cheered for Eddie because they wanted him to kick Cena's ass after cutting that heat promo on them on them on that one edition of Smackdown.

Which edition was that?? The Eddie love began with his matches with Edge, specifically the blow-off No Dq match.

Anyway, I always liked Eddie as a heel. Cheat To Win, its legendary from him. And he still gets the crowd behind him despite being a heel (like Matt Hardy), I find that impressive.

The WWE can do one of two things here - completely ignore the heel turn and keep Eddie face, or force the crowd to boo him. If they force the crowd to boo him (with cheap heat, etc) then Eddie is _doomed_ because that will cancell out the fans' desire to cheer him. The WWE will most likely push him like that.

I don't think they'll do Rhyno/Benoit at Vengence. They only have 2 SMackdowns left until Vengence. Why would Rhyno turn on Benoit next week randomly? Rhyno getting jealous of Benoit in the finals makes alot more sense. And they could do Tajiri vs. Eddie as the first US title feud.

I know that Vince loves Billy, but I hear he's gotten negative reactions practically wherever they go. Vince doesn;t want another Scott Steiner on his hands where the crowd is booing the hell out of the face...live with no editing.

Is it more that Vince loves Billy or that JR loves Billy? He has a never ending hard on for Billy Gunn.

Billy Gunn fought a jobber a week or two ago on Velocity. Even the jobber was getting cheered more than Billy. Seriously.

As for the Guerrero face turn, it happened on 1/30/03, the same edition where McMahon announced that the Rock would face Hogan at No Way Out. Cena came out did another one of his raps, but ending it by dissing the Packers (I think they lost a game recently at that time). Green Bay BOOED the hell out of him so when Eddie came back, they cheered for him (Eddie was a heel before all this happened) because they wanted Cena's ass kicked.

You don't think that??? Yeah, I see where you are coming from, it's not like the WWE has mishandled benoit and rhyno for the past couple of months ESPECIALLY regarding PPVs.

Why would Rhyno turn on Benoit next week randomly? Rhyno getting jealous of Benoit in the finals makes alot more sense.

But having a screw-job in the finals doesn't work. It puts the title in question and it takes the issue away from the winner. The last two tournaments had clean wins (Cena over Benoit, Angle/Benoit over Rey/Edge) so I suspect this one would too (I expect the finals to be Gunn vs. Hardy with Gunn going over). To have Rhyno turn on Benoit in the semis (a) sets up Matt Hardy to be the 'questionable' finalist (see, Dibiase WM 4) and (b) sets up a quick match at the PPV (to which they would expand on for SS).

And they could do Tajiri vs. Eddie as the first US title feud.

Yeah, they could have two minorities fight over the US title... Or they could have Billy Gunn win it... *Jeopardy music plays* ... Yeah...

Do you know how many chances Vince McMahon has given Billy Gunn?? You don't think that's because he's over, do you?
