Shocking moments in wrestling!

Recommended Posts

This is what I could think of at the moment.

In no particular order:

1.) Mike Tyson showing the world he could count to three.

2.) Al Snow introducing the world to Chester McCheesington and then turning heel after the match was over by helping Steve Blackman kill Cheesy.

3.) HHH being handed the World Heavyweight Title.

4.) Shawn Michaels giving his "I lost my testicles...I mean smile" speech

5.) Test actually getting over with the crowd earlier this year before being put in the doghouse.

6.) Montreal Screwjob

7.) The WM 13 crowd turning on Bret

8.) The SS crowd turning on the Rock last year.

9.) Seeing Eric Bischoff and Vince McMahon together on the same screen

10.) DDP revealing himself to the world that he was the Undertaker's wife's stalker.

11.) It was Chris Jericho that was the reason for the original countdown.

12.) Austin turning heel at WM XVII and shaking hands / drinking beer with Vince.

Seeng Bubba Ray, D-von, Credible. Raven, Tazz, and Rhyno turn on Jericho and Kane.

I was shocked Vince would give something back to the ECW fans.

I'm pretty much with you on the EZE/McMahon thing.

I literally had to hit myself when I saw the two of them hug on the RAW stage. Truly the most surreal moment in wrestling for me.

Shawn Michaels' return match at SummerSlam being as good as it was. Basically, I expected a below-average brawl and it was so much more than that. I was there live for that show, and was amazed at how much that match exceeded my expectations.

Agreed.

I bought SummerSlam for the main event & the opener, however I was interested in seeing just how BAD HBK and HHH could be. I was very, very surprised.

Raw and Nitro on the same channel, at the same time at the last Nitro.

ECW returning. Did I ever mark out when I saw RVD and Dreamer coming from the crowd...

Bishoff and McMahon hugging.

FInding out about Owen's death. I cried pretty hard at that...I was only 12 when it happened and I loved Owen.

Bret getting screwed. I didn't get it and I was really confused, but I knew that something wasn't right.

THere's more, but that's all I can think of right now.

I was actually at Raw the night Bischoff debuted. When they showed him on the Titan tron backstage, pretty much the entire place went silent. And when he came out and hugged, there was even more silence. It was unbelievably silent. Not the dead kind of silent, but the speechless silent

Triple H retaining the belt at WM2000. Until then, heels didn't leave Mania as WWF champ. Never, ever, ever.

Pretty much the entire Shane/Kurt match from KOTR 2001. Everything about it shocked, and thrilled me.

Sable returning. More as a disturbing shock than a happy one.

Ted DiBiase becoming a preacher.

Pretty much Bret Hart's entire life the last 6 years has been one shocking, horrible event after another.

The dismal WWE incarnation of the nWo. I knew it was probably going to be bad, but JESUS. That made the Invasion look golden.

Mr. Perfect's terrible, untimely death. Made even sadder by the fact that he did it to himself.

I was at WM 9. I thought Yokozuna was gonna be the first one to do it, but Hogan came out at the end for the save. God, I wish the whole ordeal didn't happen. I wanted to see Yoko tap out to the Sharpshooter (it was already shocking Bret managed to get him into the submission in the first place)

13.) The Goldberg promo at WM (although I took that as a bad shock)

14.) Brock Lesnar botching the Shooting Star Press, pretty much one of the scariest moments in pro wrestling

15.) Eddie Guerrero returning in early 2002

16.) Jericho surprising everybody by winning the Unification Tournament (Pretty much everybody thought it was going to be Austin Vs. Rock)

17.) Albert beating Kane to become the IC champion

18.) HBK returning and joining the nWo

19.) Goldberg's streak ending

20.) Bubba powerbombing Mae Young through a wooden table after jumping off the RAW stage to do it.

21.) The Milk Truck

Agreed. Everyone had pretty much made up their minds it was going to be Austin or Rock. I was pleasently suprised.

Seeing Jericho's Raw debut - I was spoiled for it but being in that crowd and hearing the pop...

Dreamer and RVD's runin during Invasion - I literally screamed. Once I settled down, I called people who were working and missing it. B-)

Jeff Hardy winning the Intercontinental belt. Sure, it was meaningless and he lost it three days later but I still squealed, silly Hardyz mark that I am.

The Beer Bath

War Games with the Fake Sting vs. the Real Sting

The Mick Foley/Rock Superbowl Half Time World Title Match

And I'm surprised no one has said these two:

Mick Foley off the top of the HIAC onto the Announce Booth, and through the top of the HIAC falling onto a chair

Steve Blackman's jump from the Titantron for the elbow drop on Shane McMahon

My answer's a bit old school, but one of the most shocking moments I can remember was when HBK superkicked Marty Jannetty and then threw him thru the window on the Barber Shop just moments after reconciling with him.

When Macho Man was tied in the ropes and Jake's snake was going after him. That scared me shitless when I first saw it.

That Bischoff/McMahon hug..........that was like Saddam Hussein and Prez Bush hugging. I remember it happened in NJ. That was another shocking event there. I remember the last one at NJ was when Vince returned and kicked Shane's ass.

McMahon and Bischoff hugging- it was like hell had frozen over.

Raw and Nitro simulcast- it was surreal seeing Vince McMahon on Nitro.

Owen pinning Bret at WM X- in my opinion, one of the biggest PPV upsets ever.

Seeing Ric Flair with the NWA World Title on WWF TV in 1991.

Hogan turning heel at Bash at the Beach ‘96.

Bret vs. HBK at Survivor Series 1997- watching live, the only thing that I could say was “what the fuck just happened?”

Maven eliminating Taker from the 2002 Royal Rumble.

Brooklyn Brawler pinning HHH in 2000.

I'm kind of surprised that no one has made a Goldust joke yet.

22.) Goldust revealing that his long hair was really a wig.

23.) Kane's debut

24.) When the Big Boss Man came back in '98

25.) Stone Cold not naming a winner between Kane Vs. Undertaker at the original JD, that fucking pissed me off!

26.) Warrior debuting in WCW.

27.) Austin / Goldberg meeting for the first time and doing the staredown.

28.) Rock / Goldberg match, just couldn't the match was really happening and that they were in the same ring.

29.) Hawk falling off the Titantron

30.) The Shockmaster >_<

31.) The Hogpen Match

Molly's debut on Raw, casually destroying Trish. But what was really shocking was Trish deciding to be a full-fledged wrestler from that.

Godfather renouncing his pimp ways by throwing a ho, now Victoria, very hard through a table.

Austin getting screwed by Shane at Survivor Series '98. It was my first PPV and I was just sitting there in shock.

Everything Kurt and Shane did at the King of the Ring. I was at that PPV and it was mindblowing.

Maven eliminating Taker from the Royal Rumble, because my friend who I was watching it with said that Taker would be the one that year to last the longest.

Austin getting hit by the car at Survivor Series '99.

The Austin/Kurt non-finish at SummerSlam '01. I ordered the encore because I was at a barbeque, and it was like 2:00 am and I was going crazy at the ending because I was so into the match.

Jericho winning the mini tournament to become champion. Me and my friend were going crazy.

Austin beating Vince in a cage match after already being shocked by the debut of the Big Show. We had a room full of guys just screaming and hugging, it was a great mark moment. Same happened when Austin beat Taker in a first blood match, and when Austin won his 3rd Royal Rumble.

Being left silent watching Foley lose the HiaC match to HHH on a big screen TV. Then we all stood up and cheered for Mick.

When Stephanie and HHH hugged after HHH pinned McMahon. I never saw that coming.

Angle losing the title to Rock at the PPV before WrestleMania. I thought Rock had no chance of winning.

Jericho's debut. Everybody knew he would show up, but not with that kind of entrance, and not by interupting the Rock. It looked like they made a main eventer out of him in one night. Of course things didn't actually turn out that way.

Rock winning at SS. I was sure it would be Taker/Austin in the final.

KOTR98: I still don't know how someone could walk in and go "I think I know what we could do, you could have me thrown off the cell, and then I could climb up and get thrown off again", and they would be like "Good idea, let's go with that"

Hearing Foley won the title. Because it was a taped RAW. This would be sorta like hearing today that Benoit had beat Brock for the title next week on Smackdown.

Triple H crashing Steph and Test's wedding. Since I thought all the Test/Steph was corny as all the 90210 episodes all packed into one. I thought Trips was the man for ruining it all.

'Road Warrior' Hawk's "suicide" drop from the top of the RAW stage.

Fake as shit looking back, but as a mark at the time I was hella-scared.
