Guest The Decadent Slacker Posted July 13, 2003 Report Posted July 13, 2003 1.) Owen-i was at my grandma's that Sunday when the local news said something about a wrestler falling to his death in the ring. I remembered the PPV was on, went "Holy Shit!" we were leaving & the news on the car radio said it was Owen (i was thinking Al Snow or Bob Holly: hardcore shit gone wrong). The tribute RAW is one of my favorites of all time, call it exploitation if will, but i still loved the fact they did something special instead of the Pillman wife interview. 2.) Gun Angle-freaked me the fuck out when it happened. I always knew wrestling was "fake", but damn, that was REALLY intense for the time. Pissed me off due to the lack of payoff, though. 3.) Hogan goes heel-only got me because, as a mark, i was CONVINCED that the nWo was WWF invading (i missed part of Vince's statement "they are NOT reprisenting the WWF"). I was hoping that Ahmed & HBK's substitute partner (replacing Warrior) would be Hogan. 4.) ECW Lives-the guys stormed the ring, then i notice who it is: Justin, Rhyno, Dudleyz, Taz, Raven-HOLY SHIT! Seeing Dreamer was surprising especially. 5.) The entire Macho Man/Jake angle-my favorite angle of all time. THIS set the bar for shocking television in wrestling. Jake smacking Liz still gives me goosebumps.
Lil' Bitch Posted July 13, 2003 Author Report Posted July 13, 2003 32.) Sid turning heel, not once (leaving Hogan to get beat up on SNME), not twice (beating up HBK the night after WMXI), but THREE times (when he was with Money Inc.) 33.) Bischoff's RAW deadline. The angle literally had me on the edge of my seat. 34.) Brock Lesnar's debut - I was like Holy shit, that guy is huge 35.) Booker T appearing at KOTR 2001 36.) Foley being tossed off the HIAC and STILL going through with the match. 37.) The Dudley Boyz getting back together at Survivor Series 2002. 38.) John Cena winning the Backlash tournament. 39.) Sean Waltman coming back to WWE night after WMXIV. 40.) Angle doing the run-in at the end of Winner Take All match at Survivor Series 2001. 41.) Undertaker coming back...as a biker.
Guest Trivia247 Posted July 13, 2003 Report Posted July 13, 2003 I would have added HHH sim fucking a "Dead" body and Kane Chokeslamming Undertaker into a occupied Casket rolled out onto Raw. Full of dead remains...sorta
Lil' Bitch Posted July 13, 2003 Author Report Posted July 13, 2003 42.) Brock Lesnar winning the WWE Championship in 5 months after making his debut. 43.) RVD doing the Van Daminator AND the Van Terminator on RAW. 44.) Rhyno being revealed to be E & C's childhood friend. 45.) Rhyno spearing Jericho through the SD logo wall. 46.) Torrie / Dawn lesbian footage 47.) Kevin Nash injuring himself again in his return match. 48.) Scott Steiner debuting in MSG 49.) The Rock returning this year...bald. 50.) Jeff Hardy getting fired. 51.) How successful Mattitude has become.
Guest CanadianChick Posted July 13, 2003 Report Posted July 13, 2003 Wow, you sure get shocked alot Rico...
Guest The Czech Republic Posted July 13, 2003 Report Posted July 13, 2003 Wow, you sure get shocked alot Rico... He sure does!
Guest BobBacklundRules Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 let's see... Owen falling to his death during the PPV The Raw TLC, who cares if the match sucked it was still cool Dx returning then HHH turning and giving the safest ugliest pedigree ever WWF buying WCW and ECW Final Nitro ever ECW on TNN, I never knew it was on untill I found it while flipping through channels, it brought me back as a wrestling fan Brock blowing his SSP debut, at Wrestlemania, in the main event, that was supposed to end the match The XFL and how horribly it sucked TWO UNDERTAKERS!!!! ... ah the mark years
Guest undisputedjericho Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 Chris Jericho finally winning the WCW title...only it was in a match between two WWF wrestlers. I never understood why the Alliance would let two guys outside of their camp fight for their belt.
rising up out of the back seat-nuh Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 Wow, you sure get shocked alot Rico... He sure does! Rico = Tweek off South Park
Guest Askewniverse Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 Wow, you sure get shocked alot Rico... He sure does! Rico = Tweek off South Park Next thing you know, Rico will be talking about underpants gnomes. Getting back to the original topic, I'd say that David Arquette winning the WCW title was pretty shocking, but in a very bad way. There's just something wrong about the fact that Dewey had a WCW title reign, while Chris Jericho had to come to the WWF to win it.
Guest Nevermortal Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 The Radicalz jumping the guardrail and DESTROYING the New Age Outlaws. Shocking, and I marked the fuck out.
Guest Nater Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 Lita helps the Hardyz win for the 300th time!! Landmark!!
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 Rick Rude On Raw and Nitro on the same night... proving the fact that Rick Rude was the fucking man
Guest BobbyWhioux Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 Owen Hart beating Bret Hart at WM 10 Hogan turning heel and joining the NWO (1996) Only slightly less shocking was finding myself cheering him on as a the badguy. Rick Rude having Sting's number. I mean, sure, I could buy him beating Sting the first time [mark mode: Rude was new to WCW and very good; it would take Sting a while to figure out how to beat him, just like it takes ballplayers time to figure out how to hit a new rookie pitcher] But Rude just kept beating Sting in 1991-1992. Yokozuna defeating Hulk Hogan at King Of The Ring 1993. The Montreal Incident. Owen Hart dying. Sgt. Slaughter winning the WWF title from the Ultimate Warrior (I hadn't watched much wrestling and my friends who did constantly ragged on Slaughter to the point where I thought he was some sort of WWF counterpart to the L.A. Clippers or some perrenial underdog. So yeah, him beating the virtually undefeated Warrior shocked the hell out of me.) WCW going out of business / Vince McMahon buying it out. The Failure of The Invasion Angle / Screwing up "WWF vs WCW" Steven Regal in what I later found out to be a shoot, wrestling Goldberg for 8 minutes and making Goldberg look like Gold; Regal made it look like the two move power freak could wrestle, too, and was countering everything the mat specialist Regal was throwing at him. First time I saw an ECW show (November 2 Remember 1997). ECW was just so...different... from what I had seen before. And I don't just mean the hardcore crap. The "personality" of the company was just so different.
Guest Plushy Al Logan Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 Miss Elizabeth tearing off her skirt- looking back at it, it still has some shock value. Now it seems to be an every other week thing. The Giant survives his fall. Bret/Austin WM 13 Earthquake kills Hulk Hogan Earthquake sits on Damien.
Guest THE MIGHTY THOR Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 -RVD doing the van-terminator on Heyman while holding his own chair(Fonzie wasn't there to hold it for him). -ECW reunites in the WWF. -Manking falling off the HITC twice in one night and being tombstoned onto thumbtacks and being able to do a run-in in the main event later on in the same ppv. -Sabu v.
