Wyatt Earp or Tombstone?

I am a huge fan of Tombstone, and I am watching Wyatt Earp right now. Although I am liking Dennis Quaid as Doc Holliday, I still gotta give the edge to Tombstone. It has wittier dialogue, better action sequences, and I gotta take Kurt Russell over Kevin Costner in the title role.

I don't think you could really call Tombstone "better". Basically it breaks down like this: Wyatt Earp was better, Tombstone was more fun. Wyatt Earp was the story of Wyatt Earp, Tombstone was a silly summer blockbuster action flick. I own them both, though.

Tombstone.

Why?

Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday.

Same here. I loved almost everything about Tombstone. But Wyatt Earp wasn't some shoot-em-up action movie. It actually tried to tell the story, and tell it accurately. Plus, from what I've heard, Dennis Quaid's performance was supposedly a lot more like the real Doc Holliday.

Tombstone isn't as accurate but it's by far more entertaining.

Wyatt Earp was too long and slow in my opinion. You can tell the true story and still tell it in an enternaining way. Tombstone was a Western that non-Western fans could get into and it does the genre a great service by that.

Has anyone seen Wild Bill? A film of the same ilk around the same era. It stars Jeff Bridges as Wild Bill Hickok and tries to tell his story in a similar vain as Wyatt Earp.

Haven't seen Wyatt Earp. Tombstone is a classic though. But since you hold such a high regard for Wyatt Earp, I guess I'll go to the Big Blue Screw (Best Buy) and pick it up tomorrow.

I've seen them both and like them both, but Tombstone gets the edge for Kilmer's performance.

Wyatt Earp.

Tombstone was like the MTV version of Wyatt Earp.

Kilmer wins it for my money, although I have to admit that I didn't even recognize Quaid with all that weight gone.

But in watching Wyatt Earp, I could appreciate Tombstone better by knowing what they were trying to say happened and where Wyatt's opium addicted wife came from and such.

Tombstone is hands down the better movie. Val Kilmer was at his best in that movie.

I frankly thought Wyatt Earp really sucked. First off, yeah it goes over most of Earp's life but not very many people CARE about Earp outside of his Tombstone exploits.

Tombstone isn't really told in the usual manner reserved for the subject. It goes on well past the OK Corral (which everyone expects to be the finish). And yes, Kilmer was the man in that movie.

Although Johnny Depp wouldn't look much like Holliday, I'd like to see him take a crack at the role.

For that role alone Val Kilmer is and forever will be the man. His performance as Doc Holiday is without a doubt one of the best acting jobs I have ever seen. The scene where he and Johnny Ringo 'duel' in the bar with the gun and the shot glass is just pure gold, and just made the appearence of Doc instead of Wyatt to fight Ringo that much better.
