Some World War II posters encouraged women to work in the factories to produce war material while the men were off fighting. Most of these posters featured a woman wearing a red bandana and working at various heavy industry tools and/or machines. She was called Rosie the Riveter.

 

That's it in a nutshell. What a use of a history degree.
