Guest FeArHaVoC Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 We all know WWE PPV buy rates are down and have been going down over the past year. Do you think it might be because people are buying TNA's PPV's every week instead? I'm not up to date on TNA business wise, but they must be at least breaking even to continue with PPV's every week. I'm not saying the Jarrett's are going to put the McMahon's out of business but are they a bigger threat to Vince then people think?
Guest bob_barron Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 No- I don't think TNA has any real effect on WWE. TNA is still in business because Panda Energy Corp is pumping money into them. If Panda hadn't come- buh bye TNA
Guest Trivia247 Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 hell TNA comes on once a week and you have to pay for it each time. WWE comes on for free (per paying your cable bill) 5 times over the week.
Guest Memphis Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 Jeff & Jerry have both commented that they never set out to compete with WWE in any way and that they are content with their own national promotion (or global, it is shown here in Australia as well). Until someone with the right money and right vision come along, Vince will always be King. Scary thought....isn't it?
Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 That doesn't mean NWA can't slowly build into competition for WWE dollars. If they put on a kickass show every week they would slowly grow, eventually could pick up a national tv show, start touring, etc. Then they would be. Right now they are nothing but a place to go for a wrestler who gets let go by the WWE.
Guest BoboBrazil Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 TNA does 10,000-15,000 buys a week on average. Their most buys ever were 20,000 for the 4/30 show featuring the Jarrett/Raven match. WWE is considered doing horrible ppv business now and they are getting 300,000-400,000 ppv buys per ppv minimum.
Guest JMA Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 Until someone with the right money and right vision come along, Vince will always be King. Scary thought....isn't it? Yes. Very scary.
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 Right, Jarrett's would never put Vince out of business or probably even run head to head with Vince. However, in the past year the WWE PPV buy rates have dropped since TNA has debuted. Could people be buying the $10 TNA PPV's instead of once a month PPV's from WWE. I know some people from this board do that so other people must doing that as well. Yes, they can watch WWE on TV for free, but they can also pay $40 a month to watch NWA Wrestling instead of WWE's lame duck PPV's every month. I think the Jarrett's have put a small dent in the WWE.
Guest cabbageboy Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 The thing about this theory I have to wonder is that the NWA isn't really putting on vastly better stuff on a weekly basis than WWE. At least with WWE you sorta know what you'll get on the shows...with the NWA one week they have a hell driving show with two **** matches, then the next week have 2 hours of crappy matches with some long interviews thrown in. It's kinda like watching ECW in that regard.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 I can tell you for fact that TNA has cost the WWE one ppv buy per month.
Placebo Effect Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 Make that two. I pay for the TNA PPVs because I support them, then I use my cable box on WWE PPVs.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 I applaud your support for something you like... ... but even I would steal it if I could.
Guest Retro Rob Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 Even if every person that bought TNA did not buy WWE PPVs that would make 15,000 less buys. In the grand scheme of things15,000 is pretty much nothing.

In the grand scheme of things15,000 is pretty much nothing. 15,000 is per week right? That's 60,000 per month taking away from WWE PPV's. Not too shabby.

Those same 15,000-20,000 people are the ones buying their PPVs every week. There are not 60,000 DIFFERENT people tuning into to TNA within one month's time.
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 I don't think they are taking away any ppv buys from the wwe either but here is a interesting thought. If you spend $40 a month anyway on PPV wrestling, look at it this way. If the WWE PPV looks weak for the month and you don't wanna order it then there is a 3 hour ppv that you will miss. But then you decide to spend the same $40 on PPV anyway you could keep up with the NWA TNA product for a whole month, and have something to do on 4 seperate Wednesday's. So for $40 the wwe gives you 3 hours of wrestling. On the other hand NWA TNA gives you 8 hours for your $40.....you do the math......

Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 That's kindd of the point. Hit or miss you'll get four really good to great matches a month for 40 dollars. Say that about Badd Blood, or Judment Day, or Backlash, or No Way Out.
Guest PowerPB13 Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 I pay for NWA-TNA PPVs with the money I've saved by NOT buying WWE PPVs. I haven't paid for a WWE PPV in full since the Royal Rumble, and I haven't seen one at all since Wrestlemania(where I was fortunate enough to watch with three other people so I only had to pay ten bucks). I've personally decided not to buy another WWE PPV until some significant, far-reaching changes happen in the product and the company...and that's not likely to happen any time soon. -Patrick
Guest nikowwf Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 It doesn't cost them any PPV's. When WCW was super hot, and ECW was putting on good shows, the WWF actually got MORE buys. If the WWE has a good product, a good Wednesday night of wrestling will probably make people want to see the WWE PPV more. I think WWE's crappy product is killing NWA/TNA more than vice versa. If WWE was super hot, i think more people would be seeking out additional wrestling. Hardcore fans look for alternative wrestling when the shows suck. Most fans just look for an alternative, most likely not wrestling. niko
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 niko is dead on right about that. TNA has said on many occassions that they need WWE to pick up business if they have any chance of survival. TNA will never get a TV deal of any kind with RAW in the 3's. Never.
Guest Taz_mark Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 Plus the dish network doesn't carry NWA TNA ppvs.. Sadly
Guest Mad Dog Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 Yeah Dish Network is really annoying me in that regard. I'm going to have to get my cable modem company to send me a box so that I can order the PPVs on cable.
Guest nikowwf Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 i have, through miracle of nature and Time Warner Cable gotten the last 2 NWA for free! No piracy, it just is on for some reason. niko
Guest Mad Dog Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 Yeah that happens from time to time. Most of Columbus got one of the Starcades for free a few years ago.
