Question about LOTR The Two Towers

Recommended Posts

Guest cpac

When the dvd comes out in august is it going to be a two disk version or the 4 disk version. I want to buy it but I dont want some special 4 disk edition coming out christmas time like they did last year. If there is going to be some special 4 disk edition I am just going to wait a couple of more months to buy that.

Yeah according to amazon the 4 disc edition of The Two Towers will be out on November 18. It looks like it's going to be like the other 4 disc set, with a lot of production featurettes, photos, DVD-ROM, etc.

I heard they're doing pretty much the same thing as with FOTR.

Bust out a 2-disker for the people that need a Frodo fix NOW (aka my better half), then release the super-sized edition around the time ROTK comes out...

Mindless side-note: For anybody who's thinking of holding off on buying any of the movies in hopes that there is going to be a massive 12 disc SE, don't bother. New Line announced a while back that out of loyalty to the fans who will be buying the 2 disc and 4 disc sets that they won't be making one.

I was in South East Asia not too long ago and picked up a copy of Two Towers. It has the proper animated menus and is perfect quality. Cost me five bucks. No idea where it came from or how they managed to get an advanced copy of it. Not that I care. :headbang:

they'll make a 12 disc set. If not this time next summer, definitely in time for christmas.

You cant make me believe there won't be a huge Box Set of all 3 movies. It just screams "Triple Dip the geeks with a SUPER ULTRA BOX SET" next christmas.

Man, thats stupid IMO, a 12 disk set would be MASSIVE and it would just be absolutly STUPID. Now seriously imagine your whole Entertainment System being taken up by one DVD cleection...THINK ABOUT IT!!!!!! They should just bring the 4 Disk out in Aug. but whatever. As long as I can still get my dirty paws on it eventually than its cool with me....

Well, if they are doing things the same way they did them with Fellowship, then there will be no shared featues between the 2 disk and the 4 disk. Peter Jackson himself has gone so far as to say it is, in effect, a 6 disc special edition. 7 if you include the bonus disc in the Fellowship (National Geographic) collector's edition box (the one with the Argonath statues.) The Two Towers collector's edition will have a special disc all about Gollum.

For my money, I get them both. By the time they all come out, it will be a nice 21 disc Lord of the Rings collection.

With 18 discs containining the actual movies.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. The 2-discers that come out may have different special features than the 4-discer that comes out later, but I'll be damned if I'm stupid enough to buy a movie I know good and well is gonna come out again in a few months TWICE. That's not being tricked, deceived or double-dipped that just being plain plum dumb.

You buy the two discer one month and buy the four discer a few months later, you're still buying the same movie and if you ask me the special features on last year's 2-discer aren't even worth owning. It's not a 6-disc Special Edition if four of the discs contain the same damned material. It's you being dumb enough to believe that it's worth $20+ dollars to buy a movie with 10 minutes of features that another edition doesn't have. It's simly not worth that much to me. But then again, I'm not a pasty, pimply-faced geek who lives in my parents' basement so I'm bound to be the odd man out here.

As far as buying both goes, I think there is something to having the original theatrical cut. Now I am all for the Extended Editions, and I loved the EE of FotR, but I wanted the original version. Also, I am a huge fan of trailers, and the EE doews not have them, just the 2 disk. They also included the Sci-Fi channel special (which I liked) and another TV special that I thought was interesting. There's something like 3 or 4 hours of extras on the 2 disc release.

Besides, I have been waiting ever since I read LotR in High School to see these movies made the right way. I don't think $60 over two years for the "lesser" 2 disc releases is too much.

One more thing Jonsey, don't go insulting people you know nothing about. I also am not a "a pasty, pimply-faced geek who lives in my parents' basement" and I don't appreciate being labeled as such because I choose to buy a DVD you don't think is worthy.

The 2-Disk is mainly for those who just can't wait until November (and trust me, there are a lot), as well as for the idiots who want full screen.

In general I agree. And yes, there is some truth to the "can't wait until November" thing for me. But to be honest, there are advantages to owning both. It is pretty neat being able to go between the two editions to see little thigs that changed.

Jonsey: Don't be rude, man. I'm trying really hard to have a civil discussion here. Your apology above would have totally placated me except for the "*larfs*".

The Theatrical Cut DVD has all of the promotional documentaries that aired on TV and the trailers and such, as well as the Theatrical Cut of the film. The Extended Edition will have at least a good half hour of added scenes (and will probably correct the bad editing in the theatrical cut) as well as three more discs chock full of making of featurettes, interviews, and all sorts of goodies. It's worth it to buy both discs.
