Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2003 this will be a racial case (as with most celebrities), one major part of this case based on public opinion will be based upon the womans race. if the woman is white, most people will judge kobe as guilty. if she is any other race, they will side towards kobe. i know most of you posters don't want to believe this. but deep down, we live in an racist society. Don't want to believe it? I'm reminded of it eveyr day I live and breathe, dude. As much as I say that I am a human being and a man before I am anything else, there usually is some idiot, or some screwed-up news story that reminds me that I am a black man, and while things SHOULD be equal, they aren't. Not quite yet. I hope and pray that the race card is not played, by either the prosecution or the defense. That will pour gasoline on an already hotly burning fire. I remember the day of the rodney king police verdict, how brothers were stalking through the mall where I worked, angry and belligerent.... fortunately not too much happened that day or the days afterwards..... Kobe need to avoid that hot button, or this case is going to spiral out of control quickly.... not as badly as the OJ case, but badly enough. If Johnnie Cochran gets his mitts into this case, you can kiss a swiftly moving trial goodbye. EDIT: The reason why the media came out on Kobe's side from the get-go is because Kobe's off-the-court behavior has been very good. Guest Downhome Report post Posted July 19, 2003 I just want to say a few things about this. For one, I pray to God that Kobe didn't do anything in terms of rape. Since he first debuted, he's been a guy that kids could look up to, and many around the world have done so. He is obviously overflowing with talent, and he is/was on his way to becoming a living legend in pro basketball. If it turns out that he actually raped someone, especially if he was no drugs at the time, that says not only horrible things about Basketball, but professional sports as a whole. Like I said, I pray he's totally innocent. Well, other than cheating on his wife that is. Another really bad thing about this is that the media, as always, want to see blood and tears. They want a story to be told in this and they want to see him convicted. I'm not saying that all of them do, but I assure you that they all want the worst of the worst to come to the scene to play ball, they want this juicey and they want it intense. If he's innocent, I feel truly sorry for him. If he's guilty of rape, I hope they send him to prison for the rest of his natural life never to be released. It's how I feel about ANY rapist, of any age, doing so to any victom. If he's guilty, I will not feel sorry for the guy at all. As far as his adultery goes and his wife's forgiveness...everyone makes mistakes. But I'm sure that 2 months from now Kobe's accuser will be on 20/20 crying saying she did lie, that she was shunned and she never meant for it to go this far; that she was mad and upset at Kobe and she wasn't thinking, begging for forgiveness through crocodile tears. The American Justice system really needs to implement the "PSYCHO BITCH" statute or something, as I'm sure we've all dealt with one or two in our lifetimes. Jordan cheated on his wife and nobody looks at him differently, same situation here if he's not found guilty. I feel bad for athletes and other entertainers because some these groupies will be quick to yell rape to get money. They should videotape their sexual encounters to avoid this problem. Nothing short of her admitting to the DA that this was all a sham is going to get her any money at this particular point in time. We won't know if she files for a civil suit for awhile. Downhome, I disagree with your above statement that if Kobe is found guilty that it says bad things about basketball. Basketball has nothing to do with the case. It just so happens a basketball player is accused or sexual assault. The game of basketball didn't make Kobe do/not do it. The person who stands to make any money is Kobe's wife. If she stays, she lives the life of a superstar. If she divorces, she looks good trying to stick it out with Kobe during these tough times while Kobe looks like a big cheating dog. Anyways, it'd be easy to say this is just another girl wanting to get an easy payday, but I'm not so sure really. I'm completely indifferent toward Kobe, but the history of these types of cases leads me to believe he's innocent.
