HBK Praise after watching his match vs. Y2J on RAW

Recommended Posts

I just watched his match vs. Y2J on RAW. I can't believe how he took that running powerslam into the guardrail where his back rammed into the steel, but especially was shocked by the Singshot Corkscrew Plancha he hit and his SICK bump where he was backdropped out of the ring and onto the floor. Plus, not to mention the regular bumps he's taking onto his back - Northern Lights Suplexes, Suplexes, and even simple lariats. I remember reading a WOW Magazine interview he did where he said that if he did a Flying Leg Drop he'd probably break his back literally. Now, the guy is taking bumps with guys like Jericho, RVD, etc. I don't know how he's taking bumps like these without permanently injuring himself. Say what you want about his political power, but please don't criticize his in-ring aabilities. For him to be doing the shit he's doing in the ring at his age is really amazing and I don't know how many people realize that.

The fact that it was a great match and that he put beloved smarks guy Jericho over should is praise worthy enough.

I'd be more impressed if he did it more than roughly once every couple months.

He took some pretty sick bumps in the SummerSlam 02 match. I think his back is better now. Or atleast good enough to do that stuff.

he's said in an interview a few years ago that he can take shots to the back, etc., fine-- the pain comes when he does something that compresses the vertebrae.

I am sure his back is much better then he is letting on. Hell the announcers don't even make a point to mention his "bad back" anymore.

I'd be even MORE impressed if he jobbed without having two other guys interfere.

Very entertaining match, and he did the right thing by givng Jericho a much needed win. shawn has done nothing but impress the hell out of me since returning. Around Armaggeddon he began to wear, but he stepped back, and the few times he goes out there, he lights it up. I am glad to see him back and hope he finishes off this great run soon and calls it a career with a good comeback that DIDN'T tarnish his legacy. All political bullshit and name calling aside, he's performing very well and I have to give hi props for that.

I thought the match was pretty bleh and did not live up to the Wrestlemania match at all.

I HATED the interference, the match had no heat, an ill-timed commercial break, Shawn looked lethargic out there and the match was boring for a long time.

Retire Shawn

This wasn't Wrestlemania 19, and with the stupid interference and the dead crowd, I don't get the love for this match. But whatever.

I'm more annoyed that the match was just there to get Suckbag over (It failed)

No problems with anything but the Randy "Suckbag" Orton continued push, though.

Crowd barely reacts. Good on Shawn for doing the right thing (albeit 4 months too late and with two people interfering) but this match was SOOOO slow-paced and completely against the strengths of both guys. It would have worked better with all the same stuff worked into another 15-minute match rather than stretching it to 25 with commercials and interference and the “both guys are exhausted” portions. The Wrestlemania match was worlds better, which is a shame because I really wanted to like it, but it just never got off the ground. Take for example the finish even – when was Jericho even working over the back? Skipping Michaels kicking out of the RKO and having Jericho putting him directly in the Walls, where he passes out, would have worked within the psychology of the match (because he’d be so unconscious from the move that he couldn’t defend himself). The worst choice would have been Jericho getting the pin directly off the RKO, because that takes all the heat off Jericho and makes it about Orton, and he’s not over enough yet for that to be worthwhile. ***

That's what SK said and I pretty much agree with him.

I wanted to like the match but they gave me no reason to care

I don't see aside from Coach's statement how anyone can see this as ORTON pushed?

Orton's finish CLEARLY had no factor in the match...all he did was knock the proverbial wind out of Shawn...

Jericho won with the Walls...after 20 minutes of working on the back...

He probably can't do shit like this too often. He has to let his worn down back rest after a big bumping match before working in another.

A 25 minute match with good build, highspots, good pacing, and teased finishes. That all seems to equal a good match to me, and I loved it. Sure, it wasn't WMX9, but it was still good in its own right. Around ***1/2 I'd say.

What's not to like?

Damn AS.....you REEEEEEEEAAAAAALLY can't stand Randy Orton at all can you? Is it more because he's shoved down our throats even more than Brock was getting more TV time than just baout anyone? Or more because of his actual skill or lackthereof?

Orton is the one who weakened Shawn with the RKO. Coach called the victory 'tainted' and basically did nothing to put over Jericho.

So the WWE's line is that it was a tainted victory and Jericho needs help to beat Shawn

I didn't say it was better then WMX9...

WMX9 is my *personal* match of the year hands down...

It was just the best Raw Match of the year...

I remember really enjoying this Trish v. Victoria hardcore match a while back and there was a three-way with RVD/Kane v. Dudz v. Morley/Storm night after Mania.

It may be best RAW match of the year but I'll have to think about it

The Trish-Victoria match you mean was the Chicago Street Fight, correct?

Wasn't that 2002? It may have been early 2003, but seems like a while ago.

HBK finally put Jericho over and he did it in fashion by tapping out. No complaints from me. ^_^

I hate to say it, but Keith said exactly what I thought of the match.

No- I'm talking about a hardcore match they had. Trish debuted Matrix style.

I still say Flair/HHH from May was the MOTY for Raw.

Chicago Street Fight was in Feb of 2003.

I thought it was pretty good, but the annoyance of Coach and that stupid commerical in the middle of the match ruined it for me. Meh, they should've saved the rematch for a PPV...but too late now :(

It's no MOTYC, but still pretty good. I wish the crowd was more into it tho.

*** (a match like this would've been perfect for the Garden or any other place ala Budokan ;) )

Actually Coach said if I remember "Jericho won with the interference of two guys, not to take anything away from Jericho however"

Flair did how much interference in the match again?

They never said "Jericho wins thanks to Randy Orton"

The reasons I didn't like the match were because:

WHY would you put a submission on someone in the corner then have them fight to get in the middle of the ring?

Hebner left a chair in the ring for about 5 minutes.

Oh yeah let's complain some more about WM. That's productive. Jericho won. He got the win of their last match.

This coming from someone who reminds us all the time that yes, Brock did indeed, botch the SSP.

The Wrestlemania match caused me to not be interested in the match beforehand and caused the resulting match to fall flat.

I love the two big matches these guys have had. But commercial breaks killed the drama in the match tonight for me. Just when you're getting up for something they go to a Slamball commercial and you're out of the action for 3 minutes or so.
