How were Forest punished by that?

To clarify my position on Hillsborough. The whole thing with the Sun saying

The Truth; some fans picked pockets of victims; some fans urinated on the brave cops; some fans beat up PC giving kiss of life.
is fucking disgracefull and there's no evidence of that. There is evidence though of Liverpool fans running up and taunting the Forest fans, as I've talked to plenty of people I know who were there and they'll all said that happened.

AND clearly the police fucked up completely and should 99% of the blame.

But - if the Liverpool fans had turned up to the game on time then there wouldn't have been the problem of thousands wanting to get it just before 3pm. And this still happens today, as anyone who go to games will know - people still turn up at 3:10 or so and have to get past people to get to their seat. And again, of course people were drunk - it was a bloody football match.

And as I've said, the poor bastards that got killed and their famillies were not in any way imaginable at fault.

Forest, and others, were punished after Heysel as all English cliubs were banned from European competiton. So when were finishing 3rd and winning League Cups etc we weren't allowed in the UEFA Cup because of what Liverpool fans did.

I hope Tyldsley (sp?) shuts up about the Nou Camp now.

Never!

Again, I'm bias, but the ending to the United/Barcelona game was better than last night's, if only because no team should win a cup final on penalties. Ever. Never liked it, never will. The match itself was better than, sure, but the Nou Camp ending was one of the best in (European) cup final history.

Not to mention the United side being better than this Liverpool side, not finishing fifth in the Premiership and the fact we had more than two British players in the team.

Oh, come on now. Relax. There's no need to compare them at this point. That was one of the craziest high profile games ever.

Enjoy it. They don't come around that often.

Last night was better IMO because Liverpool literally came back from the dead. 3-0 down at half time to AC Milan is as dead as you can get without being in the morgue. It was about the underdog and never giving up. I love it when things like this happen in football because it just underlines how great the sport is. This was also a major FUCK YOU to Wenger and Abramovich.

Now granted Liverpool came 5th this season and fourth to qualify, but United came second to get into the Champions League when they won so United's prescence that season is as undeserving as Liverpool's because neither side were Champions of England. (Yes I know United won the title that season but that gains them qualification the next year). And as for the more British players argument, forget it, an Englishman lifted the trophy last night, not Peter Schmeical or Roy Keane in a suit.

Wow that makes me sound like a Xenophobic Liverpool fan. But I assure you I'm neither.

I thought you said earlier that Liverpool fans were murderers? Make your fucking mind up. You've gone from sounding like a complete and utter cunt to sounding just plain clueless.

Must have been a nice watch for all the Man Yoo fans last night. Won fuck all and having to watch that would have rubbed it in nicely.

I don't know why everyone has a problem with penalties. Ok it's not ideal but what else would you suggest?

Wow, thought I'd be banned by now ;)

I never said 'murder' or called them 'murderers'. Manslaughter, perhaps, but no one deliberatly killed anyone and I've never suggested that.

But are you seriously saying that there is no responsibility on a section of the Liverpool fans there that day for what happened? Yes the police fucked up, yes they should've had the larger terrace that the Forest fans were in, but had everyone turned up at a proper time, and if some hadn't been drunk then it all could've been avoided. If you really belive that it had nothing to do with some of the Liverpool fans there then you're the one who's clueless.

Anyway.

It's a joke they're not allowing Liverpool in next year. See, not only was the old European Cup style more exciting it was way simpler too :P

And as for replacing penalties how about... ooh, I don't know. Maybe the teams could play each other again? Say a week later perhaps. We could call it, oh I don't know... a 'replay'? ;)

So you're suggesting 50,000 Liverpool and Milan fans go home having not seen a winner and then have another 50,000 pay to go all the way out to Istanbul again the next week.

Stupid and totally unfeasible. It's the way it is for a reason.

But the thing with that is it could possibly go on forever. And for someone to score and then that's it - it's over seems somewhat unfair to me. At least with a shoot out unless you're the last taker there's at least a chance someone else will make up for your miss.

God no, but they're the facts.

Liverpool fans get pissed and kill a bunch of Italians - Forest punished.

Liverpool fans get pissed and kill a bunch of innocent Liverpool fans - Forest punished.

Decemberists:

You called it a 'fact' that they killed people. You're claiming that Liverpool fans alone were directly responsible for the deaths in that sentence yet you claim you've never even 'suggested' it. Did you forget you typed those words or something? You only bothered to offer a more rounded explanation and mention the police incompetance when somebody quite understandably took offence to the post.

You stated yourself a couple of times that being drunk and late is common in behaviour of all football fans. If that's true then surely it's obvious that the same proven factors of gross police incompetance and shocking stadium conditions (in Heysel's case) in the two games would have led to similar tragedy with any other English side with such large numbers following them. Of course drunkeness and late arrival (Hillsborough mostly) was a large contributory factor (I know i never said it wasn't btw) but they were just being normal football fans weren't they?

Firstly 'killed' isn't the same as 'murder'. If I'm working on a building site and drop a brick from the top of a building and it hits someone on the head and they die, I've definatly killed them, but not murdered them. In the same way, people pushing other people causing 96 to be crushed to death I believe have 'killed'.

I didn't bother fully explaining anything because I wasn't expecting any reaction to it, which may have been naieve but there you go.

Thing is, the gross police incompetance and shocking stadium conditions didn't make them charge at the Juve fans. It allowed them to and then lead to the wall collapsing, yes, but the wall wouldn't have fell if the Italians hadn't fled in terror from the charging Liverpool lot.

And yes they were behaving like a significant number of football fans but that still doesn't make them not responsible to an extent. And again, Heysel and Hillsborough both being Liverpool fans strikes me and being slightly odd, but I could well be wrong and it just be a whole coincidence.

I apologise for offence caused, I should never have brought the subject up in the first place.

No need to aplogise. It was probably just the way you worded that first post that made me reply really. I don't disagree with too much else you said to be honest.

At least we've learned from those events. We're one of the safest countries in Europe to watch football these days and hooliganism has been marginalised to a fair extent.

I went to a game in Spain a few years ago, Malaga vs someone, and it's amazing how different it is in terms of what they let into the ground etc. At Forest when you buy a bottle of coke you're not allowed to have the bottle top when you go to your seat but in Spain pretty much anythings let it.

I would not be at all surprised if something like Hillsborough or Heysel happens in Italy, especailly, or Spain in the near future. But, as horrible as it sounds, that might be the scare that's needed for them to sort out the power that the Ultras have over there.

By the way, have you heard about the time a few years ago at a UEFA conference all the delgates were talking about hooligans and how to deal with them, and the Italian one stood up and announced, "There is no hooligan problem in Italy" and everyone else in the room bust out laughing. Yet still nothing is done about it!

Best night of my life last night.

When that third goal went in...whoa. And Jerzy fucking Dudek I apologise for every criticism i've thrown your way.

The homecoming was pretty good today, apart from not being able to move an inch for a few hours.

Just look at all those people:

I remember watching a documentary about hooliganism the other year which focused on Lazio and Boca Juniors. The scene that sticks in my mind is the Lazio Ultra's visit to the training ground. The training came to an abrupt halt as soon as the players, coaches and officials became aware of their presence. Lazio had been on a crap run and it was obvious, crazy as it sounds, that they were at the mercy of this mob and had to appease them somehow 'or else'. Nesta, the club captain, finally emerges to play peacekeeper and avoid any serious trouble. Poor Nesta didn't have a choice on how long he was stood there because the Ultra's call the shots.

I haven't seen the goals, but my vide-printer says he was taken off after an hour.

2 goals in an hour on your England debut?

Tour farce or not, that's still a stat for you.

Both were pretty nice. Keller could maybe have done better with the freekick, but the 2nd was a good finish.

Only decent parts of the game really.

Kieran is a left winger, right? If so, he's got Giggs and Ronaldo for competition at United. He might as well stay with West Brom next season, because he won't get enough games at United to be England regular.
