Guest Ripper Report post Posted July 24, 2003 What I'm about to say may turn some heads: Even if Kobe did rape this girl, he deserves to be let go without any repercussions. Now, you're probably bemused by what I just said. Any person who commits a crime must face the penalty that accompanies it. Excluding murder, of course, national icons -- like Kobe Bryant -- must be preserved in the public eye. Kobe Bryant, to many children and adolescents alike, is an icon. Before this incident became public, he was reputedly a moralistic man who represented everything that is "right" in this world. If Kobe Bryant is convicted, many hearts will be broken, the NBA will be irreparably damaged and the number of role models who are virtuous in this world will be down to a miniscule number. In other words, Kobe Bryant's life means a lot more than the accuser's life. Kobe is an exceedingly talented basketball player; some may even argue he is the leader of the NBA. He is an object of reverence, and a model citizen; he impacts people's lives, and dare I say, the world in a positive way (at least before these allegations). Conversely, the accuser's life means nothing in the grand scheme of things; she is a virtual nobody and whether she lives or dies tomorrow, nobody outside of her core family will be genuinely affected. I'm not trying to be a callous, unfeeling person, here. Obviously, just because one doesn't enjoy the stature that a Kobe Bryant has, doesn't mean he or she should have fewer rights. Everyone, for the most part, deserves to be treated equally, but this must be treated as the exception. If this was Lamar Odom -- a man who is known for his marijuana use and crime record -- then it wouldn't matter if he was convicted. Someone like Lamar Odom or Allen Iverson doesn't change one's life for the better; they glorify drugs and violence. Kobe, on the other hand, was perceived as an anomaly because he seemed so seraphic. The way he dresses, the way he speaks, the morals he lives (lived by), his strong work ethic...all of these attributes -- or at least the purported impression -- were emulated by children who wanted to be like their hero, Kobe Bryant. Everyone is (was) a better person for wanting to be like Kobe Bryant. I know what retort this may be answered with: "Well, Kobe proved, perhaps, with this incident that he isn't the paragon of virtue that he was perceived to be. My rebuttal to that is this: in this society -- a society that exalts its celebrities -- all we have to look up to are images. We'll never be privy to the real life that a celebrity lives; all we have are fuzzy, purported images. When an image affects everyone in a positive way, it must be upheld, preserved, and defended at the cost of, perhaps, another life. Justice becomes immaterial when the 'greater good' is at stake. You have managed to type the most ignorant statement that I have ever seen in my life. How in the fuck can anyone have the ability to write and still be dumb enough to type shit like that. Fuck the Kobe Bryant issue. The stupidity of that half a page of vomit inducing bullshit trancends whatever topic you were trying to relate it to. I am in awe, actually. I now have to wonder, how long did it take cousin Pa to stop fucking your auntie Ma's ear and say "Hey! Theres a hole down there two...what happens if I put my thingy in there". Only people this doltish could be responsible for a child that is so damn stupid. Did they drop you on your head twice daily after feeding you paint chips? What the fuck would make a person such a half-wit? Fuck you for every rape victim in the world. Fuck you for every woman and every man that has the smallest bit of common sense in them that actually have to share the same species with you. I have read your dumbass statements in every thread and each day just knew that you either A: We not serious or B: Concieved under circumstances that are illegal in most states. I am leaning towards B. If it were you mother or sister that got raped by a celebrity would you tell them "Well, sorry but his life means more...you'll get over it."? I shouldn't ask that, because you are probably still really pissed at them for telling you fucking the dog was a no-no. That post is so incredibly insulting that I want to print it out just to give to Jerry, the homeless guy that has shouting matches with his bleach bottle everyday outside the train station just to prove that A: He isn't the most insane person I have ever heard from and B: His bleach bottle might say dumb stuff to him, but not as dumb as this. I pray to christ that you make a statement like this in the presense of someone that is willing to do society a favor and castrate you on spot. Because it is my deepest horrors to know that you might get some family member drunk, procreate and my children will be posting on a message board one day and be subjected to something twice as idiotic as that. Of course anything like "doggie von smelly rose poop my pants" would still be a more intelligent post.
The Dames 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2003 That probably was the most ignorant thing I've ever read here. GameCop really is mentally and socially flawed. Dames
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 24, 2003 Allow me to copy My rebuttal to his dumbness... All right...I understand I am not the greatest person when it comes to grammer or spelling but can we ALL agree that Game Cop is the single most outstanding degree of dumb this board has ever encountered? His "Theory" is so fucking outlandish that it takes a F.B.I/C.I.A field team to disect the overt layers of Mindless and idiotic ramblings set in the guise of an intelligent thought. The mere notion of suggesting that an potential Rapist shouldn't be locked behind bars because of his formerally and now tarnished image prior to his/her conviction should over ride the fact he commited a crime of hideous nature. A crime that some consider more devasating then Murder itself. Kobe's Life means More then "Kate Faber"'s life is simply the most demented logic that I've seen coming out of this case. Yes, Kobe had a image that was great but to even suggest that we ought to perserve that image just because we might scare the children is such an outlandish and dense arguement that I've ever seen. Game Cop, The image of our role models are always going to be questioned, be it that role be an Famous and Talented Basketball Player or A 8th grade English teacher. To Suggest that if it were another Performer of the NBA was in this case...Then it would be all right to imprison him just because of past history when the fact is...It was KOBE BRYANT that was accused of this vicious and dispicable crime and that it's perfectly ok to let him walk. Why should Kobe Bryant's Image be perserved? If he is an Rapist, then that Image is SHATTERED forever. Game Cop, I hope you are pleased and honored with yourself for making the greatest example of imbecility that could ever be made.
Guest Retro Rob Report post Posted July 24, 2003 Hopefully this goes better than the last flame attempt... *Reserves seat in case Gamecop ever shows up.*
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 24, 2003 Game Cop refuses to back himself up because he knows he is a retard and can't handle the fact that is an incredibly idiotic fucking cum stain on the face of this board.
Guest caboose Report post Posted July 24, 2003 See this is why the 'Jimmy Beard Precedent' of banning posters for being completely and utterly stupid should be followed. BAN GAMECOP NOW! Not because he trolls and not because he is a gimmick, but because he is one of the worst posters EVER.
Guest Ripper Report post Posted July 24, 2003 I don't care if he responds or not. But after knowing rape victims and speaking with them, it is shit like this that will make mild mannered Ripper want to just beat the ever loving shit out of someone.

Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 24, 2003 I totally agree with you Ripper... I have friends and family reletives that were raped so I can understand the reality of the situation. I don't know if Game Cop can even comperhende the sickness that Rape is. That idiot laced tirade he made indicates he treats RAPE like it was equal to possesion. He tried to say that Lamar Odom whom was charged with Possesion and A.I whom was cleared of any charges of Assault last summer deserved to be in prison then a FUCKING GOD DAMN RAPIST. Dames...Look I know you might not have a case to ban this cum stain but please...You should make a exception because hell A lot of us here know the horrors of Rape in some sense... What he said was a slap in the face to all of us. His comments were not something that should be said in a Public Fourm.

Guest Fook_Hing_Ho Report post Posted July 24, 2003 5. Flaming is allowed in No Holds Barred and is discouraged everywhere else. If you have a problem with someone, take it to NHB. Depending on mod’s discretion, flaming outside of NHB can be subject to a one-time warning. Absolutely TASTELESS comments are subject to ban via mod’s discretion regardless of the forum. Keep in mind, though, that a stranger calling you a name on the internet is just that: a stranger calling you a name on the internet. It's really not that important in the grand scheme of the forums. Many problems with "flaming" can be overcome by simply ignoring the other party. I think that saying it's all right for Kobe Bryant to rape innocent women with no repercussion just because he's a popular basketball player is pretty damn close to absolutely tasteless... Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 24, 2003 It's Settled. I can't fathom a fucking excuse for that bastard...
Guest wrestlingbs Report post Posted July 24, 2003 I think he posted this just to get a reaction. That or he's an ignorant moron. Oh, and I'm not shallow enough to base my entire life around the image of famous people. If Kobe's a rapist, fuck him.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 24, 2003 Yes He did do that for a Reaction... Look at the first line. That clearly shows he was doing it for the purpose of reaction and his statements are grounds to get rid of him. Whatever...If Dames doesn't want to get rid o the guy because of his convictions to the rule...I understand.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 24, 2003 Well...Dames I see your lurking around... What's it going be?
The Dames 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2003 Guys...this has bothered me for quite some time, so let me address this quickly. In situations like this, when it's up to a moderator or admins discretion, it takes a moment to fully comprehend and absorb what is said in its full context before issuing a ruling or a banning or whatever. Keep in mind that I'm also at work and am not JUST on the board, reading everyone's comments as they happen. When people call out for a ban and throw my rules back at me, especially when it's just, it makes me come across as if I'm pandering to the general consensus. How many people reading this will then think to themselves, "Dames only banned GameCop because everyone told him to"? THAT is what bothers the shit out of me. The truth is, GameCop IS an idiot and he does merit banning for such a statement. I've known rape victims as well and this is a subject that is dear to me because of certain situations in my life. To say and believe something like that is simply so...STUPID that it actually breaks two rules. So, goodbye GameCop, have a nice life. If someone you hold dear to you is ever raped, I hope you're not the shoulder they decide to lean on or you might drive them into serious psychological trauma, moron. Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 24, 2003 Your Good Man Dames. Sorry If I seemed pushy. It just things like that get under my skin.
The Dames 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2003 It's not just you. This happens every time someone isn't in a RUSH to ban. Sometimes you have to take a step back and really think about things first, regardless as to how cut and dry they may seem. Dames
Guest Fook_Hing_Ho Report post Posted July 24, 2003 As for quoting the rules, I think it's done to show why we think someone should be banned, not to push you to live up to your word. Nothing more, nothing less. At least that's why I did it.
The Dames 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2003 I'm not saying that what you did was wrong, simply irksome. In situations like this, I tend to re-read the rules to clarify what course of action to take, which I did before you even posted that. I'm just asking you guys to put yourselves in my shoes. How would you feel if you had a ton of people saying "Ban him, ban him Dames!"? It almost becomes a situation where you're balancing what's right and just against what the general public wants. Dames
Guest caboose Report post Posted July 24, 2003 Good call Dames. I know I would have rushed to ban him. You however took your time and made a calm informed decision.

Guest Fook_Hing_Ho Report post Posted July 24, 2003 Ditto It is probably a good thing that you actually think these situations out and weigh both sides. I mean, we don't want you getting ban-happy and going SK on us or anything...

The Dames 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2003 What's toughest for me is remembering how I can relate to the situations that trigger my ire. Part of me wants to post it, but it's something quite personal and I don't want it to seem like I want the attention...as I've been accused of doing in the past.
