Guest HBK16 Report post Posted July 25, 2003 If anyone really noticed I have been posting here a lot less recently. But Im not one of those posters where he is gone for 3 days and people post threads about their whereabouts. Anyways, I come here today to ask what you do when in depression. I have been through a lot of shit this past month and I cant take anymore. I have the same occuring dream where I die in the same spot everytime. And I drive through there almost ever other day. I mean I have this dream maybe 3 times a week. Everyone is pissed off at me and everyone is pissing me off to the point where I cant even talk to anyone without making someone mad or making me mad. I cant sleep again. I went 3 and a half days without sleep last week and only slept a few hours this week. I get in my car when I dont even have anywhere to go to and drive. Ok I will stop. I dont wanna bore you with all my problems. So Im just kind of stuck on what to do here. Doctor? Pills?
Guest Memphis Report post Posted July 25, 2003 Sounds pretty bad, man. Remember, dreams are something YOU create therefore control. Don't let your dreams and imagination over-power you. Your mind conjures those nightmares up, therefore tell yourself before you sleep that you are in control and you don't want to dream about death anymore. Sounds silly, I know, but this has worked for me in the past. I would say the majority of these problems, the dreams in particular, are stemming from real life issues, such as depression or low self-esteem. If you don't mind me asking, what in particular is wrong with your life? Is someone making you feel as though your nothing? Doctors and pills are always an option, yes, but I would only use that as a last resort. These things often start out very, very simple and somehow escalate into these mindblowingly huge problems that you have no idea how to control. Don't try and fix the big problem, just try and fix what caused it in the first place. I'm hardly one for giving advice, so if it is as serious as you're making out let me know, there are a couple of really good free sites around that will email you support and advice without requiring you to give a name. Hang in there. M
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted July 25, 2003 Well, I figure with depression, there's one of two options. Get over it or kill yourself. Don't look at it as trying to beat something. Just realize that it's beat. When you take that bus, you get there.
Adam 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2003 Nightmares are caused by an occuring problem, an outlining problem, that you have. The only way to erase them is to find the problem, and either get over it, or fix it. As for depression, been there man, all the fuckin time. I'm completely out of my mind sometimes, and it takes a lot to get out of that rut. Good luck man, talk to someone. Thats the best thing to do.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted July 25, 2003 Here's the acid test. Listen to Life of Agony's River Runs Red, and Type O Negative's Slow Deep and Hard back to back. If you're still alive, you'll get over it.
Guest Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Report post Posted July 25, 2003 I would more likely prescribe RRR followed by Anathema's Judgement cd. You're better off than a lot of people about this shit. At least you have the wherewithall to express your discomfort...albeit I think you should be expressing them to more qualified people
Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted July 25, 2003 If you think that you have a legitimate disorder, go see a doctor. They'll most likely prescribe you something, but you don't even really have to get the script filled. Just talking to someone that knows about imbalances and things like that helps, and once they diagnose what might be causing you to feel like shit, you begin to feel better. Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted July 25, 2003 Whenever I get depressed, I get high and watch Faces of Death. Although if you're paranoid about dying, that's probably the last thing you should do.

Guest Miss Independant Report post Posted July 25, 2003 Depression really is terrible and I'm always sorry to hear that anyone is suffering from it. I've been there and I've got to tell you, while medications do help for some people, for others it can be a very bad descision, so whatever you do, be careful. Finding help isn't always the easiest thing to do, especially if you're someone who's stubborn, like I was and didn't want to talk to anyone about what was wrong, REALLY wrong with me. But honestly, you need to talk about it (the dreams, your feelings about them, what you think may be the source of them, feelings of isolation, ect.) with someone, or even just to sit by yourself and think things over carefully. Write down exactly what happens in your dream as soon as you wake up, there are things that you forget as the day goes on that you're only aware of right after you wake up. Try to distance yourself from any pain or negativity. DO NOT listen to depressing music, that NEVER helps. Every moment you don't feel terrible is a treasure and adding to the pain in any little way is a bad, bad idea. Go outside and sit in the sun, run around the house in your underwear, watch silly movies, read your favorite book, whatever, just don't sit around letting things get worse. When you're depressed, your mind is your own worst enemy and being idle, for me anyway, just left me thinking over and over about what was wrong and getting deeper and deeper into depression. It's one thing to search for what's wrong with you, and another to dwell on it. The smartest thing to do would be to talk it out with supporting friends and family and think of all the little things that make life really worth living. You will get over it all in time, I promise. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted July 25, 2003 Eh, I totally disagree with everything she just said. The best way to get over a mental problem like that is to defeat it yourself. I'll almost guarantee that you don't have a chemical imbalance, otherwise you wouldn't be so conscious of it, posting here. Depressing music ALWAYS helps, especially if it's something you can relate to. With any luck, you might even get inspired. Literally, slapping yourself in the face (or getting smacked) with a "Get over it." helps more than anything.
Guest The Notorious CRD Report post Posted July 25, 2003 Get some help. Seriously. By getting help you aren't admitting defeat and it doesn't make you less of a man. The macho "I can deal with things on my own" approach doesn't work for everyone. Pills may not be the answer, but talking to someone about what's bothering you could help. Guest Miss Independant Report post Posted July 25, 2003 Machismo isn't the cure to everything, Agent. Just because one thing works for one person does not mean it is a cure all for everyone. I was stubborn and dumb and took the "I'll take care of it all by myself" road and it took me twice as long to get over my problems and caused major problems with me physically and mentally in the long run. Maybe that'll work for him, maybe not, but just because you disagree with someones method does not mean it isn't valid. I just know, personally, what wrong ways I went and what I should've done to save myself a hell of a lot of pain. But again, maybe your method will work. Everyone's mind is, obviously, highly individualized. Don't cha know.
Guest Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Report post Posted July 26, 2003 Has nothing to do with machismo Miss. I'm relatively sure he is talking about creating a mindset to follow that this negative shit can't knock you down. In fact, after 17 years of depression with little to no help from pills and doctors, I said fuck it and I changed. It wasn't easy at first, but now I'm more stable than I've ever been and in fact I'm now using the same mindset to better myself physically. You've just gotta belong to it
Guest JaKyL25 Report post Posted July 26, 2003 Short-term help--Watch something funny. Go rent a comedy you love, or tune in to a classic Simpsons episode, or something. Long-term help--Figure out what's bothering you, and either go about fixing it, or else finding something else to live for. (Note that I MAY not be the best person to listen to, seeing as how I've attempted suicide 4 times, as recently as the end of May )
Guest ViciousFish Report post Posted July 26, 2003 When I get depressed I tattoo or pierce something which always works but unless you enjoy that kinda thing I wouldn't suggest it.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted July 26, 2003 Go to you doctor and ask for some pills. There are plenty of pills to choose from.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted July 26, 2003 Machismo isn't the cure to everything, Agent. Nope, but confronting your problems, self reliance, dedication, and effort are. Personally, I see depression as a symptom for an issue with one of those things, not just feelin' blue. A chemical disorder is completely different though. After all, emotions are just chemical reactions.
Guest Lil Naitch Report post Posted July 26, 2003 What do I do when I'm depressed? Call my friends and talk. Or.... Punch a hole in a door or two. Although I am working on that... And hey, I was so depresed one night that I made my last will and testement, and I divied up all my stuff to my friends, but then I talked to my best bus and I was ok again. So don't worry man, that too will pass.

Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 27, 2003 I second the R.R.R suggestion... I am a happy guy but If I listen to it WHOLE (and I do quite often) I really get a feeling of happiness thanking god it's not *that* bad as Caputo or the character has it. Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 27, 2003 However let me in on my expirence with Depression. I Suffered a deep long battle with depression...I took pills for it and it didn't help. I made myself an outcast and wouldn't speak to anyone except a select few. What it takes is an radical re-birth in your self...create the aftermath of your former life. It sounds weird but if you open your mind and realease the hate from within...it sends you to a place of serenity.
Guest HBK16 Report post Posted July 27, 2003 Thanks for all the help guys. I have been out and about doing thins that are helping a lot. Something that really helped was going to california for a few days and going to Six Flags and talking to my girlfriend's mom who is very in touch with God. That helped a lot. I am feeling a lot better than what I was before. I can atleast sleep again. The nightmares are there still. Im not drowing myself in alcohol either so that I think is helping too in a way. Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 27, 2003 Religion won't save you from depression. You need to find that Inner power inside the internal Soul that lies within you
Guest Memphis Report post Posted July 27, 2003 Religion won't save you from depression. You need to find that Inner power inside the internal Soul that lies within you Yes it will. Religion is all in the mind-set. Ever spoken to an exceptionally religious person? I've found that they have been told about their religion and its benefits their entire life, therefore are able to draw power and strength from it to over-come life obstacles. Personally, I believe it is much more healthy to go with your method, Choke, and use your own personal power that is inside of you waiting to be found. However, if religion can be 'used' in the same context, whether it actually be there or not, then all the power to the user. M
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 27, 2003 I agree with your ideals there...I was just saying that leading yourself into a Religon won't save yourself from your depression but merely mask it. It's more imperitive that you save yourself within yourself in the find yourself sense rather then change or alter your religionous foundation
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted July 27, 2003 Religion is a placebo. The beans have already been spilled, so now it won't work.
