FRANK C. CALAWAY, 76, was born in Temple, Oklahoma on November 16, 1926 and passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 22, 2003. Frank served with the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He retired from the Houston Post in 1991 after 38 years of dedicated service. He is survived by his beautiful wife of 56 years, Catherine; five sons and their wives, David and Eleanor, Michael and Hideko, Paul and Ana, Tim and Diane, and Mark and Sara; brother, Howard; sisters, Elizabeth McPherson and Colleen Pennington; fourteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren and numerous friends. The family will receive friends on Thursday July 24, 2003 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Boulevard. The funeral service will be Friday July 25, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Heights Funeral Home with Rev. Donald McPherson officiating. Interment will follow in Brookside Memorial Park. The family would like to thank all of the close friends, doctors, and nurses who have provided endless support in our greatest time of need. Frank, you will be dearly missed and fondly remembered. God bless you. We know you are looking down on us with a smile.

Despite Smark opinion, I'm sure Taker sees himself as professional and committed to his occupation. While Vince would be understanding if Mark chose not to wrestle, I honestly can't see Taker dropping out of a Pay-Per View match, as I'm sure his father would of wanted him to do it.

Hell look at it this way. Mark's Father whom was military would continue to get the job done first before resting.

 

Mark might want to get the PPV over with seeings how that is a obiligation too the company, even though he could get out of it with no one even bitching about it. But to him he just needs to get the job done. I doubt anyone would care if he just phoned in his match vs Cena. Though SK of course would Taker Hate as usual.

 

Do see him taking the extended time off after the PPV to tend to the family matters.

Whether or not you like or respect the Taker, you should at least respect a veteran, not to mention a WWII veteran. I honor and respect everyone who fights to try and make this world a better place. The fact that there is a connection to this board by way of having a wrestler son gives us the further right to offer condolences on this board. So, whether or not you are a fan of Taker, and whether or not he will read this board, you can still post condolences as a sign of respect for a serviceman. (Hell, Arafat even attended the funeral of and offered condolences to King Hussein of Jordan, one of Arafat's enemies.)

 

Edit note: This does not mean you HAVE to post in order to show your respect. It's simply a personal insight. I offered no condolences to the King of Jordan, even though I went to school with two of his kids.

EDIT: Trivia posted his response before I could.

 

Not to take advantage over someone passing, but this could increase the likelihood of Cena going over Taker at the PPV. Then Taker could have some time off to take care of the personal matters, rather than have him go over and then not be able to capitalize.

I think that Trivia's post was in regards to hunger4unger's post about the "crap" over offering condolescenes, not something that you said, Jester.

Yep, he said so, I apologized. So I be moving on.

 

To get back on topic, I think that Taker should take time off. Not because of any political or Taker-hate BS. His father only gets one funeral. Not going is something he may regret later.

 

If this was a Wrestlemania where he was winning the belt for the first time, marking a huge career milestone, I could see missing the funeral. But Taker doesn't really have anything major going on at Vengeance. They can postpone the Cena feud, and rebuild any heat they lose. Maybe even build it up better.

 

Just my thoughts, anyway.

Generally when someone passes away in one of the wrestler's families they take a few days off. By the time Sunday comes it would have been 5 days and the funeral already took place on Friday. I think I read about Taker not being at the tapings lately to attend to a sick relative, so maybe this was one of those times when death is a welcomed exit.

If he didn't show up it'd be the perfect opportunity to allow Cena to come out on the PPV and rip into Taker for (kayfabe here) being to scared to fight him.

Taker seems, to me, to be the kind of guy who would come back from this and put on (or try to put on) a **** match, just to prove to his dad he could do it. There's no way he'd miss Vengeance, for all the reasons listed above, and honestly I can't see why he'd take more than a show off afterwards. That may just be ignorance on my part, though.
