Worst supergroup?

Out of all the super groups ever assembled most have been mediocre and dissapointments, but some have sucked the meat missle. I think the worst supergroup of all time is Damn Yankees featuring Tommy Shaw of Styx, Ted Nugent, the singer of Night Ranger and some other guy. They totally wasted the Nuge and were just another shitty generic pop band.

What about that band that had Scott Weiland of STP and some members of GNR that did a song for the Hulk soundtrack.

Audioslave is just awful.

I've only heard one song and it's not as bad as "High Enough"(Damn Yankees signature song). And I for one think Audioslave is decent. A major dissapointment? Maybe but not the worst supergroup by far.

I like Audioslaves two videos but prefer "Like a Stone" better than "Coochise".

Was never a fan of the Wu-Tang as the rap supergroup.

I suppose Superjoint Ritual could be called a "metal supergroup"...and they're god awful.

Audioslave is just awful.

I saw them at Lollapalooza this past Tues, and they were incredibly horrible. The crowd was dead. Cornell tried sucking up to the NJ crowd by playing a Bruce Springsteen song...he got booed. The only song thatgot the crowd excited was their cover of the White Stripes' "7 Yr Army"...then the crowd died after they played their next song.

I don't find them to be that bad. They're no Down, but they're good for what they are.

They were never really a supergroup. They kind of got supergroup status after they started putting out solo albums.

I'm unsure if they meet "supergroup" status, but Oysterhead (w/ Les Claypool, Stuart Copeland and Trey Anastacio) was amazingly bad for a band with three really, really talented musicians. Just utter crap in musical form.

Wow...I like both Audioslave AND Oysterhead...Oysterhead's better than Phish, anyways.

I burned a bunch of the Oysterhead songs after they played that show in N.O. and didn't dislike them, but then made the mistake of seeing them when they played in Lowell. I was so bored, it wasn't even funny.

I was pretty depressed, I'm a former-Phish fan and a former-Primus fan, and still consider the Police to be a really good band. The three just didn't click live, at least for me.

I don't like Audioslave. But then again I wasn't big on Sound Garden and I hate Rage

I don't really think Oysterhead are that bad. True, the album is rather boring, but it's not outright bad, like Audioslave.

Blind Faith was an awful supergroup. Clapton's next attempt, Derek and the Dominoes, worked out much better.

Ehh, I thought that Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs was a terrible album, and the Dominos were much worse than Blind Faith. Although I'll grant that neither one was that good.

All bias aside, Oysterhead is really goddamn good. Their album reminds me a lot of Antipop, only mellower. I utterly despise Phish, but Anastasio does some really good, really catchy riffs on the album that vary from his usual meandering jam garbage that starts nowhere and goes nowhere. It doesn't knock me out of my seat or anything, but it's a damn good little rock album.

As far as other supergroups go, the worst one I can think of offhand is Temple Of the Dog. "Hunger Strike" is one of the most annoying, shittiest singles of the 90's.

The best one is easily Down, featuring various swamp metal creatures and Phil Anselmo doing a Sabbath-esque take on things. The first album is, in my book, the best metal cd of its decade. Put it in, hit play, and it absolutely kicks ass from beginning to end. Great, interesting metal riffs that don't go overboard into technicality, or sink to aimless chugging, excellent vocals to match the music, with great lyrics, fantastic solos, and a thundering rhythm section, just like early Black Sabbath. Nola is an absolute masterpiece that literally anyone with an interest in hard rock or metal needs to have. I should also mention the fantastic slow songs on the second half of the cd, ending on one of the coolest grooves to end any cd.

Down II, while still solid, is quite different from the first, and reminds more of Deep Purple than the first one does. It's a good little album, but it's evident they didn't even attempt to top the first cd, but to try to do so is madness.

Temple of the Dog was just Pearl Jam featuring Chris Cornell.

and yes...Damn Yankees is a horrible colabiration since Blind Faith

Remember when those two guys teamed up with the former guitarist of Exodus and the former bass player of Suicidal Tendencies and put out that mediocre album?

Is Infectious Grooves a supergroup? Or just considered a side project by the Suicidal Tendencies?

The Firm sort of sucked considering it featured the kick assness of Paul Rodgers and Jimmy Page yet only managed to put out one sucky album (Although Radioactive is catchy)

Does Bad Company count as a supergroup? Because they blew, too.

And I agree about Down. Nola is good shit.

Yes and don't knock Bad Co. god dammit! They're the original supergroup

Jimmy Page's stint with the Black Crows wasn't bad but they should have done more stuff together instead of just performing Led Zeppelin covers live.

EDIT: Come to think of it Page or Plant hasn't done anything really good since Zeppelin broke up, everything they do ranges from crappola to good.

Let me jump on the "Audioslave sucks" wagon.

To clarify, Bad Company consisted of Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke of Free, Boz Burrel of King Crimson and Mick Ralphs of Mott the Hoople. I actually like Bad Company and you could make a case for them as the most succesful super group of all time.

The Fuck They DIDN'T!

Company, always on the run

Destiny, with a rising sun

I was born, six gun in my hand

Behind a gun, we make our final stand

That's why they call me...

Bad Company

and I won't deny it

Bad, bad company

Til the day I die
