I'm so pleased by how well Pirates is doing. Huzzah for sequel inevitability!

Might as well add Tomb Raider 2 to the list of Sequels that have bombed or not surpass the original.

From BoxOfficeMojo:

Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life

Production Budget: $95 million

Est. Marketing Costs: $30 million

$21.7 Million opening weekend ? I know this isn't what Paramount and most expected. I doubt this even gets to $100 Million. 21.7 isn't a big number for a movie with this hype / cost, it should fade away fairly quick in the upcoming weeks.

Maybe the general public saw Chalies Angles 2 and decided that was the only T&A action movie they needed to see this summer.

For a PG-13 movie, I thought Tomb Raider would do better. But either way I'm not going to lose much sleep over this tonight...

Damn, I was hoping Seabiscuit would have done worse than that.

I'm thinking Seabiscuit will get that revivial push come December if the studio decides to give it a Oscar push...

No, I think people were seriously turned off by the first Tomb Raider and decided that they'd never spend money to see another live action version of it. That's why I didn't watch it or have any desire to.

I'm surprised that Bad Boys had such a significant drop. I figured if any of the big blockbusters this summer, that one would have had the longest legs.

Yeah but man Bad Boys 2 was just slaughtered by critics. I mean it got a BOMB in my local paper, major critics tore it apart, etc. It's hard to overcome that kind of harsh word of mouth.

I'm glad to see Tomb Raider basically tank. I thought the first movie was crap, and it is time Hollywood learned that not every cheesy actioner that makes money deserves or needs a sequel.

I did not enjoy Bad Boys 2 as much as I enjoyed LXG. Bad Boys 2 was just PG 13 gross humor with alot of explosions and car chases that I have seen in every other Bay/Bruckheimer movie. The 1st movie was so much better.

Spy Kids 3D looked like ass. I know there isn't much for kids right now...but it looked awful

I saw 28 Days Later again for the new ending. I didnt see any new movies. None of the 3 new releases interested me at all. I was going to go see Bad Boys 2 but heard terrible things about it. I will just wait to see it with my bro and get in for free.

if the studio thought 'seabiscuit' would be a serious oscar contender, they would've released in in the fall with all the other oscar contenders.

Pirates is STILL going strong, and I'm damn proud. It should reach 200 million easy, and a sequel is fairly certain. And Johnny Depp finally has a hit on his hands.

As for Bad Boys, I'm GLAD it dropped so much. That piece of shit doesn't even deserve to stink up the theaters.

I am a bit surprised about TR, though. I would have thought it came in at least 2nd.

Just a question...

How many of you actually saw Bad Boys II ?

I hate when talk shit about a movie that they haven't seen.

Most of ya'll knew that Bad Boys II was going to be another Michael Bay directed, big-budget, Guns, explosions, etc...

What the hell do you go in expecting ? Lord Of The Rings ?

Anyway, don't mind me.

I'll post my Top 5 prediction later.

Is it true that Seabiscuit made the most money per screening of the top movies this weekend?

A-FUCKING-MEN!

I actually covered that in my review of the movie.

If you want drama and all that miscellaneous other BS, then go rent fucking Heat or something.

As I forgot to mention before, I loved Bad Boys II, seen it 3 times. I didn't go into to it expecting it to be Titanic, I was expecting just what it was suppose to be.

Next...

BAD BOYS II

Total as of Jul. 27, 2003: $88,452,000 (Estimate)

Production Budget: $130 million

Marketing Costs: $40 million

When you think about it, out of all the bullshit Sequels that have been released this summer, this is the 3rd most successful behind X:2 and The Matrix: Reloaded.

1. I think it will make back it's budget. The final U.S. numbers should be good, I know it will hit big overseas, and DVD sales will be high.

2. It has already out-grossed the original.

Some of you don't seem to be too educated on the art of the box office.

Some of you are saying "Wow BB2 dropped that much" and "I'm glad it dropped that much".

I hate to tell you guys, but BB2 actually had a great weekend. With a less than 55% drop off, it so far has better legs than most of the blockbusters this summer. It's second week drop off is less than T3, Matrix, Hulk, Charlies Angels, 2 Fast. Than when you consider it's rated R, you come to the conclusion that holy shit this movie is doing very good and the fact that people are saying is overly violent is just helping it's word of mouth. It's national gross is just the tip of iceberg as it will more than make it's money back with international revenue and dvd sales.

I'm sorry some of you wasted time having a conversation on how much you hate BB2 and how it's dropoff was so huge. In all honesty, you were wrong, and the basis of your conversations were dumb. It's like saying "Titanic did well, but it probably could of done better". BB2 is more than meeting the expectations that were set for it. Sorry to some of you haters, you were misinformed.

You have just been terminated.

Thank you, Sir.

You've proved my point.

Need I say more ?

I saw it.

A friend of mine who is a Will Smith fan dragged me to it. I went along.

I was disappointed in it even going in with extremely low expectations.

Needless to say, my friend owes me one.
