Former wrestler Maxx Payne suing Rockstar

Recommended Posts

Guest MarvinisaLunatic
Numerous news sources were reporting yesterday that former WCW wrestler Darryl "Maxx Payne" Peterson has filed a $10 million lawsuit against Rockstar Games Inc.  Rockstar developed the very successful Max Payne videogame and Peterson is claiming that it is copied off of the character that he created for his wrestling persona.  For those who don't remember him, Payne was a mid card about a decade ago for WCW.  Thanks to Jesse Morris, Ellyn Fox, Mark Zidel and TC Kirkham for sending that along.

Hmm..I don't think so. Plus he was using 2 X's instead of 1.

Heh, I was wondering when this was going to happen. Too bad Man Mountain Rock was a little slow on the uptake.

This is like that one woman that sued the game Space Channel 5 for the "Ulala" character about 3 years after it was released.

Guess he was just stoked by the whole SPike Lee situation.

Because, in all fairness, if a jackass like SPike Lee can get a case as far as he did because a TV station used his first name, then a jackass like Maxx can sue a games company for using his stage name. Sure, it's a couple years late, but they are working on a sequel, and sure, they only spelt it with one "x". BUt think about it - Spike Lee's case was even more tenuous than that; it's not like TNN were even changing their name to "Spike Le TV". So if he can do it, more power to the grappler.

Copied off the character? Please. Maxx Payne the wrestler was a fat death metal goth who wore eyeliner and black leotards w/skulls on them. Last time I checked, the Max Payne in the game was NOTHING like that. What a fat waste of fucking space this guy is...

Not really, because that chick had a more substantial case.

This is just goofy. I personally never cared for the game, and I thought the title absolutely sucked since it was so cliched and unoriginal.

Well, I sure as hell know I'm going to get the two of them confused....

The only good thing Maxx Payne did was hit that brutal guitar shot at Slamboree '94.

Hey, I LIKED Maxx Payne.... quoting Megdeth lyrics, even though he was a mid-carder he was pretty decent.

Well see my name is J.R. And I just got a letter in the mail yesterday from Jim Ross....apparently he's sueing me for stealing his name.....damn....the name I've had for the past 19 years....he's kind of slow on the take isn't he!?

See this name shit is getting a little absurd. "Hey that is my name.....I'm sueing!" So does that mean my friend James can sue my other friend James for stealing his name? Can I sue Jim Ross? He hasn't been going by J.R. for 19 years like I have!

Shit, I was gonna sue Jay Z because his name sounds like "Jay Spree" and Nas and 2Pac were trying to kill me.

There's a games company here who have a male employee called Grant Hughes and a female employee called Mel Gibson, so they should sue Hugh Grant and Riggs for mental anguish through mistaken identity. And Dallas J.R. should sue wrestling J.R. and basketball J.R. Reid for gimmick infringement.

Hey I'm having trouble at school because people get me confused with all 3 of those guys! I'm sueing them all! I've been going by J.R. for 19 years! I at least have something on Jim Ross.

Well, my first two initials are J.R., so I'm gonna sue the bunch of you. Plus Jay Z, plus spree.com, plus JC Penny...

Man, I'm gonna be rich.

Linda Lee should sue SPike Lee on behalf of Bruce and Brandon.

Linda Lee should sue SPike Lee on behalf of Bruce and Brandon.

She should sue Bruce Li, Bruce Le, Dragon Lee, the people who did Fist of Fear, Touch of Death, and the list goes on and on and on.

Oh, I'm getting off topic.

True, but of course, those guys indirectly made Linda a shitload of cash. By ripping off the original Game of Death idea when Bruce died and his own version was unfinished, it took a while before Golden Harvest came up with their "new film with 12 minutes of cut & paste" idea, before going to Linda and paying her an assload of money for the footage.

And of course, there's the hypothetical argument that - since we're being silly about "I could use so-and-so" - everybody in Asia with the name Lee or Li (both acceptable as spellings of Bruce's last name) could sue the Bruce and Brandon Lee Estate.

"Sometimes I dream

That he is me!

Well ac-tu-al-ly

He is by name, you see!

So now I'll sue

Sue all of you!

Like Spike

If I could be like Spike

I wanna be I wanna be like Spi-ike!"
