Guest Gatornibs Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 I'm seeing a lot of 4 stars for Benoit/Guerrero, and have yet to see it. I wish it was a clean finish like Angle/Benoit. My question is: Which match was better, the Benoit match tonight or the Benoit match at Rumble (Clean ending)
Guest Choken One Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 No Argument. Benoit/Angle. Hands down. Better Match...Better Emotion...Better Drama...Better.
Guest JaKyL25 Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Benoit vs. Angle. If you've seen both, it's almost a no-brainer. Even WITH a clean finish, tonight's match wouldn't be toppling that match. Still great though.
Guest Askewniverse Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Without a doubt in my mind, Angle vs. Benoit.
iggymcfly Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 I actually thought that Angle/Benoit was really overrated, although that might have something to do with the fact that the sound wasn't working at the bar where I was watching it. The finish hurt the Benoit/Guerrero match to the point where it wasn't above ****, but from a pure entertainment standpoint, I'd say tonight's main event was much more fun than Angle/Benoit.
Guest Coffey Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Benoit/Angle @ RR by * Benoit/Angle @ RR = **** Benoit/Guerrero @ Vengenace = *** My ratings. The Benoit/Guerrero match had a lot of non-wrestling after the wrestling start (the comedy with the belt shots and the ref) and the Rhyno run-in for the finish. Add the botched Frog Splash that partially connected when it was supposed to miss, and there you go. Still the Vengeance MotN for me.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Benoit/Angle. It's so far apart it's not even funny.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Benoit/Angle. I don't even think Benoit/Eddy was the best match on the show. It would have been if they hadn't spent 15 minutes building towards a comedy finish.
Guest Choken One Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Benoit/Angle. I don't even think Benoit/Eddy was the best match on the show. It would have been if they hadn't spent 15 minutes building towards a comedy finish. Well it wasn't offensive because that's what every single Eddy match has finished with.
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 I would go with the Benoit/Angle match, but it was VERY VERY close. I am surprised that I am really the only one who saw it as close.
Cherry Blossom Viscount Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Was the finish, "Eddie cheats to win?" Because if it was, you better get used to these "comedy finishes," he's supposed to be the next Austin with this schtick.
Guest Choken One Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 R.R.R had it wrong... He isn't the next Austin...He is the next rock...
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Benoit/Angle. I don't even think Benoit/Eddy was the best match on the show. It would have been if they hadn't spent 15 minutes building towards a comedy finish. I agree. The tag match was better.
Cherry Blossom Viscount Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 There are plenty of "Rocks" out there. It's a pretty common phenomenon. But will they stayover like the Rock though? I remember if you wanted ANYONE to get heel heat in late '99 to 2001, you programmed them against the Rock. Those were the days.
Cherry Blossom Viscount Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Oh, and PLEASE don't let them split up the The Word's Greatest Tag Team. They actually got over by WRESTLING. I rarely seem them cut a promo, yet they are over huge as heels. They're very entertaining to watch and hopefully they'll break out some new moves so they won't get stale.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 I understand that's how Eddy finishes matches now but this one was over the top ridiculous with like 3 ref bumps as he tried to set up the comedy spots. They put on far too good a build for the direction they went.
Guest Retro Rob Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 R.R.R had it wrong... He isn't the next Austin...He is the next rock... I don't think so. Eddie seems more like the Austin character to me, a heel who is cheered. The Rock was simply a face that was cheered. Prior to his official face turn in 1999 he wasn't getting the same sort of reaction that Eddie has been getting over the last month. Plus Eddie can get over based on his in-ring skills. The Rock depended on mic work and charisma.
