Guest Choken One Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 I was thinking about the Summer Slam commerical with Lesnar F5ing Jaws and remembering that it got a Pretty fucking loud reaction at the bar... what does my esteemed IWC think of it? Personally I thought it was funny but it's an one shot deal...But The Slam commericals often been comedy based... After that "serious" comercial for Vengeance...it's a lighter way to go.
Guest MideonMark Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 I thought it was hilarious(but then again I'm easily amused). Just the visual of Brock F5ing a shark was very funny, also the ending with Lesnar in the sunglasses surrounded by bikini clad ladies was good. I liked it.
Guest TheBostonStrangler Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Great commercial. Kickass and a half.
Guest Goose749 Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 It was the best part of the PPV, according to the regular PPV folks at Hooters, Boston. Best part of the night? Red Sox beat the Yankees!!! (I know, wrestling board... But the Sox took the lead 7th inning during the main event, and so we all changed focus.)
Guest MARTYEWR Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Entertaining, creative, and features a guy you should build the promotion around. Not much more you can ask for in PPV promo. It got quite the reaction at the bar I was at too.
Guest Choken One Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 I'd marked if they Had A-Train and SOH in flip flops though...
ChrisMWaters Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 ...the title of this thread made me think about Brock Lesnar fighting against Richard Keil for some odd reason.
Guest Lightning Flik Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 ...and here I was thinking that Choken One was about to report that TNA's Shark Boy had been signed by the WWE to compete against Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam in a storyline that Shark Boy didn't appreciate how he treated the Shark, and thusly wanted revenge.
Guest nl5xsk1 Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 It was the best part of the PPV, according to the regular PPV folks at Hooters, Boston. Best part of the night? Red Sox beat the Yankees!!! (I know, wrestling board... But the Sox took the lead 7th inning during the main event, and so we all changed focus.) How was the turnout at Hooters? Was it wicked crowded? I was going to head into the city, but figured between the PPV and the Sox game that Hooters would just be painfully crowded so didn't make the trip in.
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 I loved it, personally. It got quite the reaction down here in Bama, too.
Guest Choken One Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 That confirms it! Brock Vs Jaws WMXX Main Event.
Guest Fook_Hing_Ho Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 I didn't see the ppv, so I missed this. Anyone got a link where I can dl it?
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 I like the comedy approach to the commercial. It just serves as entertainment, as it doesn't sell the PPV. To me the card actually does that.
Guest Choken One Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Well look at the History of Slam Commerical...All have been comedy...with couple exceptions.
Guest Plushy Al Logan Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 That confirms it! Brock Vs Jaws WMXX Main Event. Holy Shit! Tenta returns.
ChrisMWaters Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 That confirms it! Brock Vs Jaws WMXX Main Event. Holy Shit! Tenta returns. Either that, or, like I said, Richard Keil makes his WWE debut.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 I haven't seen it, but I hate it. Sure, people enjoy them, but does it make them want to buy the PPV? No, of course not, it doesn't give them any information about it nor does it build excitement. I _hate_ the comedy commercials in general for PPV's because they are pointless and the only reason I think they do them is so they can air the "making of.." on Confidential. Everyone who could buy Summerslam knows when it will be, so there's no need to "attract attention", but a good solid dramatic commercial could give goosebumps and the feeling of "oooh, THIS is going to be good".
Guest Choken One Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Oh for crying out loud... You can't say you hate something if you haven't seen the damn thing... It's funny and gets people's attention... "Hey Man you see that Wrestling commerical with the Shark?" "Yeah! That was funny" Better then... "WATCH SUMMERSLAM! BONE CRUNCHING SOUL BASHING HELL RASING MADNESS!" that we used to see...
Guest Plushy Al Logan Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Why does this thread bring back memories of the Yokozuna SS /93 commercial.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 I haven't seen knife stuck in my liver, but I sure as hell can tell you right now that I wouldn't like it... Why does it need to get peoples attention? Is Summerslam some mysterious event that the masses of wrestling fans need to know about???
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Loved it. Abso-fucking-lutely LOVED it.
Guest Choken One Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 That's your confirmation...Laz liked it. Metal Heads agree that Brock/Jaws was indeed "NICE".
Guest The Old Me Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 I liked the commercial. It served it's purpose.
Guest Choken One Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Here comes R.R.R to tell us "What _purpose_? That Lesnar can pick up a fucking Toy Shark? Some Purpose! Show me drama! blood! PRIDE! Show me a reason to buy the ppv! PRIDE!"
Guest The Old Me Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Here comes R.R.R to tell us "What _purpose_? That Lesnar can pick up a fucking Toy Shark? Some Purpose! Show me drama! blood! PRIDE! Show me a reason to buy the ppv! PRIDE!" That's what I'm waiting on too. How the fuck did those dumbass GAP commercials make anyone want to buy jeans? Some things you just leave alone.
Guest evilhomer Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 I liked it and it served it's purpose. That purpose being to remind a bunch of wrestling fans that have already shown that they'll drop the money for a PPV that there's another one on the way. Plus it gives them a chuckle and something to talk about other than guessing on what the matches will be. At a wrestling PPV, the commercial served it's purpose. At the superbowl, the same commercial would have been worthless.
Guest Trivia247 Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Thats it Shark Boy must avenge his....um father? Mother??? anyway oooo Brock's gonna Pay!
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 I would love an F5 into the water. Seems refreshing in some way. As long as it's deep enough, anyway.
Guest eiker_ir Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 the commercial was great, alot better than last year's one with Trish selling ice-cream.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Why even have wrestlers in it? If it's purpose is to make you laugh, why not have Dave Chappelle and Jerry Signfeld just talking to each other randomly telling jokes and have "Summerslam" appear under it? That will get your attention too. CO: WOWOOWOWOW~!!!! DIDJA SEE ALL DEM BRIGHT LIGHTS AND BIG NOIZEZ!!! ?! DIDJA DIDJA~!!! THAT DOG HAS A PUFFY TAIL!!! THERE'S A BLUE CAR! WWWWWOWOWOWOWOW!!
