Steinbrenner issues statement.

Um....and just how is this the Yankees worst team since the start of there run? 2000 team ring a bell? Only won 87 games, right now the Yankees have 63 wins, unless they have the worst second half possibly ever seen from a team over .500 in the first half I think there gonna end up being better.

This series really means nothing, the fact that every win was about as close as close can get just shows that there is no clear winner of the AL east either way. Let's at least wait until the last series of the season to talk about empires falling and curses.

Until then just remember, THE YANKEES LEAD THE AL EAST BITCHES!@!!!11

Obviously my tirade meant nothing.

I was surprised you even tried. Logic is no-sold in this forum more than just about any other.

Besides, everyone knows this is the Giants' year.

Not unless Grissom stays hot.

Yeah, cause I'm sure that Bonds guy has nothing to do with anything either...

Remember, that Yankee team went 0-8 to end the season. They would be on pace for 92 wins before the losing streak, so I'd base my comparisons on that.

It meant something. It's just that the smart ones of us don't get involved to start.

I didn't say worst, I said weakest and most vulnerable. Weaver has been shit as a #5 starter, 1-4 are all older than average, bullpen is questionable until you get to the closer, the depth isn't as great as it was in the past. Are they still one of the best teams in the East? Yes. (I can think of 180 million reasons why they are). But are they also more vulnerable? Yes.

I just want to say "History has proven that the Sox can't win" sounds a lot like "Hogan drew 15 years ago, so he'll draw now."

The past does not predict the present. Patterns do not persist into infinity. Fortunes do reverse.

Those 26 world series wins don't do a damn thing to win games on the field THIS YEAR. Yes, they're nice and pretty and they're traditional and "we've got more than you do nyah nyah nyah!" but if the Yankees prevail over the Red Sox at the end of the year, it'll because they had a better team THIS YEAR, and not because they had a bunch of great players and better teams hella years ago.

[They still had 22 world series worth of traditional success backing them when Steve Sax and the rest of "Jaywalkers Row" stunk up Ruth's house in the 80's, after all.]

One weekend series does not a season make. They count, but they don't weigh too heavily in the long run. It is far too soon to dance and sing "Ding Dong The Yanks Are Dead" though it is amusing to see Steinbrenner seem to overreact to one weekend series loss. I do think the Yankees are more vulnerable to being knocked off this year than they've been in years past, but in order for them to fall, there's still got to be somebody strong enough to knock 'em off.

Will the Red Sox be that team this year?

Ask me in two months.

I hate both teams, cause they are both a threat to the A's getting the wildcard if they don't overtake the division. The hell with the both of them. Even though I hate the Yanks with a passion I hope they win the divison, cause you know the Red Sox will fade away in september like usual allowing the A's to run away with the wildcard.

The Yankees have the most depth they've had in years. So what if the starters are old. 1-4 have been very productive. The bullpen isn't that bad. Osuna's healthy, and Hammond is not has bad as he was last night.

Mussina is 34

Pettitte is 31.

ROLL OUT THE WALKERS!

HOW DO THEY SURVIVE?

Are their games AARP sanctioned?

Wells and Clemens are old at 40 and almost 41, respectively.

Mussina's got some years left and Pettitte is YOUNG.

Just to be a smartass, if the Sox are going to fade it will be int he next 4 weeks or so. 3 in Ana, 7 against Oak, 7 against Sea (from 8/11-8/26 they only play Oak and Sea), then 3 with NYY. SO if the Sox are going anywhere it will be this month. Save the 3 with NYY 9/5-7 and 2 against the Chi Sox, who have been up and down all year Sept is all shit teams (Bal, Tampa, Cle, Bal, and Tampa). The only problem is that this month could also fuck up Oak, Sea, and NYY depending on how the SOx play.

It will be fun and stressful times for the Red Sox Nation.

If the Sox go 7-7 in those games vs Oak and Sea, they'll be in good shape. But after reading NoCal Mike's disparraging remarks, I hope they go 3-1 in Oakland and 3-0 in Fenway vs the D-'s. And I hope Pedro drills Hatteberg in the thigh with a fastball and points to the camera and mouths the words "You're next NoCal Mike, I don't care who is in your avatar!" ;)

Lets not forget that the White Sox gave the Twins the division by choking severely. Chicago is a much better team all around than Minny, and was a great matchup for the Yankees.

NOW

Yankees sweep Minny, and Oakland/Boston is just a toss up.
