What is Your Hometown...

Recommended Posts

Guest Texas Small Arms 09

The chick on ER (Sherri Stringfield) and Lyle Lovett graduated from my high school.

In 1999, Klein High School was voted 2nd Snobbiest School in the nation (behind Beverley Hills) on David Lettermen's Top Ten List.

Part of the movie Tin Cup was filmed at the country club right down the road from me.

Oh, yeah; I live less than a mile away from the church where they filmed Tom Sawyer's funeral in Disney's Tom and Huck.

Since we are getting into movies. They filmed parts of 8 Legged Freaks here. Horrible horrible movie. And I wont even begin to tell you how many movies have been filmed in the Grand Canyon.

An axe murder.

That's right. My hometown's claim to fame is a fucking double murder. Remember the rhyme?

Lizzie Borden took an axe

Gave her mother forty whacks

When she saw what she had done

She gave her father forty-one.

My high school English and economics teachers were IN Tin Cup. They're extras, and you can clearly see them in at least one of the golf scenes when Costner's putting on one of the greens.

As for the topic...uh, Janis Joplin spent half of one of her high school years at my high school. So says my now-retired former art teacher; I don't really know if it's true or not. Otherwise, we're famous for absolutely nothing.

Cheektowaga, NY - Polish capital of the US

I thought Chicago was the nation's Polish capital. Second only to Warsaw in numbers worldwide, you know.

Moses Lake, WA:

School shooting back in '96, at Frontier Jnr. High. Other than that shining incident, I don't know why anyone would've heard of my two-bit little town. Unless they saw it on this t-shirt.

A short drive from where I live is a place known as Peggy's Cove. Peggy's Cove happens to be one of the most-photographed places on earth, I'm told.

Oh, and Halifax is one of the few places where you can get donairs a plently. And I mean, there's a LOT of fucking places to get them. One intersection has 3 of it's 4 corners occupied by pizza/donair shops.

Oh, and Halifax was (It may still even be; I'm not even sure) on the top ten list of cities in North America to be nuked in the event of nuclear war.

No, seriously. Our harbour kicks ass. Well, it did...until we filled it with garbage. It still kicks ass, it just does it with a lot of garbage now, that's all...

The highest Canadian to ever be taken in a professional basketball draft (WNBA) is from here. Stacey Dales-Schuman was drafted 3rd over-all a few years ago.

Also, the host of All Access on VH1 and former MuchMusic VJ (and #67 on Maxim's Hot 100 list), Rachel Perry, graduated from the same high school that I went to (although a few years before I went there).

Bloomington, Indiana.

-Where Bobby Knight raised hell

-Mick Foley's birthplace (yeah, I know what you'll say "No he was born in Long Island." That's where he grew up. He was born here. I think he mentions it in his first book when he's talking about a meeting he had with a promoter. Its on page seventy or eighty something.)

edit: Aha! success! Mick mentions it on page 79 of Have a Nice Day!

Current Place of Residence: Wheeling, West Virginia

Famous for: We were a major stop on the Underground Railroad. The lowest-level sub basement in my aunts costume shop was a stop, and a makeshift morgue during the Civil War.

Previous Place of Residence: Joliet, Illinois

Famous for: Well, rudy(of the famous Sean Astin flick) went to the same high school that I did. As did current Tampa Bay FB Mike Alstott, and former Bears OG Tom Thayer. I also lived about 5 minutes away from the prison where the opening scenes to "The Blues Brothers" was filmed.
