Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted August 2, 2003 Diminished as he is, you just can't replace Maddux.. I can;t imagine anyone they could get by dangling Javy lopex out there that would come close to Maddux.
Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted August 2, 2003 By dangling Lopez to maybe Arizona, you might be able to get Schilling or Johnson, or maybe to Seattle to get one of their fine pitchers, or to Chicago to get Colon or Loaiza.
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted August 2, 2003 1. Lopez is a free agent after this season. 2. You have to be freakin nuts to trade a #1 for Javy Lopez. Yeah, he's got 30 home runs, but I see a 33 year old catcher with 3 bad years behind him. This season has "fluke" written all over it.
Guest bravesfan Report post Posted August 2, 2003 It's called "contract year". Everyone understands the concept that most players will only be motivated when their contracts are up. They apparently have someone just like him in the farm system that's ready now. Johnny Estrada (who was the "other man" in the infamous Millwood trade) is kicking ass for Richmond right now. He'll probably be useful next year. As for Furcal's probable departure, they'll have Wilson Betemit (AAA) to replace him. Betemit was pegged to replace Furcal a year or two ago (after Furcal's freak injury against the Red Sox), but IIRC, it was Giles who instead took Furcal's place on the roster.
