Best punches

Recommended Posts

Guest big Dante Cruz

I think a couple of people could get away with a "good punch" accolade.

DDP's punches are a lot like what many have said Angle's are.  When someone actually sells them, they're wicked.  He puts his body into them and it looks great.  But when he faces a no-seller (first one that comes to mind is Hogan in Spring Stampede 4way in '98) that takes a big shot and doesn't even turn his head to acknowledge that Page just unloaded.  Argh.

Sting was pretty good, too.  I may get flamed for this, but I think Sting and Bret Hart were close when it came to punches.  Hart threw good punches that weren't just face shots.  Sting alternated hands and areas of striking.

Taker?  Um, I have a tape "supposedly of 'best' matches, but a match with Kwang is on it) and what does he do?  In the words of Foley, an "asiatic throat thrust".  Yes, it does sound like a dirty joke.

Austin's are alright as long as they're not the Thesz press punches.  Noogienoogienoogie.

Austin (except for Lou Thez punches)

Razor Ramon (He used to have a HARD punch back then)

Angle (looks crazed when punching)

Bret Hart(Looks like he's "disecting" an opponent)

When Deadman Taker would get someone into the corner and do the body punches, those were wicked.

Exactly. Take a look at Summerslam 99 you'll see why I think he throws one of the best damn punches.

BEST: Vader, C.W. Anderson, Bobby Eaton

WORST: Undertaker's (Why? Because he takes as long as I do to take a crap to throw a punch. Wouldn't you just duck it?)

this reminds me of 'aqa teen hunger force' last night on adult swim when the mooninites tried to shoot frylock with the laser blast that moved at .4 miles per hour.

Whoa! That reminds me...I forget when it happened, but Undertaker had a match with Mankind and it looked like he was absolutely killing the man in the corner with his punches. That was insane. I was thinking it was a shoot or something they looked so damn vicious.

Pro-wrestler's don't know how to punch correctly or even make it look good in general. Watch a boxing match for good punching.

My personal favorites were always:

Scott Hall (Ramon/WCW days)

Kanyon

Bret Hart

Austin (cept for Thesz noogies)

And now:

Angle

Austin

I always dug the D-Von Dudley punches he gives when he's got you in the corner. He just looks so malicious doing them.

For stiff punches: Vader and Funk.

For (I think) loose punches: Bret, Angle, HHH

Did you notice how awful Flair's punches were @ SD? It was sort of sad. I like Flair as much as most people, but he was doing the Hogan 'chicken wing' punches for chrissakes.

(move your elbow around emphatically, the fist barely moves. Looks like a chicken flapping its wings, not the submission.)

You'd think that if the punch was one of Austin's 3 moves in 1998-99, he wouldn't have the worst punches. Best=Vader

by his own admission, angle throws a pretty stiff punch.  if i was a wrestler, i'd probably care about that & knock him off my favorites.  but i just care about what looks good.

lance storm's punches are awful & embarrassing to watch.  sid's punches are hilariously bad.  jericho's forearm blows are pretty bad, rob van dam's look WEAK AS HELL AND SHOULD BE BANNED.
