On Making the Band 2 (hip-hop group this time), P Diddy was having the band rap and he got pissed off because some of them didn't know the words to Juicy by Notorious B.I.G. Well guess what? Who fucking cares! You don't have to know all the words to Juicy to be a good rapper. You think P Diddy knows all the words to Wu-Tang's best songs? Or even 2Pac? Hell, fuckin' no. What a bastard. P Diddy is a worthless piece of shit that can't rap worth a damn and whose "album" was a joke and a stain on the face of rap. Hell, if he didn't get rights to use the beats from David Bowie, Sting, etc. that CD would not have even scraped the Billboard Top 10. The idea of the show is to get a recording contract with Bad Boy... Thus meaning you will be signed as a Company Representive... Thus as in ALL business... Knowing the company history is valuable. These kids, as has already been said, have been handed the opportunity of a lifetime on a silver platter. They didn't pay dues, they didn't struggle (hence, Diddy making them walk across the Brooklyn Bridge to get a slice of cheesecake...It may seem like a "dick" move, but like Diddy later said, he would've walked a million miles a million times to get ONE chance to be in the industry. These kids were bitching about that ONE walk they had to take, they are truly ungrateful and spoiled). The purpose of knowing the words to "Juicy" was to recognize the struggle, the rags to riches story that The Notorious B.I.G. details in his lyrics. "Juicy" is Biggie celebrating how he went from bad times and literally having nothing to having everything and being happy to share it with his family and friends. That's something that Puff feels these kids don't appreciate nor can even grasp. Of course, Puff's gonna be passionate about it: the man who penned those lyrics, allegedly his BEST friend, is DEAD; killed over some bullshit. It's not about how great the song is, how intricate the lyrics are or how phat the beat was. It's understanding the story, appreciating it and realizing just how GOOD they have it in comparison. Now as far as knowing Rapper's Delight, I'd be pissed, too. That's THE rap record, the beginning of hip-hop's mainstream acceptance and for aspiring rappers not to know it is like a basketball fan not knowing who Dr. Naismith was. Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted August 3, 2003 I won't deny the man worked hard but he was speaking on the level of music and when it comes to music, it bothers me that he made his first big push (as far as his own solo thing goes) with sampling. I realize the whole album was not just him sampling on every track, but every single except for All About The Benjamins was a sample track. That bothers me, same as it does with bands coming out of the blocks with cover songs. I just prefer people establish themselves with their own thing is all. And guys like D-dot would still get love from the same hip-hop circles dissing puff. And so what if he sampled. He MADE Jodeci...he MADE Mary J. Blidge in the beganning. He can't rap, but the man can write R&B. He's talented, and he is a business genius. And fuck each and everyone of those kids on that show, because they have no idea how good they have it. Everyone else can go to hell for all I care. As for the Puffy hate, when YOU make 300 million dollars off your own record label, then you can talk about how "good" or "bad" someone is. Puffy is one of the biggest acts in rap. He might not be the best rapper, he might not be the best writer. But he knows how to make a hit, and he done well doing that. To not see talent and drive there is just retarded. If you can't stand how he made a Lisa Standsfield song popular again because people like you make the lyrics true then it is just sad to see someone not get it. The only rappers right now more popular than Diddy are Em, Jay-Z, Fifty. And to quote Slim from 112.. "These kids don't know how lucky they are. Guest ant_7000 Report post Posted August 5, 2003 I haven't seen the show but i've heard what's been going on, like CJ said Puff is trying to show them to apperciate the opportunity that they have, thats why he got pissed for them not knowing the lyrics of "Juicy" (which is not hard at all). Personally, I think Puff still can make a Star out of someone, he has good track record. He MADE stars out of Jodeci (well K-Ci & Jo Jo), Mary J. Blige, Biggie, and Mase. I don't really like Puff and I wouldn't join Bad Boy neither because he always puts himself before his artists anyway, thats why his biggest acts from his R&B roster are gone now. If "Da Band" even has a hot single it'll be on one of his "P.Diddy and the family" album. Actually, Da Band has a song off the Bad Boys II soundtrack, the song is not bad thou. As far as people on the show that have any discernable quality/appeal? Sara and Babs. Sara's trying hard and they're making her do stuff she never intended to do. He could've signed Ludacris when he was ghostwriting for Bad Boy, but Puff slept on him. He has Black Rob and G Dep they sell ok but they aren't marketable enough in Puff's mind. I think 112 will do fine I think they'll will stay with the same formula unlike the LOX, its funny now how the LOX wanted out because they didn't wanted to be known as pop rappers and want to be all thugged out and all, now being themselves and they still struggle to go gold, and now they resort to doing pop songs with J.Lo and Mya.
