Guest MideonMark Report post Posted August 3, 2003 Report By: James McGuire, WNW Reader Forgive me if I have a few typos, its 3am. Not a full house, maybe 50% full which in the Saddledome is around 7,000. VERY active and vocal crowd. Ultimo Dragon vs Spanky Nice match to break the ice, few slipups. I can understand where Vince is coming from if the fact of him being 'sour' on Dragon is true. Crowd was mostly against Spanky and Ultimo pulled the victory. US Championship Match Tony Chimmel (who had his own chant from a few of us during the night) introduced Lance Storm as a special guest challenger for this bout. Storm got a massive ovation from his hometown fans, well deservedly! He and Eddie put on a nice match, seemed to click very well in the ring. Great spots, honestly caught myself thinking Storm may actually win, told a great story. Eddie was hilarious as always, signalling for the fans to kiss his mexican ass. As expected Eddie pulled off the victory by using a chair outside the ring while the ref was distracted. Pinned Storm with the frogplash. WWE Tag Team Championship Match Worlds Greatest Tag Team vs APA vs Basham Bro's w/Shaniqua vs Matt Hardy V1 & Shannon Moore Crowd were behind APA the whole way in a great and entertaining match. I never new how funny Benjamin and Haas could be until this! They really know how to play the fools. Interesting points.. Crowd loved Farooq, and spent most of the match chanting "FAROOQ, FAROOQ, FAROOQ IS ON FIRE". Haas & Benjamin with the victory over Matt & Shannon while APA & Bashams brawled on the outside. WWE Cruiserweight Championship Rey Mysterio vs Jamie Noble Amazing cruiser match. Back and forth action non-stop! Very evenly matched contest with Rey as the crowd favourite even though Im personally a Noble fan. Nice finish, a few new reversals on all finishers and Noble impressed the crowd by reversing the West Coast Pop in a way that is just too complicated to describe. Plus I probably wouldnt give it the credit it deserves. Rey Rey wins as expected. Special Guest Appearance by none other than EDGE! Great Ovation, Edge ran around through the fans and then into the ring to a standing ovation. He said he promised himself he wouldnt cry but that you have no idea how good it feels to hear a crowd like that again. Edge did genuinly get teary eyed and then started talking about how much he loves Calgary and how he feels its like a hometown to him. And that he has many great friends in the area such as Chris Benoit *Big Pop*, and... Bret Hart. Ok now it doesnt take a genius to figure what happened next.. one of the biggest pops Ive heard since I was at Wrestlemania xix lol. A huge Bret Bret Bret chant broke out and Edge laughed saying he promised Vince he wouldnt mention his name. One thing lead to another and Edge end up giving us all a 5 second pose, immitated Hogan abit I couldnt help but notice. John Cena vs Billy Gunn The Calgarians hated Cena but Im his biggest fan so I was probably the only person in the arena chanting for him so I hope he took notice lol. Gunn got a great ovation but instantly out broke a WE WANT TORRIE chant because she wasnt there. Awesomely contested match, Cena really shows alot of talent in person. Im even more confident in him main eventing Wrestlemania XX. A quick note.. I spotted Kurt through the curtain/tunnel studying Cena. Yet again.. Wrestlemania XX, Cena vs Angle Cena pulled the victory and happily left Calgary which he claimed he couldnt wait to do in his pre-match Freestyle. Gunn got an average ovation and pleased the ladies by showing his ass to the refs anger. Sorry but a guy obsessed with asses and wears pink has got to be gay in my books. McMahon - Gowen Segment To the crowds surprise.. in came brotha loooovvvveeee! Gave a preech about how Calgary has lost its soul, and started to introduce a man who would help bring back the spirit to Calgary. In comes Vinnie Mac himself wearing a shirt that was louder than Rico\'s.. no wait.. just.. Rico *Shivers* Vince claims he bought the shirt in Calgary and thats why its discusting. A few jaw jacking at the Canucks and in comes Zach Gowen to a great ovation. Vince ends up grabbing his prostetic leg while Brotha Love has him distracted and tells Gowen he has 10 seconds to get out of the ring before he throws the leg into the crowd. Vince and Brotha Love both turn around and begin counting out loud, Zach climbs the turnbuckle and smiles at us down in the front rows as we cheer him. As Vince reached 10 zach did move much similar to Jeff Hardys whisper in the wind hitting both McMahon and B.Love. Hit McMahon over the head with the leg and then did a legdrop to him much like he did to the big show off the air a few weeks ago on smackdown for those who saw the footage. Note - A pretty moving moment after Vince and Brotha.L had left. Zach was walking down the aisle right where I was and a man came up near me with his young son in his arms who also had one leg. He was bald and also suffering from cancer. Quite a coinsidence huh. Zach spent a couple minutes with the both and seemed to show him his fake leg etc. Pretty touching moment to see in person. Chris Benoit vs Rhyno \"I quit\" / Submission match Awesome chemistry between the two from what I could see. Some freakin deadly chops by Benoit lemme tell ya! Benoit with the victory in what will hopefully make a nice summerslam match in Pheonix. Great to see Rhyno in the spotlight as a major heel, he got alot of heat. WWE Championship Match! Kurt Angle vs Brock Lesnar Nothing short of amazing, Angle is my alltime favourite and I was overwhelmed when he shook my hand on the way out after. Very mixed crowd, Id like to say most were behind Kurt but it was too close to call. Yet another awesome show of wrestling skills. If any of you noticed the beared Brock is growin on Smackdown, its confirmed.. he didnt just miss one shave. Its gettin bigger lol. Hopefully signals a heel turn in the near future but back to the match. Much like WMXIX the match began with mat work, great mat work at that. Very intense stuff. High spots - Brock hit the f5 but knocked the ref at the same time so couldnt get the pin. Kurt got the victory after rolling up Brock a few seconds later. This match had an unusual amount of rollups.. seriously lol, one of them really caught my eye. I cant fully remember who did it to who but I believe it was after kurt had the ankle lock, brock reversed, and then one of em rolled up the other after something. They kinda did it sideways instead of the small package style. V.Hard to explain. I feel honored to have seem these two wrestle each other twice, and cant wait to see it again tomorrow night in Edmonton! Full reports from Edmonton house show coming tomorrow. Card may be slightly different. Notes Zach Gowen is awe inspiring live. Edge said this was his first appearance infront of a crowd like this since he broke his neck, but Im not 100% if thats totally true. Glad to see he has all the stregnth back in his left arm, he nearly freakin broke my arm when he high fived me down the aisle lol. He was running so I dunno.. This is the best house show Ive been to and it was much improved since the last one in 2002. Vince did mention much of the Hart Family in his segment, and hinted on a possible appearance when wwe returns in 2004. Rumors say the Royal Rumble is coming to Calgary, and another ppv is coming to Edmonton sometime during the later year. We can only hope Bret realises how many people want to see him just make a one night return.. -Ultimo Dragon vs Spanky, Storm vs Eddy, Noble vs Rey, Rhyno vs Benoit and Lesnar vs Angle. Smackdown is so superior to Raw its not even funny

We can only hope Bret realises how many people want to see him just make a one night return.. Shit, imagine the pop Bret would get as a surprise entrant in the Rumble. Obviously, it probably won't happen but the Rumble always has the potential for surprises. Maybe we'll get no surprises again next year though, not that I'm complaining, the show was hot. Yes, but imagine how much bitching this lot at TSM would do had Bret won the rumble, when lets face it, he would HAVE to, or there would be a LOT of canadian fans pissed. I dunno, I could see him come in, beat the everloving piss out of Shawn and then be dumped by Jericho (or Canadian X). The pop would be huge, no one loses their heat, Canadian X gains some heat and marks and smarks alike rejoice. Win- win the way I see it.

Not really- You could have it come down to the final 2- Have Bret be the last guy eliminated and then he comes back in and congratulates the winner and puts him over. TheFranchise 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2003 and dont get back into the zach gowen, both feet debate, but who's going to win the rumble? bret to raise Lesnar's hand?
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted August 3, 2003 and dont get back into the zach gowen, both feet debate, but who's going to win the rumble? bret to raise Lesnar's hand? Yea- Bret could raise Angle or Lesnar's hand and the crowd will be happy. If Bret's happy- they're happy
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted August 3, 2003 and dont get back into the zach gowen, both feet debate, but who's going to win the rumble? bret to raise Lesnar's hand? Okay, I advise that you go to the CHuck E Cheese thread for all sorts of Zach Gowen/Fake Leg madness. 1. The Rumble will NOT by won by Lesnar. It will be Van Dam (longshot), Orton (wish it was a longshot but closer than RVD), Zach Gowen, or Fake Leg. 2. Bret is in no condition to wrestle in any way whatsoever on a national stage. Just have him show up at Wrestlemania XX and talk a little.

Shawn Michaels was also in no condition to wrestle, iirc. Look at him now. (Does this mean Bret will also be a shade of his former self? ) But yes, Fake Leg has better chance of winning the rumble than RVD, but it wont be Orton. I wonder how much of a pop Jericho would get if he won it and shook Bret's hand...
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted August 3, 2003 I don't WANT Lesnar/Angle again. I don't like the idea of repeating WM main events. There are plenty of other matches we could do. PS: Big pop for Jericho shaking hands with Bret or any of that. PPS: If Bret DID come, laws of karmic retribution would neccessitate kicking Bill Goldberg in the head really fucking hard.
TheFranchise 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2003 No... Jericho kicks Goldberg in the head very very hard.... Or, Goldberg wins the rumble to a crap reception from the canadian fans, bret goes to shake his hand, RIGHT HAND!! Sharpshooter! *faints from marking out so much*

There's a difference
TheFranchise 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2003 What i mean, people were writing Michaels off because they didnt no the full extent of his injury, to be honest, not everybody knows the full extent of Bret's stroke, maybe only Bret and his doctors.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted August 3, 2003 There had always been talk of Shawn making a comeback. He was supposed to come back in 2001. Bret has a history of concussions and a stroke-I don't think he would want to damage his legacy if he couldn't go 100%
TheFranchise 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2003 Even for one last match, albeit a long one? He COULD enter number 30, or he could just come out and congratulate the winner, ala what he did for Lance Storm back in WCW in Canada.
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted August 3, 2003 Nope, Bret is probably done. I would be happy with a speech at Wrestlemania and/or at a Raw or Smackdown at the Saddledome.
TheFranchise 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2003 No, i think it HAS to be Mania. Actually, helping Jericho beat Michaels at Mania. That would be sweet.
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted August 3, 2003 Do you think they're going to do a Legends ceremony at WMXX? They ahven't added anyone to the Hall of Fame in a while. Is there still a Hall Of Fame? Was there ever?

Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted August 3, 2003 Does anyone else think they should forgo he Ross-Lawler-Cole-Tazz team and go with Vince McMahon and Bobby Heenan(if his voice is better)? Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted August 3, 2003 If Bret returns, he should help out Benoit being that they're from the same place. It'd be a waste and just wouldn't make sense for Bret to help out anyone else. He could stop Vince who would be trying to prevent Benoit from winning the title. Ideally, Bret would punch out Vince when he tries to take over as subsitute reff in Benoit's emotional final climatic attempt to win the title. If his condition allows him Bret would than take over as refferee. This situation would have to happen in Edmonton or Calgary.
TheFranchise 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2003 Actually, McMahon could attempted the Montreal Screwjob II (I'm not even going to count Hogan as being screwed as such) and Bret comes down to take down Vince, and Benoit goes on to win the title clean, without bret's help in the actual match, and Bret offers him a congratulations after, somewhat passing the torch to Benoit... Of course, this is the WWE, so he'll have to pass the torch to A Train, and if Shane is in charge, Test...
Guest AM The Kid Report post Posted August 3, 2003 Ah man that show last night was awesome. I don't have time to post my feelings on the whole thing, but I have so much respect for Zach Gowen now. Amazing guy! Plus I was amazed by the pop Billy Gunn got...it was sickening.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2003 That's the whole reason why Gowen is so valuable. One appearance in person and people remember him. For good reasons. Oh, and if Bret comes back and wrestles in the Rumble or whatever, I lose one SHIT load of respect for him.
TheFranchise 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2003 I wouldn't lose any respect for Bret in a business where Kanyon sings Boy George songs to Undertaker.
Guest Lord of The Curry Report post Posted August 3, 2003 Vince was great on commentary. Him and The Body, that would rock. Are you smoking crack? Vince fucking sucked on commentary.
