DMB has actually had big hits. The Dead were never a singles band.

Exactly, you didn't see/hear Dead tunes used to promote TV shows/movies like you hear DMB songs. Not to say that DMB won't be a draw for another 10-15 years, because if they choose to, they will be. Maybe Jimmy Buffett would be a better comparison!

Shadows Fall are the Iron Maiden/Metallica of our generation (musically closer to Maiden, but closer to Metallica in terms of popularity during the beginning).

I agree with you in some ways, but I don't know if they will ever get Metallica big. I love Shadows Fall to death, but I can't see them as being the next big thing. I can see them being Motorhead big though, since they are well respected by the metal community, but will never be a major crossover artist.

Never say never. Metallica went platinum with Master Of Puppets and sold out stadiums on their own name without even getting major MTV or radio play. Shadows Fall, this year alone, was a headliner at the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival, is a big band on the OzzFest tour, and is a headlining act at WAAF's LocoBazooka 2003. They're getting bigger already, and only after 2 albums. I predict that the next album will be HUGE.

I can see Blur sticking around for ages, even if it's only Damon. He's one of those artists who can just write a great tune at the drop of a hat.

You and I must have different copies of Think Tank.

Think Tank proved what 13 suggested: Blur are a great singles band, and as long as they put out a couple of good singles off an album, they'll keep selling and making records.

 

Fairs fair, Out Of Time is far better than anyone suspected Blur would do after 11 years.

I know I'm the only resident 311 nut on this board, but I believe they have longevity. Think about it: they've gone for years without mainstream success (formed in '89, first major label debut in '93), are true touring roadwarriors, had their moment in the sun (triple-platinum self-titled album) that greatly increased their hardcore fan base, once again: the fact they have a big, rabid fanbase that worships them and keeps them living comfortably, they LOVE and appreciate their work, they're all best buddies, don't have drug addiction problems (alcohol and weed is all they do), have incredible energy in their live shows, run their band like a business and put money back into the band (so that they don't blow all their cash like the "Where are they now?" stories) and they're maturing right along with their aging fanbase. These are a pretty good set of ingredients for being around a while; hell, they've already been doing this over a decade.

 

They get my vote.

Not really, 'cause all of the bands that jumped on the rap/rock bandwagon in the late '90s will fizzle out, but 311 does enough evolving to stay ahead of the curve, while all the Crazy Towns of the world keep ending up in the bargin bins.

Well....wait...I'm a HUGE Metallica fan and I just don't understand people saying that they haven't released anything worthwhile since The Black Album. I love some of there newer stuff. When people say "Do you like old or new Metallica?" I simply respond with "I like Metallica....period." Which means ALL Metallica.

And I agree on Disturbed. I LOVE Disturbed. The concert of theres I went to with Chevelle, Unloco(sucked), and Taproot(sucked) was badass.

I also would like to say that Rancid and Bad Religion will never go away. Nor will NOFX. And I believe that Dropkick Murphys(badass live) are here to stay. Oh and the Dropkicks are REAL nice guys. I met them at The Warped Tour and they kicked so much ass.

I hope that music will have another revolution a la Rock Around The Clock, as the rock 'n' roll era has run its course, thus most of the current stars will have to stop.

 

But there's no sign of that happening any time within the next ten years. Everyone really needs to comprehend just how much a change is needed in the music scene.
