Guest shlidgn90 Report post Posted August 6, 2003 normally, i hate those lists. but that list is freaking amazing. the source really did an great job mixing up popular acts and underground classics. i do have some minor gripes though. 1. they should have listed all the songs without ranking. 2. onyx's throw ya gunz should be replaced with slam. i love both songs though. 3. i wish ether and takeover were both on the list. and if they were listed they should be listed together. in hip hop history they should always be listed together. Guest shlidgn90 Report post Posted August 6, 2003 elevators is by far the best single outkast released on their best album. atliens is the album that separated outkast from all the bling-bling rappers out at that time and put them on the list of the nas's and fugee's of the hip-hop world. during a time when guys like biggie and tupac were making songs about making money and showing off in the hood. elevators was a song about two guys struggling to make it in the music business and living out their dreams to make music, not money. Guest razazteca Report post Posted August 6, 2003 I like Freaks Come Out at Night better than Friends by Whodini. Rene better than Jeeps Lex Coups, Bimas & Benz by Lost Boyz. But the list is a good one but not as questionable as VH1! list.
Guest Shaved Bear Report post Posted August 6, 2003 as for DMX at 75...i dont think Ruff Ryder's is his best song, it probably shouldve been Party Up or Stop Being Greedy
Guest Doyo Report post Posted August 6, 2003 5. Fight The Power- Public Enemy This is the only Public Enemy song on here. No "Bring the Noise" or "Rebel Without a Pause"? 6. Top Billin- Audio Two I don't think I've ever heard this. 44. Ha- Juvenile ???? 62. Electric Relazation- A Tribe Called Quest Interesting. 100. Rugulate- Warren G 120. Stan- Eminem Well we know the Source is fueding with Em, but who in their right mind would put this 20 spots higher than Em's only song on here.

Guest Doyo Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Why exactly do they have beef with him? Rapper Benzino is said to be one of the owners of the Source. In efforts to get publicity before his album came out, Benzino made comments about Eminem and they started fueding.
Guest William E Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Why the hell isn't DMX's "Get At Me Dog" not on that list and I think "Stan" should have been higher. I liked Juvenile's "Ha" but noway is it better than Stan.
Guest ant_7000 Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Actually, I agree with most of the list accept for Juvinile's "Ha" that shouldn't be on list. I think Pac's "So many tears" should be on there. Pac's "Keep your Head up" should be higher than "Dear Mama." Im suprised that they did let Em on the list since Benzino don't like him and the fact that Em broke his Source Award on stage. Where's "Triumph" by the Wu and The Roots "you got me" thats only complaints. I wish I could make a Cd compilation out most of these songs.
Guest Ripper Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Broken Language by Smooth tha Hustla and Trigga the Gambler. MARK THE FUCK OUT~! That song is the shit on so many levels. And Big L'S Ebonics. The way these two songs played with words are incredible. And I am suprised that Benzino isn't on the list somewhere. Since he always appears in "The Best Rappers Ever" or "Best Lines Ever" or "Most influencial Artist" list.

Guest Choken One Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Which is why Benzino didn't do shit for the list with Em... He kinda HAD to put a EM song on it but he put it in low and it wasn't even one of the songs that Made EM the mainstream guy... Although...EM might consider "Stan" his best work...and it is...from a certain standpoint... He would likely perfer "Lose Yourself" but I doubt he even gives a fuck... At least they didn't let their hate for Em keep Dre off the list whom clocks in 3 or 4 tracks... However...Kinda shocked unless i missed it, that "California Love" wasn't on the list considering it's one of the most well known and played Rap singles... That should be on the list and not something like "Country Grammer".

Guest Crucifixio Jones Report post Posted August 6, 2003 I honestly don't have many issues with that list. Good job. Although I don't know why CNN's "TONY" is on this list, Stick You and LA, LA were much better. I just think it's funny that the initial poster posted this list *just* to bitch about Eminem's placement. What, were you expecting him to be at #1 just because most non-rap fans happen to like him and everything he does? HA! I don't think the list is too old-school. I think you guys are too young and something doesn't have to be current to be great. Why is it that white fans can appreciate classic rock (and I'm sure if they made a list of 100 Greatest Rock songs, it would be old-school, too) but with hip-hop they don't respect the history? Not only do they not respect it, you'd be lucky if they even KNEW any. Eminem is not a rap God, get used to it. He may have sold alot of records, he may be one of the best lyricists of all time and YES he MAY even be white, but that doesn't mean that he should automatically be near the top of this list. Do you see any Biggie (who's not even in the Top 10) and Pac fans claiming their heroes should be #1? What makes Em so great? He could've been placed higher, I agree, but to whine about where he's at when you look at all the other songs on here (not just how much you like them, but how they changed and/or affected the entire genre) you can't really argue. When I think about things that Eminem has done to actually CHANGE rap, I can't think of that many. There were plenty of good and witty lyricists before him, there were rappers outta Detroit before him and there were white rappers who gained massive crossover acceptance before him...so what has he really done?
Guest Choken One Report post Posted August 6, 2003 I think he was just pointing out the possible eminem Bias... Has he CHANGED rap? well...he gave us 50... but whoever said Change is good never heard 50.
Guest Ripper Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Eminem is the BEST white rapper, the BEST Detroit rapper and one of the BEST lyricist of all time. So being the best at something is changing the game. I mean, if you take that route of thinking, what did Biggie and Pac do that others before them didn't. Not saying they didn't change the genre at the time, but the same argument can be made for them. You can hear the "I want to be funny and cleaver in my lyrics" style coming on now, and although Redman is the true god of that (Yeah...I said it....Reggie is a fucking GOD) some of that has to be accredited to Eminem's emergence. He has changed the game a bit. And I do agree with Choken...he was just pointing out the number after the whole Em bias by the source.

If The Message was released in the last ten years, it wouldn't be where it is in that list.
Guest Ripper Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Holy jesus christ, Ja-Rule and Ashanti for always on time? The J-lo song should be on there more. Every since then we get R&B singers with rappers trying to redo that fucking song. If I had to take a Ja-Rule song it would have been holla or that joint with the McGuyver beat.
