Also since he is a rookie playing against veterans, and that he is an 18 year old boy playing against 20 to 40 year old mens, that he won't be good his first couple of years. And I think everybody is going to call him sorry just because he will average aoubt 7 points a game. But that doesn't make him sorry. For example look at all the other rookie's who came out of high school, like Kobey Bryant, Tracy Magrady, and Jermaine O'Neal, they all avergaed about 7 points a game, and look at them now all three of them at least average about 20 points a game. But also all three of them took 3 to 4 years to develope into real good NBA players. So I think people should except the same thing from Lebron James and they shouldn't except him to score 20 or 30 points a game, just because they are talking about him so much. Because people made as much a big hype about Kobey Bryant in his rookie year and when he didn't score 20 to 30 points a game everybody called him sorry, so they shouldn't do the same thing to Lebron James. I have such a passionate dislike for players/teams that get so much smoke blown up their ass, I just end up rooting against them (e.g. Jordan, Tiger, Yankees, Lakers, Avalanche). He'll most likely fail to live up to the expectations initially but if people show some patience he'll most likely be a very good player. That I'll root against for his entire career. And before you get down on me, he has 90 million dollars from Nike to fall back on, plus whatever salary he gets from whatever team he plays for. I just think that it would serve all the parties right for pushing a 17 year old kid into everyone's face, and hailing him as the greatest basketball player to walk the earth, and the man that is going to save the NBA, despite him never stepping on the NBA playing surface. After the media and everyone else used him to their advantage virtually for free, he deserves to squeeze every last penny he can from the new people using his image/fame to their advantage. Guest mw679 Report post Posted August 6, 2003 No matter what happens this year, barring a major injury, I think the real winner here are the Cavs. They'll benefit from all the jersey sales, people are gonna come out to watch this kid, just because of all the hype. He's already had some bad games in the NBA summer leagues, playing against scrubs that probably won't make an NBA team, yet he still sent the fans home happy. I was reading reports of one game where he scored like, 7 points, but because of a couple of flashy moves and a couple of dunks, he won the crowd over. EDIT: One more thing, if you're getting 100 million thrown at you for playing great against high school kids, that negates the fact that Kobe, KG, TMac needed 3-4 yrs to develop. He's got the money, now I wanna see if he has it in his first year (although it is wrong to expect that from a rookie) But still, earn the money that way. And I know when he makes a mistake, ppl will be kissin his ass and putting in the age factor. They've compared him to Magic, so "King" James, live up to the legend. I think hes in a no win situation personally, he more or less has to come out playing like Michael Jordan circa 91 and no one can do that at 18. Kobe and T-Mac didnt get 100 mil when they came in, they didnt get as much hype. When a player like Lebron receives that much hype, comparisons are bound to happen and they are expected. And why stop at Kobe and Tmac? They've been comparing Lebron to Magic. Let's see Lebron win the title in his first year like Magic did. Magic didn't take a basement team with lack of talent and direction to the Championship in his first year. Well, injuries killed them off pretty quick. For everyone that says "wait a few years, he'll be the greatest" keep in mind, he might not last a few years. Even if he is a phenom, he's still an 18-year-old kid playing a man's sport, and he could easily get burned out or injured trying to take a team like the lowly Cavs on his shoulders. Personally, I hate hype. Especially the overblown mult-million-dollar variety. I also hate the NBA's love affair with flashy name players over of solid team play. He is getting paid the same amount every other lottery pick is getting paid. And in the SUmmer league, I think his worse game was 12 points. People say that the Summer League is all scrubs, but when the minutes remain consistant, rookies put up the same or better numbers in the regular season than they do in the SUmmer League. He will play more minutes in the season, and his numbers will be better. BTW, he had great all around game in the SL...something that will traslate over well into the season.
