Guest shaqaustin34 Report post Posted August 6, 2003 I think that Lebron James won't live up to everyone's expectation like everyone think he will. Also since he is a rookie playing against veterans, and that he is an 18 year old boy playing against 20 to 40 year old mens, that he won't be good his first couple of years. And I think everybody is going to call him sorry just because he will average aoubt 7 points a game. But that doesn't make him sorry. For example look at all the other rookie's who came out of high school, like Kobey Bryant, Tracy Magrady, and Jermaine O'Neal, they all avergaed about 7 points a game, and look at them now all three of them at least average about 20 points a game. But also all three of them took 3 to 4 years to develope into real good NBA players. So I think people should except the same thing from Lebron James and they shouldn't except him to score 20 or 30 points a game, just because they are talking about him so much. Because people made as much a big hype about Kobey Bryant in his rookie year and when he didn't score 20 to 30 points a game everybody called him sorry, so they shouldn't do the same thing to Lebron James. Give Lebron James a couple of years and watch him become one of the best in the NBA.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Something about this kid shows me that he has "IT". And it's not the Marketing/hype...The kid seems so damn legit...
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted August 6, 2003 I have this weird feeling his career gets cut short by a severe injury.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Of course Lebron isn't going to set the league on fire his first year...it's rare for any rookie to do that. As long as he has good mentors and coaching I think he'll become the player people expect him to be.
Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted August 6, 2003 It's most likely just petty jealousy, but I really hope that he bombs as an NBAer. I have such a passionate dislike for players/teams that get so much smoke blown up their ass, I just end up rooting against them (e.g. Jordan, Tiger, Yankees, Lakers, Avalanche). He'll most likely fail to live up to the expectations initially but if people show some patience he'll most likely be a very good player. That I'll root against for his entire career. Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted August 6, 2003 As much as he's being shoved down my throat by the boobs at ESPN, and the assholes at work, I hope he crashes and burns. And before you get down on me, he has 90 million dollars from Nike to fall back on, plus whatever salary he gets from whatever team he plays for. I just think that it would serve all the parties right for pushing a 17 year old kid into everyone's face, and hailing him as the greatest basketball player to walk the earth, and the man that is going to save the NBA, despite him never stepping on the NBA playing surface. I have nothing against him personally, I'm just tired of hearing about him.

Guest El Satanico Report post Posted August 6, 2003 I hope he succeeds and squeezes every penny he can from every team he plays for and from every company that uses him for endorsements. After the media and everyone else used him to their advantage virtually for free, he deserves to squeeze every last penny he can from the new people using his image/fame to their advantage. I just hope he has trustworthy people around him to help him earn as much money as possible.

Guest mw679 Report post Posted August 6, 2003 No matter what happens this year, barring a major injury, I think the real winner here are the Cavs. They'll benefit from all the jersey sales, people are gonna come out to watch this kid, just because of all the hype. He's already had some bad games in the NBA summer leagues, playing against scrubs that probably won't make an NBA team, yet he still sent the fans home happy. I was reading reports of one game where he scored like, 7 points, but because of a couple of flashy moves and a couple of dunks, he won the crowd over. So, like was mentioned before, this kid has "IT". It will be interesting to see what developes, I'll be rooting for Lebron to do well.

Guest ErekT2k Report post Posted August 6, 2003 One word. Overrated. EDIT: One more thing, if you're getting 100 million thrown at you for playing great against high school kids, that negates the fact that Kobe, KG, TMac needed 3-4 yrs to develop. He's got the money, now I wanna see if he has it in his first year (although it is wrong to expect that from a rookie) But still, earn the money that way. And I know when he makes a mistake, ppl will be kissin his ass and putting in the age factor. They've compared him to Magic, so "King" James, live up to the legend. So yeah your point agane.

Guest The Grand Pubah of 1620 Report post Posted August 6, 2003 This kid is the real thing. Baring an injury he'll be the next legend. I haven't seen someone with his talents since Magic. He has a build of a forward with the grace and presence of a point guard. TOTAL PACKAGE!
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted August 6, 2003 He played for a few years first El. oh Did he...hmm...well then Still he was young and unproven when they resigned him to the 100+ mill contract...so ha ha :walks away:
Guest shaqaustin34 Report post Posted August 6, 2003 I'am not saying you shoot root for, but you also don't have boo for him or flame him. They also made a big deal out of all the other rookies who came out of high school. People hat him because the man can play and people are just jealous of him. There is no reason for people hating him when they have not even seen him play or anything. I bet if he was going to your favorite you'll wouldn't say that you'll don't like him. Not that I am saying that the Cavaliers are my favorite team, because my favorite team is LA Lakers. It's all about the Lakers.
Guest ShamRock Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Yes, he can play against High School kids, but we'll see how he'll manage against Kobe or T-Mac. If I was him, I'd go to college first to become better.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Lets see...learn while getting paid...learn while earning money for other people. I think I'd pick the route Lebron is taking if i was in his position.
Guest shaqaustin34 Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Yes, he can play against High School kids, but we'll see how he'll manage against Kobe or T-Mac. If I was him, I'd go to college first to become better. You can't be comparing Lebron James to someone like Kobe and T-Mac. Lebron James is a rookie, Kobie and T-Mac been in the game longer and they are experienced. Pluse Kobie and T-Mac got their ass killed too, by other good player, on their rookie year. Kobie avergaed about 7 points a game his rookie year, and so did T-Mac, but look at them know. It will be the same thing with Lebron James, just wait and you'll see. Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted August 6, 2003 I feel bad for him. If he averages 7 points or 25 points, he will probably still be looked at as a letdown by some of the fans. I think hes in a no win situation personally, he more or less has to come out playing like Michael Jordan circa 91 and no one can do that at 18. Theres just too much hype for anyone in their first year.
Guest ErekT2k Report post Posted August 6, 2003 (edited) um...Kevin Garnett got the first 100+ million contract in the NBA coming straight out of high school. So yeah your point agane. Yeah, but KG played a few years first, showed what he can do and proved he is a franchise player. But I'm sure you knew that... You can't be comparing Lebron James to someone like Kobe and T-Mac. Lebron James is a rookie, Kobie and T-Mac been in the game longer and they are experienced. Pluse Kobie and T-Mac got their ass killed too, by other good player, on their rookie year. Kobe and T-Mac didnt get 100 mil when they came in, they didnt get as much hype. When a player like Lebron receives that much hype, comparisons are bound to happen and they are expected. And why stop at Kobe and Tmac? They've been comparing Lebron to Magic. Let's see Lebron win the title in his first year like Magic did. Not gonna happen unless Duncan, Shaq, Malone, Webber, Bibby, and so on all get injured. Edited August 6, 2003 by ErekT2k
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Magic also joined a good team, which Lebron hasn't. Magic didn't take a basement team with lack of talent and direction to the Championship in his first year. If Lebron in his first season is able to get the lowly Cavs into the playoffs yet alone win the championship he'll be the greatest that ever played.
Guest MaxPower27 Report post Posted August 6, 2003 I'am not saying you shoot root for, but you also don't have boo for him or flame him. So, because my opinion of him is different from your's, I'm flaming him? People hat him because the man can play and people are just jealous of him. There is no reason for people hating him when they have not even seen him play or anything. I hatE him because I'm tired of looking at him, hearing about him, and watching them break down how he's going to effect his team. I'm TIRED of him. I'm not jealous of him. I watched him play one night when there was nothing else on TV. And I don't care. I bet if he was going to your favorite you'll wouldn't say that you'll don't like him. Not that I am saying that the Cavaliers are my favorite team, because my favorite team is LA Lakers. It's all about the Lakers. I don't have a favorite team. Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Remember just a few years ago when everyone was talking about how Grant Hill and Vince Carter were the next superstars of the NBA? Well, injuries killed them off pretty quick. For everyone that says "wait a few years, he'll be the greatest" keep in mind, he might not last a few years. Guest notJames Report post Posted August 6, 2003 I agree with nl5xsk1. He's got so much to live up to that he might feel compelled to take over games too often and overextend himself. Even if he is a phenom, he's still an 18-year-old kid playing a man's sport, and he could easily get burned out or injured trying to take a team like the lowly Cavs on his shoulders. Personally, I hate hype. Especially the overblown mult-million-dollar variety. I also hate the NBA's love affair with flashy name players over of solid team play. So the Machiavellian in me hopes he pulls a Grant Hill and leaves a lot of egg on people's faces.
Guest Ripper Report post Posted August 6, 2003 1, Lebron James didn't get a 100 million dollars coming right out. He got a shit load of money from NIKE. He is getting paid the same amount every other lottery pick is getting paid. And in the SUmmer league, I think his worse game was 12 points. People say that the Summer League is all scrubs, but when the minutes remain consistant, rookies put up the same or better numbers in the regular season than they do in the SUmmer League. He will play more minutes in the season, and his numbers will be better. BTW, he had great all around game in the SL...something that will traslate over well into the season. I predict about 18-8-8 for his first year. A let down to some, a incredible rookie season for most.
