Guest wrestlingbs Posted August 10, 2003 Report Posted August 10, 2003 Raw has two tag teams: Dudleys and La Resistance. You could count Goldust and Storm or Rosie and Hurricane, but since they haven't even wrestled yet, I don't. There's also Garrison Cade and Jindrak(sp), but that's beside the point... La Resistance was born from a fad. Specificly, the anti-French attitude some had during the war in Iraq. Vince, ever the man to spread the flames of hatred, decided to capitalise on this by bringing in two very green French-Canadians. While it may have made sense at the time (it didn't to me) now it seems silly with the major fighting over. This got me to thinking, what other fad gimmicks have sprout up over the years, and have just as easily fizzled out? Two off the top of my head: Tommy Dreamer's Jackass gimmick, and the Whatttup headbutt. Dreamer's went over horribly, partly due to the fact that he was still treated like a joke. Remember Taker throwing him around? The Dudley's Whattup thing lasted awhile, but I don't think they even do it anymore. I mean, the commercial's long dead. Want to add your thoughts on fad gimmicks? Just want to bash La Resistance? Add on.
The Czech Republic Posted August 10, 2003 Report Posted August 10, 2003 They need Jacques Rougeau as a manager and rename themselves Bloc Quebecois.
David Blazenwing Posted August 10, 2003 Report Posted August 10, 2003 The Dudleyz still do the "Whassup" headbutt in almost every match. It's gotten to be a highlight, and now almost always comes right before a 3D/getting Table spot.
Guest Coffey Posted August 10, 2003 Report Posted August 10, 2003 Just send both Raw tag teams to Smackdown & get rid of the Raw tag team titles...
Guest Fook Posted August 10, 2003 Report Posted August 10, 2003 No no no. Do whatever you want with the belts and the teams, just keep them on Raw. We don't need to see the Dudleys and their incredibly stale act ruin the SD tag division and make TWGTT look like second rate chumps.
Only The Strong Survive Posted August 10, 2003 Report Posted August 10, 2003 We need more traditional teams like the Basham Brothers and Cade/ Jindrak... the Dudleyz are too much like Legion of Dying Old Men
Guest Coffey Posted August 10, 2003 Report Posted August 10, 2003 The Dudley Boyz just need to turn heel. If they run amock, they would be fine. Just 3D random cats and be done with it.
Guest JMA Posted August 10, 2003 Report Posted August 10, 2003 I'd like for La Resistance to do a promo saying they're really just French-Canadians who wanted to use the French thing to get a reaction. Besides, they've already admitted to being Canadian on Byte This. On an unrelated note, Rene Dupree seems to have a genuine love for the business. Once he gets rid of his greeness he should turn out really good.
Only The Strong Survive Posted August 10, 2003 Report Posted August 10, 2003 La Resistance isn't so bad of a team. Even their snobby We're-better-cause-we're-French angle is actualy a little different and interesting. It's just the fact that they don't do anything interesting. Do they have a finishing move or any signature moves? Not that I know of. Do they have any thing that distinguishes them from one another? I don't think so. Are they anything more besides really rotten hells who use the same tactics as every other heel team before them? Nope. To me, nothing stands out about them, and they don't deserve the tag belts. They should still be working the undercard right now...
Guest JMA Posted August 10, 2003 Report Posted August 10, 2003 Dont you mean other fag gimmick? What?

The Czech Republic Posted August 10, 2003 Report Posted August 10, 2003 Do they have a finishing move or any signature moves? Here's the answer to that, contained in a riddle about the WWE Style: Question: What can be more intense than guy giving his opponent a spinebuster? Answer: TWO guys giving their opponent a spinebuster.
Guest Mulatto Heat Posted August 10, 2003 Report Posted August 10, 2003 Actually, the move seems like more of a hybrid of the spinebuster and the chokeslam, which is even funnier. If I didn't know any better I'd say that WWE is trying to spoof their own style.
Guest undisputedjericho Posted August 10, 2003 Report Posted August 10, 2003 Isn't their finisher the same as Kronik's "High Times" ?
Guest Korgath Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 I wouldn't consider La Resistance a "fad" gimmick. I doubt they got heel heat simply for being French.
Corey_Lazarus Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 They originally did. Then everybody stopped caring about the French view on it, and thus stopped caring about La Resistance.
