The Mexican

finally got round to watching this on dvd, and i thought it was a major disappointment. brad & julia's characters are really unlikeable, it moves at an interminably slow pace, and the 'pure soul/ true love' motif with the firing of the gun towards the end was just puke inducing.

i'd heard this was a sassy road movie/rom-com type deal similar to a life less ordinary, but it's nowhere near as good. james gandolfini as a gay hitman kinda rocks though. anyone else seen this?

I saw it when it came out. I remember thinking that if the movie had been made in the late sixties it would have starred Don Knotts and Goldie Hawn. I marked out when Gene Hackman showed up though.

It's only BAD Pitt movie I can think of...Not counting 7 years In Tibet.

I like the 'Devil's Own'.

I didn't mind 'The Mexican', the only big problem was that it was far too long. I found Pitt's character to be likeable but I hate Julia Roberts.

i thought pitt was okay, but more often than not when his character was pissed he just busted out the watered down tyler durden mannerisms with flopsy hair. performance wasn't consistent and felt like it was just phoned in. it also ran about 20 minutes too long. but the dog was funny.

at least he didn't once try to say himalayas with an austrian accent. i think we can all thank our gods for that.

the way the film comes across to me is of a pretty neat short story which was overstretched into a two hour film. i wish i cared enough to find out if this was the case.

You had Brad Bitt and Julia Roberts...where was the Mexican?

By the way, I, for one, liked 7 Years In Tibet, now that was a good movie if you like drama.

The Devil's Own was terrible. Brad Pitt is a terrific actor but my God his Irish accents suck ass(N.Ireland one in Devil's Own and his allegedly Irish gypsy accent in Snatch).

Also note to the makers of Devil's Own, Belfast in the mid 90s wasn't the bomb ruined, run down, poverty stricken hell hole that it is perceived as in this film.

American film makers can be seriously stupid when it comes to making films set in Ireland. Apparently the streets of N.Ireland are like those in The Devil's Own and in the Republic of Ireland, they are all farmers, they all live in thatched cottages, eat only potatoes, go to pubs straight out of the 19th century and all say 'Top of the mornin' to ya' in their best 'Oirish' accent.
