Guest stardust Report post Posted August 29, 2003 Well, I found out last night that Resnet (they provide the internet to the dorms here on my college campus) has been watching users very closely, and if you're caught downloading music off of places like Kazaa, there's a good chance you'll not only be fined but also kicked out of school. They've even made it so that if you want to use AOL throgh the phone lines, you can't even do that anymore. Basically, if you want internet, it's the campus internet or nothing else. So my question is...is there any way to use programs such as Kazaa without getting caught?
the max 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2003 heh, the only thing I could think of would be to install it, download what you want, and then uninstall it when you're done. Other than that, maybe MP3.com?
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2003 heh, the only thing I could think of would be to install it, download what you want, and then uninstall it when you're done. No, that won't work. There'll still be KaZaa residue left to find even if the program is uninstalled. Honestly, I can't think of anything. If they can catch people using KaZaa, they can probably catch people using P2P software like DirectConnect too.
Guest stardust Report post Posted August 29, 2003 Exactly. It's not a matter of them going in after the fact, it's watching while you're doing it. That bothers me to no end, because what if a friend wants to send me an mp3 p2p through AIM (which often happens) or I download a song off an artist's official site? They weren't very clear on it, just said that we could be in major trouble if we get caught. Why can't I be going to one of the schools that refuses to release the information of students who've been filesharing? *rolls eyes*
Guest I'm That Damn Zzzzz Report post Posted August 29, 2003 Use something like Waste (encrypted network, but you are limited to about 50 people on a network and you have to find people to share with,) or EarthStation 5 (encrypted network allegedly located in a Palenstein refugee camp, they also offer free current movies and porn, but the program leaves much to be desired.) Guest stardust Report post Posted August 29, 2003 Where could I find those? Y'know, it's not like I have like this downloading habit or anything that's some weird sickness or anything, but there are some songs I would really like to download right now, and, yeah, stupid campus is making it hard to do that. Grrrr.

Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2003 With Earthstation5, when you go to download something(using the proxy servers in the security measures of course), all it shows up as is regular website surfing.

Nevermortal 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2003 Alternatively, you could also have someone just download and send the music to you.
Guest stardust Report post Posted August 29, 2003 I thought of that, actually. But just wanted to know if I had any other options.
