Guest Graham R Tripp Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 Who remembers when WWE/F or WCW started naming finishing moves or indeed any move. I remember in 1986 Adorable Adrian Adonis started calling his sleeper-hold "Goodnight Irene" but the WWE/F never really acknowledged it. I suppose Jake Robert's DDT could be the first? JYD's Thump Slam?
WrestlingDeacon Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 As far as giving a move a nickname, Snuka's finisher was known as the Superfly Splash at least as far back as the early eighties and Larry Hennig's clothesline, which was also used by Hulk Hogan, was known as the Axe (Axe Bomber by Hogan) I want to say since the sixties.
Guest MrHell Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 Not Exactly WWE or WCW, but wasn't Johnny Weaver using the "Weaverlock" in the sixties?
PsychoDriver Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 Bobo Brazil had his "coco BUTT" Headbutt in the 60's as well.
