Nevermortal 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2003 Fighting games get so boring after a while. After DOA3, I told myself I'd never buy another one.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2003 Since getting all three systems... here's a list of PS2 games I've bought: Kingdom Hearts Clock Tower 3 on sale Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution Pride FC Deus Ex on sale Half Life 2 on sale (and If I'd have gotten my new computer beforehand...I wouldn't have bought those last 2) Anything that comes out for multisystems puts PS2 on the outs. Insane Bump Machine 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2003 I don't play fighting games either, Street Fighter and Soul Calibur excluded. I included them because they're great games, not because of personal preference.

Half-Life 2? I'd like to see that. Why didn't you buy GTA3 or Vice City?
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2003 I meant Half Life. I did buy the GTA games, but did so before getting an XBox or GC. The list was games I bought for the system since getting all three. Actually I think I had a GC when I bought Vice City...but I know I didn't have an XBox yet. Since getting all 3 I've bought more games for the other 2 systems.

Insane Bump Machine 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2003 ya but most of these games are recycled and banking on the success on the series instead of the original. When has PS2 launched a game that was original PS2 is not a company, it doesn't launch anything. I agree that most great PS2 games are part of a series, but calling games like GTA3, Silent Hill 3, Virtua Fighter 4, Suikoden 3, Dark Cloud 2 or MoH 'recycled' is stupid. The same is true for the other platforms, so I don't really see the point. Almost all Cube games are sequels to existing franchises, same on XBOX aside Halo and KOTOR. Red Baron 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2003 GTA 3 was revamped from GTA 2, but from GTA 3 to Vice City, it was just the same game, instead with 80's stuff. I mean yes I can listen to some bad ass 80's tunes if I wanted too, but I can play GTA 3 and have Devo playin in my CD player, extra bonuses does not make a game original. Final Fantasy continues success because its Final Fantasy. After VII the games really started slacking and produced Graphics > Gameplay. While I did like VIII an X, and despised IX, the overal quality of gameplay is lacking. Yes they did change the foundation of the game, but the title Final Fantasy is only making the game decent, because it is final fantasy. Syphon Filter has gotten crappier after every release...no explanation there. never played Suikoden, Dark Cloud I love to pieces. Silent Hill is just another Resident Evil, but done much much much better, in terms of everything, but its the same story, just like Resident Evil. Halo could follow a Final Fantasy way. You know its going to be a follow up, the covenant is going to be stronger, what other baddies and fun toys you can get. The story would be different, but linear, somethin Final Fantasy Series sorta lacks... KOTOR is unique, its a loose RPG, that you can control the character, and you make the decisions, like Morrowind, but Morrowind is just....out there.
Guest EQ Report post Posted September 6, 2003 For me, PS2 doesn't really have the exclusive titles anymore. Anything that I really want to play (for the most part) will come out on other consoles with better graphics and sound. Smackdown, I don't care for. MGS3 .... come on... we know it's going to be on XBOX eventually, who are we kidding? GTA4 ... see MGS3 Syphon Filter 4... ok, I'll give you that one. I liked the first Syphon Filter game. I played 2, and had fun with it, but got bored eventually. Never played 3, but I'm interested in 4 regardless. Winning Eleven 7... never heard of it. Virtua Fighter ... I'm not a big fan of the series. I'll play it, but I don't like it enough to buy it. Jak 2... this is another one I'll give you. I really liked Jak & Daxter, but I might wait to pick this one up. We all know it will be a greatest hits title eventually. Suikoden 3... I'm not a big RPG person. Disgaea... never heard of it. Ratchet and Clank... doesn't interest me for some reason. Silent Hill 3... see MGS3 and GTA4 Dark Cloud 2... the first game was ok for a little while, but got boring IMO. MoH Rising Sun... never heard of it.
Insane Bump Machine 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2003 MGS3 and GTA4 may be ported to XBOX eventually, but I don't want to wait 6 more months or a year to play either game. My list was also by no means complete, there are still some very promising exclusives in development at the moment. The new Castlevania, SOCOM II, Manhunt, Everquest Online, Gran Turismo 4, Resident Evil Outbreak, Onimusha 3 and the great-looking Ghost Hunter come to mind. Guest EQ Report post Posted September 6, 2003 Resident Evil: Outbreak... hmm... I haven't heard of that one yet. I'll have to look into it. I thought Nintendo had exclusive rights to the RE series. Who knows. Exclusive rights doesn't seem to mean anything anymore. I kind of feel like I'm getting old. A year or two ago, I would check gaming sites/mags every day just to keep myself up to date. Now, I fall behind and I don't know about a lot of games until right before or even after their release.
Insane Bump Machine 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2003 Resident Evil: Outbreak is not part of the official RE series. It's focused on multiplayer and will be played online mostly. Link 1 Link
