HUGE WWWF Title Information revealed...

Recommended Posts

Holy crap. If you haven't ever seen the Buddy Rogers threads at KayfabeMemories.com, you're really missing out as they are an amazing 90 pages of information on a man who redefined wrestling and the era he came from...BUT... some of the biggest info in wrestling HISTORY is being revealed over there right now.

Check THIS out. The pages following this one shed a light on the last (and maybe biggest) secret of Kayfabe.

It brings up a lot of questions about the WWE title and the match between "Rogers" and Sammartino. Check it out, if you have any interest in old-school wrestling you'll be rivetted by the whole story...

There's always a need to speculate with stuff in this biz, but this sounds legit to me.

There's written evidence (The Buddy Rogers record book) that Rogers pulled off this little trick more than once before, and Smoeater over at KM seems 100% legit as a guy who was behind the scenes at Titan at the time (though I won't say who I suspect he is since he seems to prefer it be a secret).

All things considered I'd say the scales are tipping in the direction of legitimacy in this one, and assuming it IS true, its one of the most fascinating stories in wrestling.

There's some information that may shed light to the fact that the man that Bruno beat for the title at MSG in 1963 was in fact not Buddy Rogers but someone made up to look like him.

Basically, like Cawthon said, there's debate now on whether Bruno beat Buddy Rogers or a look-a-like for the WWWF title.

Its been proven (through historical records) that Buddy Rogers has had a double portray him before, so he was able to take bookings in 2 cities at once and make twice the money.

Now its being said that there were at least THREE "Buddy"s in MSG that night: George Drake (who it is almost definite posed as Rogers to take a preliminary blood test- Buddy had angina and a bad back and if the bloodtest revealed his meds he would be unable to compete), John Rhode (Buddy's real-life brother, and the man it is speculated MAY have been in the ring with Bruno for those 47 seconds) and the Nature Boy himself (to prove to the boys and any press that Buddy was in fact there)

Though it doesn't have the far-reaching effects some of the people on KM are claiming it should (title lineage etc) it is really a fascinating story and a testament to those involved for keeping kayfabe for so long.
