Guest Anglesault Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 Who do you hold in a higher regard in wrestling? In other words, what do you think is a bigger win? One over Edge or Flair. Settle this argument.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 Flair is the greatest wrestler of all time. Edge has the greatest teeth of all time.
Guest The Man in Blak Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 Yeah, but Edge was on the same stage with Rob Zombie. So there.
Guest Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 This does not settle the argument in any way shape or form. I was arguing that a victory over Edge for Angle would be just as likely to warrant a main event feud than a victory over Flair for Taker. It had nothing to do with who the Smarks hold in higher regard. C'mon 'Sault. I know it hurts, but THINK, dammit.
Guest Shadow Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 Flair is the greatest wrestler of all time. Edge has the greatest teeth of all time. LOL! Doesn't that honor go to DDP (greatest teeth, not greatest wrestler)? Oh yeah, I picked Flair. I mean, duh.
Guest One Bad Apple Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 Funny how he didn't mention the context of the argument. And I can't believe you created a new poll for this.

How can ANYONE see a win over Edge on par with one over Flair?
Guest Shaved Bear Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 angle needs a fued this is all a HHH conspiracy but we all knew this already
Guest Brian Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 Because Flair's not an active wrestler and doesn't wresttle on a regular basis, plus he's not as young as Edge and hans't beat Angle previously like Edge has.
Guest The Man in Blak Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 Just watch the dancing Brak on Shaved Bear's avatar, 'Sault, and your soul will feel at ease.
Guest Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 Alright 'Sault. Take some guy off the street. Show him a picture of Edge. Show him a picture of Flair. Ask him "Which of these guys would be tougher to beat up?" They would probably pick the young, muscular dude. I'm not saying that every fan would see it this way. But many marks may see it as such. Angle/Edge will probably be better than the world title match so be happy Angle is not in it!
Guest Anglesault Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 hans't beat Angle previously like Edge has. I can kind of see your other points, but this one gets me. Angle would be a #1 Contender because he finally beat that pesky midcarder?
Guest Anglesault Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 Alright 'Sault. Take some guy off the street. Show him a picture of Edge. Show him a picture of Flair. Ask him "Which of these guys would be tougher to beat up?" They would probably pick the young, muscular dude. But that man isn't even a wrestling fan. He won't have a fucking clue what I'm talking about. Now here's one for you. Take a random wrestling fan (mark) and ask them who is harder to beat.
Guest Brian Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 The random wrestling mark has seen Flair wrestle three or four times, and only beat Vince McMahon.
Guest The Man in Blak Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 I don't know - I mean, while Flair was dropping the knee on that can last night, he looked pretty sinister, but I'm not sure if every mark out there really worships Flair so blindly that they would believe that a fifty-year old man could handle it in the ring.
Guest Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 Angle, think about this... RIC F'N FLAIR, or LionHair (like LionHeart, but because of the hair, and the shampoo commercial...huh? Like it?) C'mon. Edge is nowhere NEAR the calibur singles wrestler that Flair is. See, if Flair and Edge fought, Edge would throw up after about 20 minutes. Flair could go for 60 DAYS, not hours, when he was in his prime, assuming this little part of Edge's current career as DDP's long lost cousin (Their aunt was called Teeth) is his prime. But seriously, 17 World Title reigns against 4 IC Title reigns? NO CONTEST!
Guest Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 ::But that man isn't even a wrestling fan. He won't have a fucking clue what I'm talking about.:: I specifically said that not every FAN would see it this way. I simply implied that some MARKS may hold this view. READ the post, dammit! And Angle/Edge will still be better than the world title match. Who gives a damn where he is on the card as long as the wrestling is good?
Guest Anglesault Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 The how come the roof blew off the place when Flair debut in November? The random mark at the very least knows of Ric Flair and his legacy.
Guest Brian Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 I remember in the Taylor shoot where he said that after 45 minutes with Flair, he was about to die and Flair was still ready to go for some more.
Guest The Man in Blak Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 Probably because they realize that he was THE MAN and because he's one of the most recognizable guys from either WCW or WWF history, not because he's a World Title contender in the present. Under that line of logic, if Dusty Rhodes came back, would you honestly take him seriously against any of the active WWF wrestlers? EDIT: Let me clarify "handling it in the ring" - I don't think it's an issue of Flair working or Flair providing a good match, but under the mark ideals, would Flair really be able to handle the punishment from younger, faster, and stronger active stars?
Guest Anglesault Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 ::But that man isn't even a wrestling fan. He won't have a fucking clue what I'm talking about.:: I specifically said that not every FAN would see it this way. I simply implied that some MARKS may hold this view. READ the post, dammit! I DID. You told me to take some random man off the street. Let's say I take my neighbor. He doesn't know anything about Wrestling. Of course he'll pick the muscular young guy. That's not a mark picking the muscular guy. That's a non fan picking the muscular guy.
Guest Anglesault Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 EDIT: Let me clarify "handling it in the ring" - I don't think it's an issue of Flair working or Flair providing a good match, but under the mark ideals, would Flair really be able to handle the punishment from younger, faster, and stronger active stars? This isn't Edge vs. Flair. This is "who has more rub to give someone when they lose to them"
Guest The Man in Blak Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 This isn't Edge vs. Flair. This is "who has more rub to give someone when they lose to them" You're right. And a wrestler's rub primarily revolves around how strong or how good a wrestler is perceived to be. So the argument's still valid - sure, Ric Flair has had many titles, headlined many venues, and brought many crowds to their feet, but right now, he's a non-active wrestler that doesn't have a very convincing record. Hell, you might as well have somebody dragging Bruno Sammartino's ass into the ring and pinning him. Yeah, Sammartino had one of the longest WWF title reigns of all time and he's one of the best ever - but for the love of gawd, he doesn't have any rub to give because his time is done as an active competitor. And so is Flair's.
Guest Anglesault Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 It could also be argued that Edge has NO rub to give
Guest Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 'Sault, I guess we're just gonna have to agree to disagree. Perhaps we can agree that it might not be a bad match, and that a win for Angle won't be a bad thing? (I'm just happy I've gotten you to have a decent argument rather than whining about Angle's treatment and giving emoted belt shots.)
Guest Anglesault Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 It will probably be a good match. I think a win for Angle will mean nothing, really, because that is what's expected. A loss could kill him.
Guest The Man in Blak Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 It could also be argued that Edge has NO rub to give This is also true, but it's a little unrealistic. Edge is an active competitor that people have seen wrestle on a very regular basis. Personally, just the fact that he's active, I'll claim that he's got a little more rub than Flair.
Guest Anglesault Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 Personally, just the fact that he's active, I'll claim that he's got a little more rub than Flair. Would you say Maven has more rub than Flair?
Guest The Man in Blak Posted April 3, 2002 Report Posted April 3, 2002 *thinks about it for a second* It'd be close, but I'd probably say "Yeah". Flair's time in the ring is done and, even though Maven's whole gimmick is playing a total weakling rookie, Maven's still an active guy that people have seen wrestle fairly regularly and win over particular people. Though that's a very nice counter-argument, 'Sault. I just wish you'd address mine or even some of Brian's points for that matter.
