Guest Jay Z. Hollywood Posted September 13, 2003 Report Posted September 13, 2003 I found out, through someone at the CZW fans board that at a Chaotic Wrestling show tonight, Mass indy wrestling star "Hurricane" John Walters, who recently became a regular in Ring of Honor as part of the Purists tag team with Tony Mamaluke, suffered a neck injury aftered taking a DVD on a guardrail. John was carried away by ambulance, the status of his injury is unknown. Man, this is horrible, I've been following John for years through Chaotic, and it was obvious from the get-go he had the tools to be someone big. It was great to see that he was finally getting recognition for it in ROH. Once Chaotic releases some info, I'm going to send out well wishes to him, it would be great if you guys did too, he's one of the genuinely nice guys in indy wrestling.
tpww7 Posted September 13, 2003 Report Posted September 13, 2003 Shit, thats fucking horrible. Maybe we can organize something here for him or something.
Guest DonWestMark03 Posted September 13, 2003 Report Posted September 13, 2003 Yeah, it would be nice if we did something like that- I met John Walters once and he's a super-nice guy. I felt really bad when I heard what happened to him.
tpww7 Posted September 13, 2003 Report Posted September 13, 2003 Well..the story is definetly real. I found these photos...
Guest Dave O'Neill, Journalist Posted September 13, 2003 Report Posted September 13, 2003 Ok, ok, here we go YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-OWCH In fairness though, its partially his fault for agreeing to take that dangerous a move, but i hate the way the indy business has gone when talented wrestlers like John are forced into this sort of crap
Guest Markingout Posted September 13, 2003 Report Posted September 13, 2003 Holy Shit! There was barely anyone there too Get well soon John. I have only seen one Walters match it was pretty good, but I really dont like for anyone who busts there ass for that too happen
Guest Doyo Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 http://chaoticwrestling.com/news.htm An update on "Hurricane" John Walters This past Friday night, an unfortunate accident happened during the show-ending segment between Luis Ortiz and John Walters. After first taking a tombstone piledriver from Ortiz, Walters was hit with a Death Valley Driver onto a steel guardrail. After hitting the guardrail, John could not move, losing all feeling in his extremities. The show was immediately stopped and an ambulance was called, and John Walters was taken to nearby Lawrence General hospital. On Saturday, John was transferred to a larger hospital in the region for more extensive tests. As of Sunday morning, John has regained some feeling in his legs and arms, but how much is not known at this time. We will have more information on John's condition as soon as we receive more news. Everyone at Chaotic Wrestling and the Chaotic Training Center would like to wish John Walters a speedy recovery. For our fans who would like to send get well wishes to "Hurricane" John Walters, we have set up a special e-mail account. You may send them to [email protected], and we will ensure that they are printed out and that John receives them.
Guest Jay Z. Hollywood Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 ^ Bumped this, not sure if anyone saw it.
tpww7 Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 Apparently Walters is working this Sat's ROH show in a neckbrace vs. Xavier.
Insane Bump Machine Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 Apparently Walters is working this Sat's ROH show in a neckbrace vs. Xavier. WTF?
Guest OSIcon Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 Unless the injury isn't nearly as severe as implied, then that doesn't sound like a good idea from any perspective. Obviously Walters risk permenantly injuring himself. Plus I am not sure if its worth it from a match standpoint because how could of a match can you have with a neck brace a week after that serious of injury. Let's hope that Walters is doing a lot better then everyone thinks and the brace is just an added precaution (instead of an absolutely necesary one).
Guest Doyo Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 (edited) Apparently this is a work. According to several people on the forums at http://nei.vze.com/ and http://www.angelfire.com/ri/newa98/entrance.html ,including one of the guys who sells the NEWA tapes, Walters worked the NEWA show the next night. NEWA seems to be cooperating with Chaotic, as they didn't list Walters in their show results. Chaotic Wrestling has got to be out of their minds. Crying wolf like this can only lead to bad things. It would be one thing if they had weekly television and wanted to play this out as a storyline on their tv show. But, running something like this for the 30 or whatever internet nerds that check their website is just plain stupid. Do they really think they are going to sell more tickets? Yeah they got some free publicity. XPW got a lot of free publicity over the last few years, also, and look how much it helped them. It looks like they have worked Meltzer, too. Does Chaotic really think this is going to make Meltzer trust them or give them good coverage in the future? Actually the only part that bothers me is the "John has regained some feeling in his legs and arms" part. If they would have changed that to something like "John suffered a concussion and a broken shoulder and is looking forward to getting revenge on Luis Ortiz", then fine. Throw in some worked injury angles to make the feuds seem more exciting, but don't make us wonder if someone is going to be in a wheelchair for the rest of their lives, because this wondering isn't going to make anyone buy a ticket in 2003. Internet Warfare Posted September 16, 2003 Report Posted September 16, 2003 Apparently Walters is working this Sat's ROH show in a neckbrace vs. Xavier. Damn, This guy sure has some brass ones. He should pull out of the match, ASAP. He already has my respect, he doesnt need to wrestle on saturday.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted September 16, 2003 Report Posted September 16, 2003 you gotta be fucking kidding me. We're running paralysis angles now? wrestling sure has hit the shitter in this country.
Guest Doyo Posted September 16, 2003 Report Posted September 16, 2003 If someone really does break their neck in Chaotic Wrestling now, when they announce it, nobody is going to believe them. The John Walters vs. Luis Ortiz matches and feud have been great. It is too bad they had to throw this paralysis angle into the mix. I don't mind the actual angle that much. But for them to make an "official" announcement on their website about John not being able to move; that just comes off as a desperate cry for attention.
Guest Doyo Posted September 16, 2003 Report Posted September 16, 2003 wrestlingobserver.com --In yesterday's update, the entire John Walters story was a work. They actually copied a story from the Observer with the commentator acting all panicked saying "this wasn't supposed to happen" as if it was an angle gone bad. He wasn't hospitalized, and in fact, worked on a show in Quincy, MA the next night. The angle also didn't get over live as even little kids were laughing at how hokey it came across. To do something like this when you don't have TV, and then to send it on the internet as if it was real just kills whatever credibility the company will have, especially with the poor taste of acting as if he may be in a wheelchair just for a line of pub.
