Mole 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Mole, DVD Club. Yeah, but I can't just watch the episodes every other day. When I watch one episode, I watch another, then another, then one more. And I just watched "Waiting in the Wings," (just shows how fast I watch these damn things) and this episode is so overrated. There is a bunch of things in it that REALLY bug me. 1. "We don't have any money for the dress" crap. BUT, Angel just bought tickets to a ballet, which cost a lot of money. And he happen to get 5 tickets that are right next to each other at the last minute? No, that doesn't happen. 2. Oh yeah, the dress thing. THEY JUST GOT 50,000 DOLLARS from those damn weird guys in "Provider." I know it should be for Connor's college fund, but Gunn says "spending money" and I am sure they can spend some money on dresses. Hell, they just bought tickets to a ballet. 3. Groo and Cordy. Huh? True love? Yeah, they spent like a day together. And a few hours before hand, Cordy was all about Angel. Then when Groo comes about, and Cordy kisses him. Yeah, okay. Slut. 4. When Angel breaks the spell, the ballet dancer goes away. So did the audience just think that was apart of the ballet when she disapears? No, that doesn't make any sense. There is nothing special about this episode. It is just a gimmick episode so Joss could direct people dancing. Great, how nice. The only thing that came out of it was that Gunn and Fred get together, which leads to something huge down the road. But other than that, the episode does nothing. SOO FUCKIN OVERRATED. New grade for the episode, C-. It doesn't get the D because of the Fred/Gunn stuff. Maybe it is just beacuse I am in a REALLY bad mood, but this is the worst Joss' episode ever. Anya 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Fred might have just meant herself and Cordy. Besides, she is used to being poor and probably felt it wouldn't be a good idea to buy really expensive clothing after already spending money for the show itself. Or maybe they didn't want to have Angel pay and were just shopping on their own.
Guest Brian Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Re-watch the Pylea arc. There's a nobility-like quality in Groo that Cordy falls in love with. And the body. But it's not true.
Guest Brian Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Yeah, but I can't just watch the episodes every other day. When I watch one episode, I watch another, then another, then one more. Well, I'm the only one who does that. Rudo works in blocks, and I'm actually going to do the last two Pylea eps tomorrow (with a write-up on that arc). And then on Wenesday, I'll be doing my Season 2 summary. But the schedule is just there. I use it, but it's not necessary. As long as we're in the general vicinity, it doesn't matter. So go watch a chunk of Season Two and we'll discuss it so you can catch up.
Mole 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Re-watch the Pylea arc. There's a nobility-like quality in Groo that Cordy falls in love with. And the body. But it's not true. No, that is bullshit. I HATE it when people fall in love so quickly like that on TV and in movies.
Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 the 2nd ep of the Pylea arc has probably my favorite of the story points that they dropped: The Wolf, Ram, and Hart, books. Why, oh why couldn't they have brought them back up again at least once?
Guest Brian Report post Posted December 5, 2004 But it happens Mole. When people are attracted to certain qualities, physical or not, they will get that feeling. It may not be true, and in this case we know in Season 3 it wasn't. I think she really, really liked the guy, and that was the closest thing she had to love at that point. And in WITW, I think there was a certan bit of nostalgia and romanticism involved, the latter from him going out and searching after her. But I also think at that point there was a certain amount of transferrance, because she was really in love with Angel by then.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Which sucked. The Pylea arch is when Cordy started to become a horrible, horrible character. I have to finish up Season 2 to become sure of it, but I'm pretty sure right now.
Guest Brian Report post Posted December 6, 2004 I'm not saying their relationship didn't suck. But it was fairly reasonable. And it is the point where she starts to get preachy and all.
Mole 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2004 It happens and sucks. Boo to that. I am on "Sleep Tight" right now and everything that Wes does is just so damn sad. Probably my favorite storyline ever.
SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2004 And I just watched "Waiting in the Wings," (just shows how fast I watch these damn things) and this episode is so overrated. Maybe it is just beacuse I am in a REALLY bad mood, but this is the worst Joss' episode ever. Definitely the worst Joss episode. And it was a rip-off of "I Only Have Eyes For You" from Buffy Season 2.
Anya 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2004 Nightmares is the worst Joss episode. It's Amy Acker's birthday! YAY!
LaParkaMarka 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2004 Well, I liked Waiting in the Wings. Even if Gru showing up was retarded. How did he even get into the Angel universe from Pylea? Of course, Gru led to one of the greatest phrases ever: "paranormal prophylactic". PS: Champion Cordy sucks.
SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2004 Nightmares is the worst Joss episode. It's Amy Acker's birthday! YAY! Nightmares was a Joss episode? Meh, my votes still for "Waiting in the Wings".
Mole 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2004 Nightmares is the worst Joss episode. It's Amy Acker's birthday! YAY! Nightmares was a Joss episode? Meh, my votes still for "Waiting in the Wings". Nope, Nightmares wasn't a Joss' episode. It was written by Greenwalt and directed by Bruce Seth Green. And Gru I've found a new liking for Gro, even though it wasn't explained how he got there. His dumbness makes me love him.
Guest Brian Report post Posted December 6, 2004 The Pylea arc was so fucking great for their characters. I got caught up in watching and didn't jot everything down, but Wes just emerges as the man. And I love Gunn in the eps. Just the faces he gives Angel, he sees the beast now. Gunn really becomes the most black and white character in the show, and that noble characteristic is part of what Fred falls in love with, and builds up to Siedel. And Wes is balls on, with him just becoming the leader and the choices he takes for what he believes was the greater good (letting people die). Angel fighting his inner demon, trying to control it. Mole 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2004 The Pylea arc is pretty awesome, I must say. To show how far I am in Angel, I'm on the Connor arc right now for season 3. And even though the Wes storyline is probably my favorite of all time, season 3 might just loose a notch in the season standings. Something about it just isn't holding up. Guest Brian Report post Posted December 6, 2004 Write up your thoughts and save them, since we don't start Season 3 for another week. In the meantime, you can go back and look over Season Two, since we're basically going to be going over that for the rest of the week. Double shot of show reviews today. Guest Brian Report post Posted December 6, 2004 Two shot. Love the opening. Nice little comedy segment, with Gunn and Wes holding up the chains, and running up to the food. Convenient how Lorne knew about the prophesy, though. I love Angel’s reaction, as he’s been running away from the Sanshu all season and it sets up Wes’ ordeal next season. And the mirrors. They’ve been building up to this all season, with showing Angel invisible in the gym mirrors in the opening, the rearview in “Blood Money”, and the restaurant in “Becoming”. I love how they built that up. And Angel showing some shallowness too, in a world that seems to be tailored for him. Nice shade of his character. Not too big on the priests. The family scene is great. Lorne’s been a stud this season when he’s gotten the time. It’s so over the top it’s genius. “Numfar, do the dance of joy.” And I love how Landok treats Angel. The book scene is great if just for the “Wolf, Ram, and Hart”. They needed to explain this more, if Siedel was working with Wolfram and Hart or something, or if Wolfram and Hart was trying to sidetrack them, or if they were working with Jasmine and she broke it off with them. Something. Angel is sure coming along nicely, just as Lorne was saying about how he’s seeing himself in a certain way. Priest and Cordy focused scene not so great. Gunn steals it with the “I told you it was dirty.” Too bad Fred neutered him. And finally all the moral ambiguities catch up to Angel. I love the reaction to Lorne singing. “What sort of sorcery is this?” “It burns, it burns.” Cordy’s starting to grate on me lately. The booty lines were good though. Angel riding the horse. From Judgment. Nice little reference. Psychotic Fred is awesome. I love how she reacts when Angel says they made Cordy into a princess. I like how Groo is introduced, with that ugly limping demon at first. The demon in Angel. Nice how they brought this out also, since they’ve been building it up, from Angel feeding in “The Shroud of Rahmon”, to“Guise Will Be Guise” and then the dark Angel arc. There’s a reflective quality in the way Groo views himself among the others in Pylea that parallels Angel. He seems himself as someone who can’t walk among the others, a beast, a freak, like Angel does in the Earth dimension among humans. In fact, there are also parallels there with Spike as well, since Spike’s got the chip. Cordy may be annoying but she’s fucking hot. I like the following the sun, since it shows that Wes still isn’t the leader. I like that he attacks Gunn, since gunn is the one who shows, that later on, he’s still hasn’t come to grips with him, which will play into the next few seasons. The demon is pure. The Turok-han are the first infected shells. I like how the demon hits at the reflection in the water. It shows that even though there’s some humanity pervading his demon form, he’s still not coming to terms with what he is. Can he truly reform, is there room for him to be saved? That’s what’s real interesting about Season 2 IMO. I like how it all ends with everything in doubt.
Guest Brian Report post Posted December 6, 2004 Next is there’s “No Place like Plrtz Glrb”. I like the little Lorne shocker. I like how the soldier reacted when he heard Angel’s heart was in his chest. “Disgusting.” Maybe it’s just me. Gunn and Baby Jesus~! I love these guys fighting, just going all out and they’re tied up and all. I love psychotic Fred. Just bursting out about tacos. I love Lorne’s head’s reaction to the girl taking off her clothes. His eyes just open and then shoot wide. I love Angel trying to come to terms. He thought that he had already come to terms with the demon, and here he is facing pretty much everything he’s hoped for, and he’s faced with an even greater evil that’s apart of him. I love how Fred is the only one that believes in Angel. That he’s a man and not a beast. Because Angel views it so differently. Here’s this nobility angle that Cordy’s working on with Groo. I like her just tossing around Lorne’s head. Wes is taking charge, shooting ideas out and all. Awesome. And I love his and Gunn’s reaction. Ok, now Cordy’s just throwing around the champ stuff. How many times has he saved the world? I like how Gunn has always been a second hand, that he has the caliber of a leader but doesn’t lead. I like the looks Gunn shoots at Angel. And Fred goes psychotic again. I love how everyone reacts to Lorne’s head except Fred. And the lack of a speech. I love how Wes is willing to sacrifice a few for the greater good. This is the Wes of Season Three who’s willing to risk everything to save Connor. And I love the mock speech he gives to Angel. “Do you really think he’ll come back?” “I need him to think it.” Wes is getting fucking awesome. And Angel controls the demon at the end. Beautiful ending to that story. And Lorne’s right. This show has always focused on finding your place, and maybe the point is that it doesn’t always happen. Doyle, Wes, and Cordy found their place in death. Gunn and Angel had the fight, so maybe they never had a true place. Connor, Fred, all looking for their place in things. And do they have a place? Guest Brian Report post Posted December 11, 2004 Season Two overview. I’ll be going over al the major points and themes of the entire season, and how some things pan out for next season. Three blocks. Here we go: 2.1 Judgment Loneliness: The girl being all alone, without a hero. Angel and the mirror: Walking into the gym, Angel’s reflection is not present. This has to do with both the theme of Angel and reaching salvation, and the fact that he has the demon within. Anyways, the mirror is used a lot this season and this is really the first instance. Angel riding the horse: Comes back up in Pylea. Pregnancy: Not just a pregnancy, but a seemingly mystic pregnancy where the child is protected. Like Connor. 2.2 Are You Now or Have You Ever Been? Loneliness: Another girl, this time alone in the hotel. Angel turning his back: Massively symbolic of Angel later turning his back on the crew. It’s awesome that in the mist of this conversation with Denver, he doesn’t quite understand why he wants to save people. And this from the Thesulac: “See now what happens when you stick your neck out for them? They throw a rope around it!” Denver the shopkeeper: Oh, we didn’t know ye enough. Anyways, he gets a reprise in Reprise. 2.3 First Impressions Loneliness: This all draw parallel to what Angel would go through, running by himself, burdening himself with all these troubles. Sun: Angel and Darla sunbathing, all working towards Pylea. 2.4 Untouched Loneliness: This psychic is just completely alone. Firing: Cordy says that Angel can’t fire them. Bethany’s demon: She doesn’t want to control it, she just wants it gone. What she wants is not to have the power. A lot like Angel’s inner demon. A story of both inner demons and power corrupting, and controlling it all. 2.5 Dear Boy Loneliness: I guess this is all about the first tease of Darla and Angel, and how neither can have each other. Demon: Angel really letting go and wailing on that guy in the Turfog scene. He’s just completely fallen off the radar. Sun: Angel can’t chase after Darla because of the sun, either time. Gunn reminding Kate that Angel can’t enter without an invite was for Epiphany. Angelus: The group not trusting Angel, thinking he’s turned, will work its way in later with Dru calling for “Daddy”. Angel reminding Darla that she will remember all the things she’s done will come out in his story, when he tells Lorne he can’t atone 2.6 Guise Will Be Guise Loneliness: This is about Virginia being isolated from everything else. Wesley becomes Wes: Oh, he’s fucking awesome in this ep. He’s badass and beating people up, and he’s a leader. And he’s also gets some ass. The Car: When they first head into Pylea, they leave the car roof up and Angel almost ends up burning, much like Tish Magev was saying. The Demon: Once again, a vampire with a convertible. Angel being afraid to let loose shows how much control the demon has over him. Female empowerment: In Untouched, Bethany kills her dad. In this, Virginia knocks him out. Reflection: Again talking about it in regards to clothing. Eunuch: Because he’s going to fuck Darla later. Buffy/Darla comparisons: In this ep, they position things as Buffy resulting from transference over Darla, but we later find it’s the other way around it. Gift: When referring to Darla siring angel, which shows up later when Darla tries to get Angel to sire her. The Curse: We learn here the curse isn’t primarily about sex, which leads to Reprise/Epiphany. Sun: Angel still being able to get to Tish without going into the sunlight, but it’s still a boundary. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2004 Sorry, brahs. It takes an investment of time for me to watch Angel, when I watch 1, I usually have to watch 2 or 3. This next week I have 6 exams, and 3 projects due... Pray for Rujo... I'll try to make some time for it, though.
Anya 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2004 In "Touched" when Xander and Anya are having sex on the kitchen floor the FE and Caleb seem to somehow be watching this from their evil underground lair. HOW!? Did the Bringers install a hidden camera during one of the many, many times they attacked Buffy's house? Doesn't FE have anything better to do than watch that anyway?
