Entrance music

Am I the only one who thinks(and cares)that they ruined RVD's and Tazz's music?  Niether of theirs sounds distinguishable from anyone else's now, they're all played by starving wanna-be metal bands(cough, cough, Drowning Pool, cough).  I remember back in the day when you knew who the hell was coming when the music hit.  At least Flair hasn't changed his.

I like RVD's newer music, but I don't like Tazz's.

BTW, am I the only one who's realized the deteriorating quality of the WWF's music in the past year?

The WWF put out an ad a few weeks back looking for a new composer to do original music for the federation.  With that, and the focus of themes being shifted to mainstream music - the days of Jim Johnston are numbered...

I like RVD's. I hate all the new bands that the WWF seems to love torturing us with, but I like RVD's.

Why? Because I liked RVD's first WWF Theme, but it was too quiet. You could barely hear it. This one is the exact same thing, but it's LOUD. There aren't enough loud themes.

I love Motorhead's The Game. Think the quality of music has upped since "HE'S A MAAAAAAAAAAAAAN, SUCH A MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN, HE'S A REEEEEEEEAL, REEEEEEEEEEEEEAL MAN'S MANNNNNNNNNNNN!"

I hated Austin's music when he came back from his injury, I hate Tazz's new music, The Dudleys, I hated Angle's music when they changed it for a brief period, and almost all of the other mainstream music they bring in.  I can put up with RVD's new music but I think it needs something more to it, HHH's song is ok because it was made for his gimmick, and Edge's is ok.

For a wrestler's theme, Motorhead's "The Game" works.

But if you just wanna listen to it as a song? Man, that singing gets annoying fast.

HHH's "the game" song is horrible i don't understand why so many think it's a good song. Wow it was written to fit his lame "i'm the game" routine...big deal the song simply sucks.

It only has two lines and one is repeated over and over AND OVER. Not only that Lemmy's voice is far too annoying now to be making new songs. 20 years ago he had some good songs, but now he sounds like Kermit the Frog.

But i was never much of a "wrestling themes" fan. The only themes i gave a shit about were ECW's. I never liked the generic music that's made in house. I rather them get songs from actual bands. However WWF needs to start doing a better job of picking bands and songs.

Oh yeah and to whoever bitched about it. Like it or not Drowning Pool is more metal then any other genre. They aren't rap/metal so can't be considered "Nu metal". I'm not saying i like them(i'm indifferent); i'm just pointing that out.

Well, if you listen to the song, it has lyrics...Lemmy only sang the words over and over at WM 17....that was just embarrassing.

Dammit, I like Drowning Pool....and I dont give a fuck if you dont.

Ever since the Invasion and Johnson & co. had to come up with a kabillion new themes at once, the quality has been lacking.

HHH's motorhead theme is AWFUL.  His "my time" theme was far superior.  Hmmm...Steph gets to keep the better theme. Coincidence, Im sure.

For some reason I like the Dudleys new theme.

I don't think it had anything to do with the WCW invasion since the WWF's music started taking a down turn in early 2001. It all seemed to start with X-Factor's music.

I miss old entrance music like Mr. Perfect's, Macho Man's graduation theme, Jerry the King Lawler's and even some of the more outlandish themes like HBK's and the Quebecers.

WWF music took a turn for the worst when Taker returned to the tune of American Badass. I'll take catchy tunes like Angle's and Perfect's over main stream music when it comes to the actual entrance of a wrestler.

It seems they're just not trying any longer.

They are, however, trying to sell crappy-ass records.

"Oh yeah and to whoever bitched about it. Like it or not Drowning Pool is more metal then any other genre. They aren't rap/metal so can't be considered "Nu metal". I'm not saying i like them(i'm indifferent); i'm just pointing that out."

My qualifications: I am a musician and have been for the past eleven years. I have been listening to heavy metal for the past eighteen years and have been listening to extreme underground metal for the past eleven. I have written for fanzines and listen to bands that most of you will probably never even hear of. I think this qualifies me to define what is and is not metal. Possibly not. This is just my opinion.

I am going to attempt to make this an unbiased assessment. Personally, I can tell you that I do not care for the band or its music. I am not going to base my judgement on that though. Nu-Metal is a style of heavy music (most likely classified as hard rock) that was ushered in when Korn entered the mainstream consciousness. Korn is not metal either for the record. Rap has nothing to do with the classification despite the fact that a good number of nu-metal bands employ a rapping style in their vocal delivery. The genre is defined by the sound that it possesses. Not the type of songs. The actual sound itself. A lot of the bands share the same sound the way that a lot of grunge bands shared the same sound the way that a lot of hair bands (or glam rock bands if you prefer) shared the same sound. None of those genres belong to metal.

What is metal then? Metal itself is divided into many subgenres. Black, death, grind, doom, gothic, thrash, traditional, progressive, etcetera. I could go on forever. Drowning Pool does not belong in any of these genres.

I do not like the nu-metal tag to begin with as it implies some kind of relationship with metal in general. Ask a metal fan if nu-metal bands belong in their genre and your answer is going to be no on every occassion.

It all has to do with the way mainstream society misinteprets a culture or artistic style which it does not understand. Take punk for example. Ask a real punk what they think of Green Day or the Offspring. His or her answer is going to differ substantially from anyone who watches MTV.

I wish all of these bands all of the success in the world. As a musician, I know how hard it is to make it in this business. Anyone who breaks through deserves it. Just do not call them metal.

I apologize to the board and its members for this non-wrestling related post, but I take my music more seriously then I take my wrestling, and I felt I had to clarify this situation.

I like most of the WWF music, but only because Johnston came up with the beats, and some band put words to it. I love Austin's Disturbed theme because it's so loud and has so many things going on at once. It starts so abrubtly, you think a pack of raptors is attacking your ears. I'm not a big Disturbed fan, but I love that song.

Triple H's Motorhead theme is awesome, too, because it fits his character so well. Yes, the lyrics are awful, but they get the point across, and Lemmy's singing fits the music perfectly. The Drowning Pool version is an okay song, but it would suck as a theme song, unless it was heavily edited to sound better.

I love Rob Van Dam's current theme, although the TV version is better than the Forceable Entry version. The beat just rocks, and I couldn't care less for the words or even whose song it was.

For the most part, I like the hard-rocking themes with good beats, but they do get old unless they're really good, like the afore mentioned ones. I have place in my heart for the cheesier ones, like Angle, Perfect, and Michaels.

You have to admit, though, for the most part, the WWF really knows how to match a song to a guy's personality.

I have to disagree with your assessment, Logan, but with musical generes, its mostly opinion and/or complete and utter BS anyways.  There's always stupid tags, gets on my nerves.

I like most of the WWF's themes.  I don't think it has anything to do with the WWF getting crappy on music, or using actual bands.  I think its because everyone has an opinion.  Some like a song, some don't.  Whatever.

I tend to like the WWF's music.

Benoit's new theme is insanely AWESOME ("Whatever", Our Lady Peace), as is RVD's ("One Of A Kind", Breaking Point). The Hardys' song on Forceable Entry TOTALLY S*CKS, as does Tazz's song... because of Michael Cole's nauseating voice. *wishes Heyman was still an announcer*

Drowing Pool does do good music, but because of their affiliation with the WWF, they always get slammed by wrestling fans.

Why did they change Taker's theme to "Rollin'"? That was a stupid idea. Obviously a decision by Stephanie.

Motorhead's "The Game" rocks totally. It is a damn good song and it fits the HEEL HHH perfectly because of Lemmy's singing, which makes the song sound dark and sinister. Perfect fit... but maybe not for the FACE HHH. ^_^

All in all, Forceable Entry is OK at best. Not an A+... probably a B or B-.

Kane's new theme by Finger Eleven does seem pretty cool, but we'll see.

Would it be that expensive to liscence "Walk" for RVD's theme cause his new theme is awfull.

Motorhead rules no matter what. Lemmy and Flair should party.

My personal musical preferences(punk) would not fit entrace themes. I do prefer old school big grandiose themes that truly fit the wrestlers characters. To.

Drowning Pool(ugh)
