Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2003 This is all stolen from Gamespy or wherever I feel I'll get the best info (unless it's my own running commentary. Instead of seperate commentaries, I wish for everyone to keep stuff that's mention from TGS in here. Also rumors abundant on what the hell SquareEnix's mystery title is: Kingdom Hearts 2, Kingdom Hearts: Chained Memories, Chrono Break (tentative title, it's at least the next Chrono game), Final Fantasy XII or even a side story to Final Fantasy VII on the PSP. Whatever it is, people are flocking to SquareEnix that's all I have to say. And it had BETTER deliver. My own guess, we'll get footage of KH2 and KH:CoM, probably a teaser of CB, and it'll probably be FFXII or FFVII. CORRECTION: As reported on Ansemreport.com Kingdom Hearts 2 Target Dog - Sep 19, 2003 - 6:55PM EST KH fans might not be dissapointed afterall. Quiter has made an announcement, that Square Enix will be displaying an "Image Exhibition" of Kingdom Hearts 2 in one week at the Tokyo Game Show. Although, the rumors of KH2 appearing at the convention have been rampant as of late, news finally comes from a reliable source in favor of the title. What we can expect is that some media of the game will be shown... and it now looks likely than it will be more than a mere poster. So looks like it's either CB, FFXII, or the side story of FFVII that could be the mystery title. Then again, because I'm a dunce and forget that this is also ENIX, there is Dragon Quest VIII (a.k.a. Dragon Warrior) that could also be that title too. This doesn't mean that KH2 isn't that title, but if it isn't it, it more or less could mean that either a) KH2 isn't far enough in development that it can be displayed publicly or b) it's so far into development, SquareEnix just shows us screens and plops a release date on us. But for all the wait, I'm really wondering if it might not be a new title as well. Since you know, why all the secrecy? Anyways, onto the games that matter. Mega Man X Command Mission (PS2) This is one of the few truly new games shown at the event, and it's a surprise. It's an all-new Mega Man X adventure … and it's an RPG with turn-based battles. The graphics are advanced, much more so than the forthcoming Mega Man X 7. The game, from what we were shown, seems to follow a rather typical RPG style -- exploration, battling. You'll control X, Zero, and X7's Axl, as well as new female characters and more. The hope is to bring RPG fans into the Mega Man X universe while keeping its feel intact and pleasing fans of the series with a new type of game. Action touches -- like charge beams and special move attacks -- are being added to the battles to keep them more live for the fans of the action games. It may not sound promising, but it looked more than passable judging from what was shown. Yes, people. No lie. We'll have an upcoming RPG based on Mega Man X. Specifically, X7. It's of course, from the pre-TGS so not much was really SHOWN, but from the pics, and stuff. It's pretty alright. Another one that looked interesting is Crimson Tears. Info provided below. Crimson Tears (PS2) This game is looking super-stylish and interesting. Get yourself ready for this 2004 title as of now. It blends excellent cel-shaded anime character designs with action-based, dungeon-exploring gameplay. The cinemas are also quite hot-looking, using highly detailed cel-shading for the characters. It appears that you'll take these advanced warriors, described as "biological weapons" -- genetically engineered soldiers, essentially -- down into dungeons and explore and kill monsters. While that sounds slightly foreboding (repetition, much?) it's a very promising looking title going on what little details there are yet. Nice looking cel-shading. Albeit, it was only two pics, it still was nice to see. Probably the first cel-shading game that I went "damn, that looks good". Next on the list of games that is interesting is ... Onimusha 3. And NOT for the good reasons. Onimusha 3 (PS2) Much more has been revealed about Onimusha 3 than since previous press events. The story remains unchanged from what you've heard: a cop from modern-day France, played by Jean Reno, is transported to feudal Japan as Samanosuke, the hero of the first game, is transported to contemporary France as it's being invaded by dark forces. This fusion of old and new is an exciting new theme that will help the team show off the true feelings of Onimusha, or so Inafune maintains. The game has changed entirely to 3D backgrounds, and not only that: it seems that there is a lot of action-based gameplay dealing with the environments, making it more than a cosmetic upgrade. Jean's whip is so different from Samanosuke's sword that Inafune feels switching between them almost feels like playing two different games. There was also a brief clip showing gameplay featuring an as-yet unnamed blond female cop. The opening movie, shown for the first time at this event, is incredibly slick and features incredible-looking CG work. ...I'll leave that up to you to debate... As I'm going "uh...." to the above. Yes, there was more, but I'm just taking what I felt was the most important for discussion. If you wish to bring up the other games, then by all means do so. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2003 I figured Onimusha 3 would be more like Devil May Cry. Unless Square makes a good Kingdom Hearts or Chrono sequel (KH was good, I didn't like Chrono Cross), fuck them. However, as of now the FFVII sequel rumor has been officially squelched. The Mega Man X RPG was already mentioned in the Collection thread. Crimson Tears could be good, but they don't even tell you what the hell genre it is. 3rd/1st person hack 'em up? Firstly, I said a side story to FFVII. Not a sequel and for the PSP. Also KH2 should be a good sequel. As I doubt Disney would want some dipshit sequel (thinks about recent Disney sequels). Oh fuck... The real problem is all the mystery. WHY? What's so important for the all the secrecy? Well we are about to find out. I'm guessing a new title though. I mean, all the secrecy would only make sense. Didn't know that MMX:CM was already talked about. Still though, it was one of the ones I figured should be mentioned. And Crimson Tears is hack'em up. It's an action/adventure game last I looked. As for Onimusha, I'm not particular fond of the idea they are running with as I can't see it working. If it works, kudos, but I can't see it making fans want it.

NYU 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2003 I can't understand the fascination with turn-baed RPG games. I find them unbelievably boring and frustrating. "Here, computer, you attack me and then I'll attack you. Wait....my attacks are only taking away 2 units of your power.....and your attacks are taking 40 units from mine....oh, shit, I lost. How the fuck do I win ?" - If you don't build up your stats enough in RPGs, and sometimes it's really difficult to, you'll wind up getting to the point where it's impossible to win. At least with Kingdom Hearts, with enough skill, you can get past some of the stronger enemies - even if your level isn't too high. That being said, making Mega Man an RPG game is a perfect way to fuck up the series. Mega Man is an action game and, by using this ridiculous turn-based system, you're alienating the entire idea behind the whole series. Oh well.... Kingdom Hearts 2 !! AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2003 Flik: No sweat--at least you had more info on the Mega Man X RPG. Turn based = the ghey though. What was wrong with Battle Network style? It TB RPG just doesn't fit the series. The idea for a "side story" of FFVII starring the Turks has been rumored, but I think it was all bull and the movie is throwing a bone. Although that could be a good idea.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2003 Ok. Onto MMX:CM. If it's turn based, it'll impliment ATB. What Final Fantasy is known for. That isn't TOO bad, but yah, I know what you mean. Excuse me, but um, to the doubters of Mega Man as an RPG, may I point out that Mega Man Battle Network IS an RPG (by much a fluke of luck, still though). And it's very well liked, so maybe we'll get lucky and it actually is good. At least with an RPG, a Mega Man story will get a little fleshed out. As for Kingdom Hearts battle system, it actually had it all. If you were great at dodging and countering, you could be underleveled and still kick ass. If you wanted to tank it, just needed to make at the beginning of the game you put Defense as your priority. Only downfall of the battle system was the menu (which I bet they keep). As for the side story, it would only make sense if it was the story of the Wutai vs. Midgar really. We'd find out a little more history. And if you did that, you'd have to find out more about the Turks (who originally were founded during that time). I think. Still though, that side story is probably the movie. Just someone was given misinformation about it. And about the only way I'd buy that movie is if we got the final battle of Sephiroth vs. Cloud. No, not that cheap ass do Omnislash and over, but a TRUE final battle. The judgement of humans. That's what I always took that as. Sephiroth wins, we all die; Cloud wins, the world let's you live, but you've been warned. Then we carry on from that would be worth the purchase. ...however, it'll never go stateside. Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2003 Just read on Gamespot that FFXII will be out in Japan November 19th this year. Meaning the game has been worked on for a hell of a long time. Weirder yet, from the looks of www.ff12.com, and watch the video, it's clearly a technology bound world. Which brings to question: how much old fashioned fantasy will there be in this one? Edit: To those of you who love King Of Fighters, you'll get a new game. SNK says they've got one in production. It'll be King of Fighters 2003

Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2003 Kof 2003 has been in talks for quite a while now, but so far the logo is the only footage A screenshot of the 3d kof is out somewhere too. *sighs* Here. Read this then. SNK Playmore confirms a title for the next arcade King Of Fighters and briefly discusses a new game in the series under development for the PlayStation 2. From its stage at the 2003 Tokyo Game Show, SNK Playmore briefly discussed the future of the King of Fighters series. As announced by Sammy back at the AMShow earlier this month, SNK Playmore will be developing the next King of Fighters arcade game for Sammy's Atomiswave hardware. That game only had a working title then, but at the Tokyo Game Show, the title has indeed been confirmed as The King of Fighters 2003. The company also showed off a short trailer for a new game in the King of Fighters series that is being developed specifically for the PlayStation 2. The trailer didn't show any gameplay, but instead focused on lines of dialogue from some of the game's new characters, who were shown in a cutscene-style pre-rendered polygonal form. This game is currently known by the working title of KOF, and it appears that the game will be a 3D fighter. It will be released sometime in 2004 So I'm mistaken on it being called King of Fighters 2003. Yet it'll be out on the PS2 sometime next year.
