Guest Posted April 4, 2002 Report Posted April 4, 2002 I never read either of Foley's books and I'm getting ready to finally order his first book off Amazon. Is it worth it to get Both or does "Have a Nice Day" pretty much sum up most of his career?
Guest TheHulkster Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 I have both. It's very hard to put down Have a nice day. Foley is good is pretty good, but not as good as Have a nice day. Still a good read.
Guest Anglesault Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 HaND probably covers it, but FiG is an easier read.
Guest hockeytown9321 Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 Foley is Good covers everything after his 1st WWF title win. The second half is Foley defending the WWf product against the PTC.
Guest notJames Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 The first one delves into the bulk of his wrestling career... when he first started, his gory days in Japan, his god-awful run in WCW, etc., right up to just before he won the belt for the first time. (I think) This is for the hardcore Foley fan. The second is the remainder of his career, plus a lot of tangents on different things, like his views on censorship, his relationships with certain people, his 10 favourite amusement park rides, etc. This is for the person who is intrigued by Foley the Elder Statesman. It shows off just how smart and insightful Foley really is. The writing itself in both books will draw you in immediately. it's just a matter of what you want to know more of. I picked up both and they were both excellent in their own right.
Guest The Man in Blak Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 Have A Nice Day covers much more of his career, while Foley is Good has much anecdotes and stories and such. I'd recommend Have A Nice Day in a heartbeat.
Guest Choken One Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 Have a Nice Day is a top quality book and only took me about 2 1/2 hours to read and is very entertaining, almost designed exclusivly for The Smarks, while FiG is more directed toward younger fans 10-14 whom are intimidated by the size of Have a Nice Day. Read both of them and it'll only take about 4 hours.
Guest Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 Have A Nice Day it is!!!!! btw, H.A.N.D is the book where he talks about the Rock being Green and smashing him with the Chair at the Rumble right?
Guest RetroRob215 Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 Have A Nice Day is the better book. Foley is Good is OK, but he bitched too much about that censorship group. I forgot their name, shows the kind of Smark I am...
Guest Shaved Bear Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 one night i said to myself, im gonna start reading HAND and then go to sleep and continue tomorrow, i didnt go to sleep though never read FiG
Guest y2jailbait Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 Yeah, Have a nice day was on the same level as pure dynamite by Dynamite Kid on detail on "dirt" within the business. But Foley is Good kinds draggs and cant really keep you interested till the end. Plus he goes into this tyraid about the PTC for like ever and it really wares ya out. But the first 4 chapters in Have a Nice Day are good for your mainstream readers, as in it has less wrestling and more life experiences in it. Plus hes an awesome story teller.
Guest chirs3 Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 I've read both. If you're just a casual Foley mark, go for "Foley Is Good". If you want a play-by-play of his early life and career, go for "Have a Nice Day". Personally, I enjoyed "FiG" more... especially the "Selling Chairs" joke.
Guest RetroRob215 Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 From the wrestling books I've read, this is how I would rank them. 1. Have A Nice Day 2. Pure Dynamite (I wish it were a little longer though) 3. Foley Is Good
Guest J*ingus Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 I personally liked Have A Nice Day better, as it had many more stories about Foley's career and wrestling in general. Foley Is Good tends to be just Mick ranting on whatever he felt like talking about. Other highly recommended books: Pure Dynamite by Tom Billington, Hooker by Lou Thesz, Blakwidow by Amanda Storm.
Guest Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 I've only read the first one. I wouldn't care if the second one was a pile of s**t with Foley engraved on it I'd still buy it. Why haven't I? Nobody cares...but honestly I haven't got around to it. Just for interest: Has it come out in paper-back yet in the U.K.? My first one's in paperback so it'd be good if they matched! (Cheaper for poor people like me too!)
Guest muzanisa Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 HAND covers his career upto his first winning the WWF title (or maybe the last time he won it.) He actually says at the end if you want to read about the Rock's win buy his damn book. FIG does cover it and brings us upto date on his relationship with the Rock Spolier They're friends (Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh) Both are good and should be available from your library. Why not try before you buy?
Guest Pidgerii-4q2 Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 Have a Nice Day - autobiographical Foley is Good - anecdotal Both worth reading if you love the business. Stay away from Rock's and Chyna's books = suckiness
Guest Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 I was gonna buy "Pure Dynamite" last year but then I read a lot of the book is total bullshit. He contradicts himself a lot and he's really bitter. I remember from one of the Bret Hart RF Shoots he says something about how Dynamite said Bret No-Sold or screwed up a match with Abdullah The Butcher and Bret Hart has never even wrestled Abdullah.
Guest What?! Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 If you're a big Foley mark like me, then buy them. Of course, if you were as big a Foley mark as me, then you would've already had them and read them both.
Guest Posted April 5, 2002 Report Posted April 5, 2002 I liked "Foley is Good" better, Maybe because I read it on a long car trip to Ohio so it killed time. "Have a nice day" was slow at many parts but still a great autobiography.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted April 6, 2002 Report Posted April 6, 2002 Spoiler of what the very last line in HAND is: the last line in HAND is Foley mentioning that he lost the title at the royal rumble and just kind of stops suddenly there. Haven't read FIG
Guest TripleHsmark Posted April 6, 2002 Report Posted April 6, 2002 There is much more to his career in Have a Nice day, but you can really see how much his writing has improved in Foley is Good. I prefer Have a Nice Day because it covers his entire career, and has some amazing stories. Foley is Good is a nice, fun read.
Guest Shawn Posted April 6, 2002 Report Posted April 6, 2002 I haven't read Foley Is God but I did get Have A Nice Day and it's my favorite book thus far. Any wrestling fan should check that out.
