Nova signs with the wwf

Recommended Posts

Why would anyone sign with the WWF?  They are horrible with pushes, unless you have lots of prestige to your background, even then it isn't a sure thing.

Nova has never impressed me I just don't find him entertaining.  (I'm not going to sya he's a bad worker as I've never worked with him and never will)

He worked a good match with Doug Williams soon after ECW folded. Then again I've never seen Doug Williams have a really bad match with anyone but there was Psychology, pacing and not even a lot of high spots.

I don't really care one way or the other about Nova, he was good in the bWo - but I don't think he's that good.  But Doug Williams is a guy the WWF should look at, he's one hell of a Wrestler, he's good on the mic and he'd fit right in with the WWF's current mid card.  Him and Alex Shane should be in the WWF right now.  But the WWF won't sign either since they don't seem to like any Wrestlers who aren't from the USA or Canada.

I probably should start a new thread with this, but why does everyone name all these Indy stars, and wish they signed with the WWF?  It's bad enough that all the major feds got snowballed together, why do we want to rape and pillage the Indys too?

I'm just a bit frustrated with the WWF talking about wanting to expand into Europe but never signing up anyone new from Europe.  Doug Williams and Alex Shane really deserve a shot at the WWF but the only reason that they haven't got a shot is because they are from the UK.

-Alex Shane is 6'7, has great mic skills and he's a great Wrestler.  If he was from the USA then he'd be in the WWF right now, no doubt about it.  But because he's from the UK he isn't getting his shot.

-Doug Williams looks like someone who could make it in the WWF, he can carry anyone to a good match, he's got great mic skills and he's recieved praise everywhere he's went.  But for some reason the WWF hasn't looked at him once.

These aren't young high flyers like you usually hear about when someone talks about a great Indy Star, these are guys who could be a legitimate threat in the WWF right now.

EDIT - Well I completely missed the point of your post.  But the UK indy's will survive.  I'd actually hope the WWF took some of our talent then maybe i'd get a chance!!  But seriously, a lot of the guys that I train with have the potential to be big stars over here and in the US.  But they won't get the chance over here because there's way too much talent and they'll never make it in the USA because the WWF don't look twice at any talent outside of the USA and Canada.  The only hope for the guys over here is to get booked on some Japanese shows, but they won't get a chance there unless they make their name in the UK first.

I have nothing against Nova, and wound up liking him more often than not when he was in ECW. I'd rather see Kash, Corino, or Jett, but I don't mind him getting a shot at the big time.

the comment on UK wrestlers not getting signed is ridiculous.

Regal, Bulldog, Billington, the luchadores in '97, the minis, the samoans... if someone is good, the wwf will sign him, doesn't matter where he's from.

If Nova teamed with Hurricane... would we truely have Novacane?

Oh man! That joke had me laughing my head of!!! Oh ho ho ho! ;)

Anyone notice my bad joke or what? C'mon...

if someone is good, the wwf with sign him

You see Mike Modest in the WWF? You see Any of the other numerous talents that people talk about in the WWF? No aside from the occaction Jakked, House Show or Dark Match job.

Nova was the local champion in Westland, Michigan.  I went to three shows just to boo the loser and was happy to see him leave.  And aside from myself, I was told that the number of people at shows with Nova was less than the number of people at shows without him (at this local fed).  If he couldn't affect the attendence of a local show, how is he supposed to draw in the WWF?

We are forgetting the concept of Cruiserweights in WCW and WWF

WCW Cruiserweights Primary Luchardors, had Spot matches sometimes Luchador 10 man tag teams where they just threw them in to do spot after spot and not even tag out, just keep the train running, Cruiserweights didn't need to much personality, because they used what they can do in the ring to speak for themselves

WWF Smackdown Primarly, you got a Few Cruiserweights left. Helms, Funaki, Crash, Tajiri, Kidman, Now Nova, Perhaps Rey Mystero, each one the WWF will want to develope their personalities out. Mostly because the WWF probably will not allow some of the moves to even be used as we seen on WCW when they actually let the Cruiserweights go, as well as ECW Japan and Elsewhere. So will see, but it is gonna be alot different than what your fond memories of a Juvi Guerrera vs Kidman match in 1998 was.

well, if the cruisers don't succeed then the ban on certain moves ain't nothing to do with it. WCW cruisers were strong becaus it was somewhat a different leaugue of its on back in '97/'98. Kidman, Ultimo Dragon and the othrs had semingly no gimmick nor interaction with the main eventers and midcarders. They wrestled, spouted some catchphrase here and there but really had no big angles.

In the WWF Kidman will be a jealous bitch. Nova will be a superhero. Misterio, if he signs, will be a mexican robber. Funaki and Taka will be comedy acts.

my only hope is that malenko books the thing and vetoes stupid angles.

He doesn't want to work for the WWF because he's dumb.  I'm not sure why you want another Stevie Richards when you aren't using the one you have.

This I feel is an ignorant statement.

Sometimes, it's NOT best to sign with the WWF, as A.J. Styles is asserting even now.

Corino could sign with the WWF, probably for a low paycheck and a high number of work dates.  Plus they would essentially run every aspect of his career.

OR....

He could remain unsigned, and work as many indy / Japan dates as he wishes, probably for a decent amount of money, and basically have total control over the course of his career.

Which would you rather do?  For him, it's the better choice NOT to sign.  Keep in mind, he's also very close with his young son, and the last thing he wants to do is sign himself away to virtual slavery with the WWF, where he'd barely get to see his kid.  Remaining a "free agent" is what's right for him right now.

I just never liked Nova.  It seemed like all his innovative moves were just a few dozen variations on the same three or four basic moves.

Or, to put it another way, you know how last year, suddenly it seemed like every other wrestler in the WWF used some neckbreaker variation as their finisher?  Regal, Chyna, Big Show, Hurricane, and a few others all used them.  And in the end, ALL of them were just neckbreakers where the arms were positioned somewhat differently.  That's how I feel about Nova.

I predict Nova will have a somewhat lousy year and then will go *train young lions* in some of the wwf territories.

The Bulldog & Billington only got signed because they were working in Canada.  They were working in Stampede and the WWF brought Stampede out and took their Wrestlers on.  Regal was just a one-off, which British Wrestlers have been signed since him?  The luchadores were signed by WCW, not the WWF.

Alex Shane & Doug Williams should be signed by the WWF right now.  They can put on great matches, they have great promo skills and they have the right ring presence to make it big in the WWF.  If they were working in America then they would be in the WWF right now, no doubt about it.  I could name two of Cruiserweights in the UK who should be in the WWF too - Jodie Fleisch & Jonny Storm they are two great Cruiserweights, better than Kidman, better than Rey Misterio (get Revival Wrestling 2002 on video and watch the match they have with each other) because they can put on matches that have high-spots AND psychology.  But they won't get their shot.

Alex Shane is out for about a year unfortunately. I agree that he could be in the WWF but I'd prefer to see him as the finished article first. I don't think he's quite there. Doug Williams is great and I can see him in there. Jonny and Jody are both stunning cruiserweights; but if you ever get Mexican wrestling or Japanese junior heavyweight matches or American Indy's then Jonny doesn't stand out quite as much and Jody isn't quite as original in his moveset as first appears. There are other guys who do the springboard off the top rope into the Shooting Star Press and a few of his other signiture spots. Never seen anyone run the wall like he does though.

Personally I'd rather UK wrestling get on TV in the UK. The WWF is crowded and I could see anyone who got signed get lost in the Shuffle. If they were on TV in Britain they could  refine their act, become household names and get used to the attention and due to British Wrestling having it's own unique style in the same way as AAA,NJPW,AJPW and the garbage promotions are all different, it would be nice to have an alternative to the McMahon monopoly.

The guys that you mentioned plus others like Ulf Hermann, the New Breed and Gary Steele could all be Superstars without going to the WWF.

With the glass ceiling and overabundance of main eventers in the WWF what's the point ofsigning more talent; unless you have definite plans?

Jodie Fleisch is a great Cruiserweight in my opinion.  Did you see the match at Revival?  The clipped version was amazing and I can't wait to see the full match because from the sounds of it, it could be a MOTY Candidate.

I do hope that British Wrestling gets on TV in the UK, but there are many young Wrestlers waiting to get a break (I know, I train with a lot of them) and they need some room to break through, at the moment there are a lot of young Wrestlers, but not enough spots for them.  I know some guys who have been ready for about a year but haven't even got booked in one match yet.

Maybe if the company that ran Revival could get a regular TV spot then things could take off, but it's looking unlikely and I wouldn't really want the FWA to be the main company over here because they are too Sports-entertainment orientated.  The WAW are ok, but they have recently got a deal to become a Developmental Territory for the WWF which would mean that if they got on TV then we'd be looking at a promotion which just push the WWF guys to the moon and the UK guys would get nowhere.

I think that Doug Williams and Alex Shane could do well in the mid card in the WWF.  Jodie Fleisch and Jonny Storm could be important to the WWF Cruiserweight Division.

Nova suplied me with one of the greatest "mark out moments" in my history of watching Pro. Wrestling. Yes, the awesome/cool as hell...

DDT/Stunner/Leg Drop combination to three guys at one time!

...if that has a name, let me know, and I sure as hell would love to see that again!

When did Nova do that

The thing is, is that the WWF is running a company and, as well as good workers, is looking for bankable gimmicks or good mic work. Nova's larger than life superhero gimmick got him over in ECW and he has been a recipient of a lot of exposure. However, with Lynn being less of an obvious character the WWF has no idea how to push him.

I was at Revival and the Ladder Match is a lot better than what was shown on Bravo.

I like the FWA, the only choices I have to watch are them or All Star, with James Mason and the old style booking. I've never heard of the WAW. Is there anywhere to buy tapes from?

I don't think that all developmentals just push the WWF guys as OVW and HWA seem to balance it quite well.

Anyone who gets a TV deal will get all the best UK talent so the only difference will be in the booking.

I think the reason why British talent hasn't really been used by the WWF is because British big men are generally pretty poor. Giant Haystacks got a run in WCW as Loch Ness and tanked yet he is probably regarded as the best big man of all time along with Kendo Nagasaki by UK marks.

Fit Finlay works as a road agent in the WWF.

I think historically the only UK wrestler that the US missed out on big time was Rollerball Rocco who was the first Black Tiger in Japan, and maybe Rob Brookside, who did get a very short stint in WCW.

Of the current crop that I've seen everyone who's been mentioned plus Gary Steele and the German Ulf Hermann would fit in the WWF but not necessarily ahead of the current developmental guys and US indy workers.

Williams can't offer anything that Eddy,Benoit and Angle haven't got.

Fleisch is the only jaw droppingly good British talent out there who can bring something new to the WWF IMO.

Cripes....I didn't think there'd be that many Nova haters on this board.

I for one would mark out like a lil' beeyatch seeing Nova on TV, Metal, Smackdown, it matters not. I'd much rather see him working a 5 minute spotfest with RVD or Jeff Hardy rather then a boring ass 25 minute HHH promo or a 6 man tag featuring Kane and some dudes vs the nWo. Sure, there's no real substance but it looks pretty. When has the WWF been about substance, really?

If anybody here is saying Nova should be on Smackdown with the cruisers, did you watch him during his last month in ECW? The guy either hit the gym or the juice (maybe both) because he got crazy buff. I'd like to see him on RAW, perhaps in programs against Eddy G, Lesnar, D'lo or RVD. Yummy.

WAW aren't too good in my opinion, they had Jake The Snake Roberts for a while and he put on some good matches there, supposedly - I didn't see them.  Anyway at www.waw-uk.com you can find out about their videos.

Are they bringing out a video of Revival?  I want to see the unclipped Fleisch/Storm match.

I think Williams can bring more to the table than Eddie and Benoit because he has great mic skills.  I remember when I first seen him (BWA in Middlesbrough in 1998) and he was the only guy on the card who managed to get any real heat on the whole show.  He should be in the WWF right now IMO.  Alex Shane can definatly bring more to the Table than some current developmental guys, I mean he's 6'7 and he can really work for god sake.  How many 6'7 guys does Vince McMahon usually miss out on?  Not many.

I think historically the only UK wrestler that the US missed out on big time was Rollerball Rocco who was the first Black Tiger in Japan, and maybe Rob Brookside, who did get a very short stint in WCW.

I don't know much about Rollerball Rocco... but Robbie Brookside was in WCW?  When?  I used to think he was a great Wrestler, I recall something about him in WCW.  What year(s) did he work in WCW?

Giant Haystacks got a run in WCW as Loch Ness and tanked yet he is probably regarded as the best big man of all time along with Kendo Nagasaki by UK marks.

Loch Ness, he was in the Dungon of Doom right?  I didn't know he was Giant Haystacks.  I never thought much of him as a Wrestler anyway, him and Big Daddy were never great Wrestlers, but they were good at getting the crowd into a match.  In the UK anyway.

Wasn't Haystacks from the 50s? And who was Rob Brooksdie?

Steve Coino, in my opinion plays an extremely good heel far better than Richards and his in ring work is underated. He needs to bulk up a little, perhaps but he has the base of a huge star. Plus, no one on the continent bleeds like him.

No Corino is not near a good a heel as Richards. Richards plays a goofy guy and a serious guy to perfection. He also rights some good articles in the WWF magazines.

I don't really have a problem with WWF signing Nova, as I don't see what everyone has against him, except for his claims that everyone steals his moves. But what happened to the interest in Super Crazy or Simon Diamond? I'd much rather have either one of them as opposed to Nova.

When did they have intrest in Simon and Super Crazy? Because I would love to see them both in the WWF.

Page 17 of wrestling Observer

Dawn Marie Psalitas (ECW Valet) signed over the past week, as did Mike Bucci (Nova).

17????? Damn how pages does it have every week? And did Nova a developmental deal or a regular deal? Is he going to OVW or HWA for a little or anything?

Well, in my opinion, the character of Steve Corino while a heel (before he morphed during the feud with Dusty Rhodes) was very derivative of the "Dancin'" Stevie Richards goofy heel flunky.  Corino did manage to take his character and evolve it past that point, but so did Stevie.  I think Stevie's a better talker, but injuries have made him a worse worker than Corino is right now.  An advantage for Corino, though, is that he pretty much works a WWF style match already with a load of brawling and a few signature moves.

And how well a guy bleeds really doesn't matter in the WWF unless he gets to the main events since the rest of the card doesn't get to blade that much.  And Corino really doesn't have 'main eventer' stamped on his forehead.
