Bored 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2003 Man that 1997 show had a nice groove until the final 3 matches Last three matches? Okay here are the recaps. Recaps by John Petrie (he sucks but can't find any others for this show): RAY TRAYLOR vs. SCOTT NORTON (w/ Vincent) They show Traylor getting his ass kicked last week. The ref then looks on dumbly as Traylor fights off an attack by Vincent. As I mentioned last week, Traylor looks like hell. I've never seen him as overweight as he currently is. Norton wins this one after Vincent sprays Traylor in the eyes with black spraypaint. Norton covers for the pin. Post-match Traylor, "half blind", attacks Norton and Vincent. Konan, Hennig and Scott Hall run in to assist in the gang beating of Traylor. WCW cuts away from this potential homicide to run a DDP/Savage promo. LEX LUGER vs. BOOKER T. (w/ Jacquelyn) You know the standard Luger match: Luger takes 99% of the punishment, "Hulks up" and applies the Torture Rack. I guess Lex decided he wasn't being allowed to look awesome enough, because this time around he slipped in a few offensive moves before his usual comeback. As Luger tries to put Booker in the Rack a fan in the background can be seen hoisting a friend of his up in the Rack! Everyone around them watches as the guys is bouncing up and down in the Rack. Funny stuff. Luger eventually does get Booker into the Torture Rack for the win. SCOTT HALL vs. SCOTT STEINER (w/ Ted DiBiase) Poor match. Two-thirds of it consisted of the two trading restholds. Steiner did a nice belly-to-belly suplex near the very end. Hall eventually knocks out the ref (who had very clearly and obviously moved into position to get knocked out). Steiner gets Hall with a double- underhook suplex, but no ref. Hall then puts Steiner in the Outsider's Edge. In comes a black referee (presumably Vincent-the only black member of the NWO) wearing a black hood with eye holes, to make the three count.
Bored 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2003 Bret Hart def. Goldberg to win the United States Title Recap please. How many times has Bret beaten Goldberg (including the Washington screwjob) anyway? Four? Five? CRZ recap: BRET CLARKE v. COLD BEER in a first round tournament matchup (Group 1) and also for the United States Heavyweight championship - Hart with a Savage limp to the ring. I think if Goldberg wouldn't be inhaling all that pyro smoke, he probably wouldn't make all those weird faces while walking to the ring. Entrance is (2:54). Lockup, to the corner - clean break. Lockup, to the ropes, Goldberg with knees in the gut - whip attempt is reversed, so Goldberg runs over him instead. Press slam into a Meltdown. Hart claws to the corner, then punches away on Goldberg - Goldberg punches twice as fast. Single leg takedown - anklelock on the broken ankle - Hart grabs the ropes almost immediately. Clean break, Hart goes outside. After a pause, he's back in. Lockup, Hart takes him to the corner - right, right, right, right, Goldberg with an elbow to the top of the head. Right hand from Goldberg. Goldberg wrenches back on the bad leg. Kick to the gut, kick, kick, grabbing the bad leg - pulling him into the center. "Ask him!" Referee "Blind" Mickey J. asks him - Hart says not yet. Goldberg to the leglock - Hart refusing to submit. Goldberg lets go and asks the ref again if he'll stop the match. Nope. Goldberg with a kneelift. Whip into the corner hard. Another whip - and Hart's leg buckles. Again he asks J. to check on Hart - who refuses. Goldberg going for the spear - but Hart puts his right leg up to block it. Now throwing elbows - sleeper applied! Goldberg backs him into the turnbuckle - but Hart holds on as he walks out! Goldberg snapmares him over to break the hold - but Hart lands on the ref! Goldberg dumps Hart over the top rope to the floor - and Hart goes RIGHT to the bad leg. Here's the OUTSIDERS and SID VISCOUS. Goldberg does all right until Sid is in with a big boot. Hall hits his chokeslam but fails to imitate the Giant afterwards. Sidewalk slam from Nash! Vicious with a powerbomb. Everybody scatters. Bret Hart, having seen none of this (suspend your disbelief with me, come on!) slowly gets in the ring - Mickey J., also come to, sees the cover and counts - 1, 2, 3!!!! Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new United States Heavyweight Champion - and we're so out of time that the announcement will have to wait! (7:52)
Bored 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2003 Kidman v Rey in a time limit draw would have been rather cool. CRZ recap: (billy) KIDMAN v. REY MYSTERIO, JR. for the WCW World Cruiserweight Championship - nice pop for Rey as he makes his second return from that knee injury. Kidman has new music which isn't as cool as his last music - well, my opinion. This should be hot. Commentators are actually going to call it at the start, too! Lockup, to the rope, switch, break. Mysterio ducks another lockup attempt and puts on a waistlock. Standing switch. Kidman takes him to the mat and keep the hold on, Mysterio counters with an arm bar - Kidman gets his shoulders to the mat for 2. Kidman with a leglock, they're back up. Headlock by Kidman, he's wrenching it in. Mysterio power him out but Kidman knocks him down. Running the ropes, leapfrog, knees to the gut, headscissors by Mysterio. Whip, reverse, Rey does that spinning thing in the ropes he does. Kidman runs at him but is backbodydropped - he lands on his feet on the canvas, head to the gut, flying headscissors to come back in (wow!). Forearm by Kidman. Whip, Rey ducks but Kidman grabs him and puts him in the - Mysterio flips over and tries a gutwrench but they get to the ropes, Kidman shrugs him off and hits a dropkick for 2. Lots of counters and counter counters. Snapmare by Kidman, elbowdrop. We've crossed over into the third hour but no one's noticed, and they shouldn't, it's a good match. Reverse chinlock by Kidman here. Stomp on the chest and head. To the corner, whip out, Rey hits his back HARD and goes down. Elbow by Kidman, whip into the opposite corner, axehandle, kick, whip, reverse, Kidman up to make him miss but Mysterio hits a "jumping spin wheel kick." Now he's on the top rope - UNA PLANCHA! 1, 2, no. Whip, reverse, Kidman catches him and throws him over his head to slam him for 2. Rey tries to roll out of the ring but Kidman catches him on the outside of the ropes - suplex in attempt is blocked, blocked again. Rey suplexes him out of the ring! Kidman lands on his feet but grabs his knee. Referee "Blind" Billy Silverman puts the count on, so Rey goes out to get him. TV-14-V box is out - hmm, that's not the rating the first hour got. Lightning legdrop. What's the crowd chanting? 1, 2, no. Pounding by Kidman - Tigerbomb for 2. Back to the chinlock. Knee to the gut by Kidman, to the corner we go, whip out, Rey puts up a knee. Kidman manages to reverse a whip and hit a lariat. Oh, the crowd is chanting "Green Bay Sucks." Hey, fuck you Minnesota. 1, 2, no. Ratings box is still up there - something DREADFUL must be happening in the third hour for them to beat into our heads that it's a TV-14 rating. Whip, duck, Rey manages a headscissors to take Kidman out of the ring - Mysterio landing on the apron. Punch to Kidman as he tries to come back in - somersault splash by Mysterio to the floor. Kick to the head by Rey, another kick. Rey breaks the count and climbs to the top. Now Kidman is climbing to the top. Kidman hung on the top rope, Mysterio with a top rope guillotine legdrop. To the center of the ring, cradle for 2 by Rey. Ratings box is still there - go away! Elbows by Rey, Kidman fights back with elbows of his own. Scoop slam by Kidman. He's climbing to the top! Big splash finds nobody. Rey is going to climb to the top himself! He leaps - sits on him for 2! Arm bar - Rey is up, they're both down - no idea what that move is but it gets him two. Forearms by Rey. Kidman manages another powerbomb for 2. Both men up super slow. To the corner - bulldog by Kidman. Kidman to the top - ratings box still there - Rey crotches him on the top rope. Rey climbs up - huracanrana time but both men are down. Count is on, Rey is up for the cover - 1, 2, no. Crowd is booing?! Fuck you, Minnesota. Whip, reverse, gobehind, what was that? Mysterio drives his head into the mat. 1, 2, no. Mysterio signals and climbs the ropes, Kidman dropkicks him as he splashes and the bell rings. Time limit draw? Yup, so sayeth Charles Robinson. Bored 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2003 Eddy Guerrero & Mr. JL def. Chris Benoit & Dean Malenko Eddy Guerrero def. Chris Benoit; CW Title Match Curt Hennig def. Dean Malenko; U.S. Title Match Chris Jericho def. Diamond Dallas Page by DQ; TV Title Match Chris Benoit def. Dean Malenko in a Last Man Standing Match Those all sounded like they were great. Wasn't October 25th 1999 the start of The Powers To Be Angle? Eddy/JL vs. Benoit/Malenko is recapped by Michael T. Tyler, the two '97 matches are recapped by John Petrie, and the last two matches are recapped by CRZ. I don't think this is specifically when the Powers that Be angle began (might have been a couple of weeks earlier) but this was certainly when the Russo booking kicked in to high gear. I've added a recap at the end. Mr JL/Edy Guerrero defeated Chris Benoit/Dean Malenko. COMMENTS: Alex Wright came to ringside in crutches because he had an ankle injury. Great match. The only problem I have is the stupid cut-in of the Scott Norton/Shark situation. STUPID! STUPID! STUPID! Back to the match, Malenko/Benoit controlled most of the match. This match had good high spots including one time when Guerrero came into the ring and dlipped both Malenko and Benoit. The end comes when Alex Wright trips up Malenko with this crutch and JL rolled up Malenko for the win. I can't remember the exact high spots because I am doing this from memory, but there were plenty of them. RATING:3.5* TIME~12:00 AFTERMATCH: As Edy, JL and Alex were walking down to the aisle going back to the dressing rooms, Brian Pillman DDTed Edy Guerrero and showed the 4-Horsemen sign with his hand. QUOTE THIS: B*tchoff was advertising Mike Tenay's hotline saying he has the results of In Your House PPV, McMichaels responded: "You mean In Your Outhouse." Well put for a change. CHRIS BENOIT vs. EDDIE GUERRERO Eddie's got really lame music now. Sort of a low-rider, Tijuana brass arrangement. The match started of like it would be a classic. Fast, stiff and fierce action. The high spot was Benoit nailing Guerrero with a tope through the ropes from the ring to the floor. Then they cut to commercial. Once back we see Benoit is in an Abdominal Stretch. He breaks free, they do a spot on the corner turnbuckles that doesn't amount to anything, then Benoit knocks himself out by ramming his head into the turnbuckles. The referee pushes Eddie away to see if Benoit is injured. Eddie takes the opportunity to climb to the top and come off with the Frog Splash. Eddie gets the pin. Promising match almost totally ruined by the commercial break. They cut away just as things were getting hot, came back for a resthold, then finished just a few minutes later. Benoit fans are at least able to say "he beat himself", while the win makes Guerrero's probable upcoming title loss to Rey Mysterio, Jr. that much more unrealistic. (After all, if Guerrero can beat Benoit-a "heavyweight"-how could he ever lose to that flyspeck Mysterio?) DEAN MALENKO vs. CURT HENNIG Malenko just looked too small to effectively battle Hennig. Still, he actually seemed to be winning the match. The end came when Malenko whipped Hennig chest-first into the corner and followed. Malenko lowered his head and lightly bumped into Hennig's shoulder. Suddenly it's as if he's been nailed with a chair or something. He begins staggering around, leaving him wide open for Hennig to apply the Hennig-Plex for the win. CHRIS MONDAY JERICHO v. DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE for the WCW World Television Championship - Page walks out through the crowd because he's a suck-up. I predict a time limit draw but hope I'm wrong. I also predict that if it IS a time limit draw, it won't be anywhere NEAR the correct time. Didn't Goldberg actually get counted out on THUNDER! once a few weeks back? Oh, forgot about that, didn't we. Anyway, Jericho stalls to start which leads me to believe that time limit thing - lockup, Jericho knocked down. He complains to referee "Blind" Mickey Jaye about a hairpull. Hey, anybody seen Jimmy Jett lately? Lockup, Jericho with armdrag, Page reverses, Jericho down, kip up, reverse, reverse, Jericho pushes him to the canvas and quickly exits the ring when Page pops back up and chases him. Back in we go, lockup, side headlock, Page with the elbows to the back, powers him off but Jericho knocks him down. Dueling hiptoss attmepts after coming off the ropes, nice somersault by Jericho but Pag hits the left-handed lariat. Faceslam - 1, 2, Jericho grabs the rope. In the corner, Page is going for the ten punch countalong but Jericho picks him up and drops his face on the turnbuckle. Nice dropkick and Page falls from the apron to the floor. Jericho goes out, kicking Page in the head on the way down. Whip into the barricade. Back in the ring, three minutes down. Arrogant cover for 1. Hmm, Page is in the main event at Sunday's PPV - think Jericho will win? Another 2 count. Knee to the chest, head to the canvas. Page fires back with rights and lefts and a "discus clothesline" To the corner hard, when he comes out Page catches him in a belly-to-back suplex, but only gets 2. Jawbreaker by Jericho - clothesline - quebrada for two. Suplex attempt is blocked and countered into a cross armbreaker, which for some reason Page drops to try a cover - only 2. Diamond Cutter attempt is countered with a backslide attempt, and unseen by the ref, a back Golotta by Jericho. Jericho tries to put on the Liontamer, but Page fights it - then legs to whip Jericho to the canvas. Duck clothesline, Page hits a tiltawhirl slam. Page motions for the Diamond Cutter. But here's GREENBERG, spearing Jericho (DQ 5:31) and Page manages to give Jericho the Diamond Cutter before he and Goldberg try to get at each other. All five refs and J.J. DILLON are out to try to separate them, and this exciting action can only mean it's time for an ad break. CHRIS BENOIT (with TV-14-DL ratings box) v. DEAN MALENKO in a "Last Man Standing" match - you and I might remember these matches as "Tejas Death" matches - or maybe YOU wouldn't - God, I'd love to be YOUR age again. Again, I must note that we'll cross the top of the hour with Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko. Let Us Take You Back To Some More Stills and show you how Dean Malenko turned on Chris Benoit in the TV title match. Malenko rushes the ring and it's on. Punches exchanged, rapid fire. In the corner, back and forth - Benoit kicking in the delicate area. Chop is blocked and Malenko takes him through the ropes to the floor. Following out, whip into the STEEL barricade. Head to the barricade. Malenko takes him back in the ring. Whip into the corner is reversed, Benoit slides under and outside, then grabs the legs and makes a wish with the STEEL ringpost. Back in - stomp on the head. Elbow. 6.3 3.0 Whip into the opposite corner, atomic drop, knife-edge chop, and Malenko hits the deck. Schiavone tells Heenan not to "put yourself over" because he's EDGY now. Benoit stomping away. Knife-edge chop. Again. Kick. Benoit with an open-handed slap, another stomp, into the opposite corner, Benoit puts him on the top turnbuckle as he staggers backwards - belly-to-back TOP-ROPE SUPERPLEX! Referee "Blind" Charles Robinson puts on his first 10 count. Both men up at 7. Benoit with a German suplex - holding on for the second - Malenko holds the top ropes to prevent the third. Benoit tries to make him break the holdwith clubbin' blows. Malenko hits back elbows and his trick knee acts up to turn the tide. Malenko suplexes Benoit over the top rope. There's a baseball slide dropkick and now Malenko has joined him outside. Malenko punching away - now standing on the throat. Benoit whipped into the STEEL steps. Malenko lines up the steps against Benoit's back and then dropkicks the steps. Malenko putting the badmouth on now. He's spitting on him! Back into the ring we go. Malenko making friends with the crowd. Suplex attempt is countered - Malenko with the standing switch - Benoit counters AGAIN and hits a belly-to-back suplex. DOUBLE OKIE BLOW!! Right hand to the back of the head. Knife-edge chop. Off the ropes, Malenko pulls up and kicks. Off the ropes, it's a double clothesline and Robinson puts on another count. Both men trying to get up...Benoit up at 10 - and Malenko up at 10.5. Robinson rings the bell. (7:02) The FILTHY ANIMALS run to the ring after the match (and thank God it wasn't DURING the match) and surround Benoit - who steps aside so they can quadruple team Malenko. The voice of SHANE DOUGLAS stops them. He, PERRY SATURN and ASYA reveal TORRIE WILSON. If they keep putting the boots to Malenko, then there'll be real problems. Douglas does a fair amount of mouth running while Malenko is given a free pass to the back. Douglas says if they want Torrie back, they'll stay where they are. They walk to the back and the Animals decide to take off after them. In case you find this storyline compelling, we hope you'll stay tuned through this next three minutes of ads! Two Big Breasted Women def. The Outsiders Can't believe no one asked for this match yet. Recap by CRZ: OUTSIDERS v. ? - is it just me, or are we hearing a bit more of David Penzer tonight? Nothing wrong with that. Hall and Nash are still wearing the same clothes they came in with. The opponents are - well, the TWIN TOWERS come out - are they the opponents? Apparently not, they bookend a trio of women - including a woman with - ummm - tremendously overripe watermelons. Now Hall WANTS to sart the match. So we got a chick in bikini top and hot pants - and thigh high boots - and probably greased up - waiting to lock up with Hall. Listen to Tony: "The Powers To Be were looking for ratings, and they gonna getum tonight! I know no one's turning away from this thing - the Outsiders gonna wrestle some girls! And they looking for numbers - they got 'em!" Hall goes to lock up - and the women points her tits at him. Hall pulls up short. No WONDER both these guys got divorces. Lockup, side headlock from Hall - into her cleavage. Hall thinks he liked it. Hall tring to make the tag - but not really. Chick's fondling herself. Now waggling her booty. Bob Ryder approves of this. Lockup, to the corner - chick with a Ten Punch Count Along which Hall doesn't mind as his head is in her crotch. Hall with a FLAIR FLOP! Heenan: "We're gonna get bigger numbers than Dow Jones!" Chick spanks Hall - again - and again. Hall asks that the other chick be tagged in. Nash pounds the turnbuckles - Hall strains to make the tag - tag to Nash! Nash in and in slow motion. Nash is mesmerized by the third woman, she of the giant bazooms. She says if Nash and Hall lay down and take the fall, she'll lift her top, or something. Nash and Hall immediately lay down - both women cover - referee "Blind" Billy Silverman puts on the count - 1, 2, 3. (4:00) Nash wants to see 'em already. Here's COLD BEER - there's a spear for Hall - and here's one for Nash. You know, I may be the only person that thinks this, but this segment was PRETTY FUCKING LAME. I'm on the Internet - I can GET porn pretty much any time I want, if I'm so inclined. Even pix of ... MINKA! (I just shocked SOMEBODY, I bet.)
