The One and Only Megaman X7 thread

I just got this game yesterday and damn it's hard. Or at least hard for me since I'm not really use to playing this type of game in 3D.

I got the game when it was released in Japan and am hoping to buy an english version soon.

Overall I loved the game, but I can see why people would not like it as the 2d-3d transaction can be awkward sometimes.

Megaman games should not be in 3D as far as I'm concerned. Then again, that's what people said about Mario and Metroid and those turned out OK.

Agreed, but I'd still rather have absolutely EPIC Gamecube sidescroller versions of Mario or Metroid than the supposedly "better" 3-D versions that we've gotten. I seriously think that if Nintendo took a shot at making some sort of old-school sidescroller with incredible 2-D graphics and a wealth of levels (like, say, Super Mario World, only ten times as long), they'd make a mint.

Anyways, yeah, Mega Man should be strictly 2-D, no exceptions.

I'd love to see another truly epic side scroller also but to be perfectly honest, and it's too bad about this really, kids today (and even *most* people who grew up on side scrollers) wouldn't pay to play a 2D sidescroller on their Gamecubes.

What Nintendo should do, however, is start making some (get this) *NEW* 2D games for the GBA. Stop rehashing old NES and SNES games and selling them for top dollar. Metroid Fusion was a step in the right direction but dammit they re-released every single 2D Mario game for the GBA... how about a new game for a change. Zelda too.

I guess I can't blame Nintendo for wanting to port the SNES games to GBA. It saves them on the development costs of making new games, but it still makes me mad. I played and beat the hell out of these games 10 years ago. If they were going to re-release them , they should have been on one huge compilation cart.

I have beat it and seen all the endings.

I like it, more than I thought I would too. I will have to play through it more, but so far I'd rank it i nthe middle of the series.

I guess this topic deviated quickly...

A lot of gamers who want more 2-D are often painted with the "close-minded, don't want to look forward" stereotype. Yet, all I want is to have some alternatives. GBA still gets 2-D, but what means is that 2-D has been ghettoized to portables, and when the PSP comes out (or if the N-Gage succeeds.... ), then that will be gone, too.

However, I understand that 3D has its place. Yet must close to 100% of games on a console be 3D? Even about 20% of current new releases being 2D (on consoles, that is) I'd be happy with. 3D is a viable medium, but some 2D conventions don't work in 3D, just as 3D conventions don't work in 2D.

Metroid Prime...great game, but I wouldn't exactly call it a Metroid game because it was a FPS that played very different from the original 2D platformers.

At least Metroid Zero Mission is coming. It's not a NEW new game, but its new enough. God bless SNK for their upcoming Metal Slug 3/Advance and KOF 2000/2001 releases.

Back somewhat on topic, there's still Mega Man Zero 2...but meh...there's a fine line between "difficult" and "irritatingly hard." The programmers didn't even try to shoot anywhere near said line.

Funny you should mention that... ;)

Anyway I'm not going to argue, the MMZ games are hard, much much harder than then X series but not in a good way. You have a pathetic number of lives and its very very tedious to get a high rank.

Personally, I never much cared for getting good rankings in games, but sometimes you have to in order to get upgrades and stuff. I don't like this. I prefer having upgrades and things hidden in the levels somewhere. I've never played the Zero games, they look interesting though. This isn't the first time I've heard someone say that they're really hard though.

I think the only 2D games we'll see on consoles from now on are capcom/snk fighters. I'm going to have to check into that Metroid Zero Mission thing. I've never heard of that

Okay, I feel better now. MMZ1 was fun for a while...but when one of your first bosses uses a vice that can crush you to death instantly, it's clear to see that there's something a little odd going on.

Plus to get all the cool items to make the game easier...you have to be good enough to earn them--so it's kinda moot.

Since when are portable games expected to be harder than console titles? That makes no sense.

I also thought you said the original SNES titles were harder than any of the X series?

I have no idea when it is coming out, but it's supposed to be a remake of the original Metroid. Think of Metroid, but playing more like Super Metroid. The art style is more similar to Fusion, however.

Also, don't forget about Metal Slug 3!

Yet, there's a 3D King of Fighters coming (argh).

If Viewtiful Joe sales like porn, then we will see a rush of 2d-ish side scrollers. All you need is one good selling, praised game and other developers will jump on the band wagon. Take cell shading for example.

I said that most of the X series is easier than the nes megaman games (particularly X1, I think I had more trouble in mario world). The only X game which gave me mind numbing, cat kicking hair ripping fury was X2 where you have to get Zero's parts by fighting the three extra mavericks which appear at random stages when you are pitifully unequipped, but yet its one of my favorite X games.

The MMZ series however is much more challenging, up there with the nes megaman games in terms of difficulty, perhaps even harder due to the whole mission and lives scenario.

Oh btw I didn’t beat MMZ2 blindfolded but I did beat MMZ while still maintaining my complete cyber elf collection.

And I'm dreading kof 3d, Snk should have really just made a new fighting game in 3d period.

I think it'll sell very well, with all the critical acclaim and the cool look. I don't think that means it will help 2D since it still is 2.5D itself (it's still polys).

I think a great 2D game can still sell truckloads with the right marketing campaign. However, with no marketing (like the SNK titles likely will be), then only those familiar with them will likely buy.

Wild Ambition still stings, eh?

I haven't played SamSho64, but I haven't heard much about it either.

I do agree it would have been better off to start from scratch rather than to make a sequel in 3D. Capcom even tested the waters with titles like Star Gladiator before going 3D, and even when they went 3D it wasn't their main focus (a different developer actually made the EX games, right?)--they kept making the 2D games.

Speaking of 2D fighters, reminds me of a post I wanted to do about their gameplay I'll do as soon as I get time...

This game is gonna cause lots of damage to my hands. They're sore as fuck after beating Tornado Tonion and Vanishing Gungaroo today.

Piece of advice for anyone fighting Flame Hyenard...turn off the volume or it'll drive you insane.
