Besides Taker had what ONE good match as the dead Man? (I count 90-96 as the real DEADMAN) the 97-99 stuff he was just a demonic soap opera character...

I'll take the MMA Influenced American Badass over that.

Just as long as he keeps eating cruiserweights for lunch.

Ok, did you consider the types of opponents he had during that era? He isn't Flair, Choken. You've got Giant Gonzalez, Kamala, an unmotivated Hogan, Mabel, Damien Demento, Yokozuna, and the entire Million Dollar Coporation.

I'd love to see a return to the Deadman character we saw from late 1996 to late 1998. He was still the Deadman, albeit a more "realistic" one.

I don't get all the love for Taker all of a sudden. I give him props for trying to create a moveset, but people are suddenly acting like he's the mold for what every wrestler should be just because he's breaking out a couple new moves.

Yes I know he didn't have any good opponets but he really didn't do much in the ring anyways during this point.

why does it so much love? He doesn't really, half the place still hates his guts but at the age of 40 he is showing that he isn't just "phoneing" it in...Showing that if you keep your body respected and in shape unlike HHH, you can still bust out Magistral Cradles and Over the ropes Head Scisscors...

Flair RARELY diversified his moveset outside of Kick, Punch, Eye poke/gauge, Chop, Slap, Knee Drop, Arm Bar Figure four, cradle after he turned 40...

Matter of fact that was his moveset in his "prime" as well...

I think that this will be a good move for the WWE. I just downloaded the video of Degeneration X's remix.... HHH and HBK on a recent RAW from a couple months ago.... the crowd just ate it up and erupted. I have no doubt in my mind that they'd EXPLODE for the ol' skool dead man. Then again....time will tell what's to happen. We have had totally idiotic wrestling fans that don't mark out for anything.

It's gonna rule...period.

Puro/MMA fans obviously won't "get it"...I don't even know why they're in this folder and posting in this topic, other then to stir up trouble.

There's a lot to "get". And unless you were a big old-school WWF mark with respect for cool "sports entertainment" gimmicks - which you're not - you wouldn't. So why don't you just get lost and go give a lecture on how the Tiger Driver '91 wasn't supposed to such a vicious move in the puro mutant folder? Or maybe enlighten us on how there hasn't been a ***** match in North America since 1987?

Well, excuse me for being a fan of WRESTLING, not over the top cartoonish gimmicks.

Why don't you get lost or stop saying such stupid things?

Wow, I am finally included in the Puro/MMA group. There are so many people I would like to thank, first of all RRR for being such a Pride whore.

Ok back on topic.

In regards to not getting the nostalgia, there is a difference between someone like Hogan and someone like UT. Hogan was a huge draw, and a monster influence in the minds of children who are now adults and got nostalgic.

UT on the other hand is in the exact same position as he was with the dead man gimmick.

Dead man - attraction, spot ME, terrible matches

Bikertaker - attraction, spot ME, currently one of the top workers in the company

So excuse me for being an evil, evil MMA fan if I think the current incarnation of the Undertaker is better.

Just because he brings back the Deadman gimmick, doesn't mean he's gonna go back to doing the finger thrusts to the throat and chokes in the corner. I'm sure that his workrate will remain the same. I'm also sure that it won't be a permanent thing, and that sooner or later he'll return to being the Bikertaker.

I envision it as being a Cactus Jack kinda thing, where he gets pushed to the limit and he busts out that gimmick for one night only.

Obviously, he's not going to be trying to convince anybody that he is a dead man. I don't see it as being a cartoon gimmick in this context. I see it as being a gimmick that he uses for a psychological edge over his opponents. Just like when Mick Foley threw on his snakeskin boots and "Wanted" T-shirt, it was a metamorphosis into his dark alter ego...when Taker busts out the old Deadman gear, it's the same thing. It's not like the fans are expected to go, "Oh shit, here comes Frankenstein"...they are expected to go, "Oh shit, Mark's pissed now."

He may bust out the zombie sit-up again (kinda like how Cactus would no-sell chair shots that Mankind would sell) - which would be AWESOME - but I don't see much else changing aside from his look.

Why don't they just go back to the look he had when he first debuted the Biker gimmik...long black trench coat, bandana, black shades and freaky lolita Titantron thing. He still had some of the old dead man qualities but it wasn't cartoonish
