Try-outs for Training in Indies

Recommended Posts

Guest JumpinJackFlash

I plan on training to become a pro wrestler, so I talked to the promoter of a local promotion. I asked him about the info on training in their league. He said that there is a $50 tryout. I don't know any wrestling moves, but he said that it only tests endurance. Its the only promotion near my city, so I really don't have any other options. Plus, if I pass the tryout, I feel that the training costs will be cheaper than other promotions due to how small it is. What should I do?

Try-outs tend to be scams, but $50 is awfully low for a scam, so it might not be. Find out, up front, how much they charge. Also, try to find out who some alumni are. Watch some guys who graduated from that school, see if they're any good.

Thanks. Oh, and by the way, I saw their show last week, and I saw some pretty good wrestlers there. The pomoter also mentioned that their show was not as good as others that they've had, but he may be lying. Nonetheless, there are some pretty good wrestlers there, and they may have trained there in the past. I'll look into it more(and train more), before I put in my $50.

50$ try-out fee is a good idea, if you cant hack the cardio in the try out then dont pay to train as a wrestlers as it is harder and more demanding, my guess is they dont want to waste alot of time traing dropouts

VCW is the promotion. Its a very small promotion in Virginia. I found out some more info and that is if you don't give up and you're not looking like you're going to die wrestling, then you pass. Then, you're given your $50 back, and you have to pay a down payment of $250(200 w/tryout). Each class is $25 or you can pay $40 and have acces to all three classes a week. 6 weeks to train.(If I can learn that fast) $40 a week. That equals $240. Add the $200 and that's $440. I think that's a good deal.

I messed up in my calculations. Training would take more towards 6 months than 6 weeks. That would probably cost $1,100. Good deal?

Most schools charge $3,000, so if you trust your trainers and feel like you are getting trained well, that's defintiely worth it. It's hard to find a good, cheap deal, although I have as well- New Midwest Wrestling. Awesome guys, great talent, $50 per month.

How's the school? What do you do? Whose th lightest guy there?(asking that since I'm 125)

I'm interested in finding out what you learn at these schools, and what goes on.

There are maybe 1 or 2 guys smaller than me if that, but otherwise I'm the smallest at 5'8" and 135 pounds. I'm also the youngest too, as most of the others are in their mid-late 20's. Everyone there is great and the shows are amazing. The guys definitely have talent. They usually turn out new wrestelrs in around 6 months. They even have a gymnastics expert to train you for high flying moves. On the first day or 2, you just take basic bumps and learn to run the ropes, soon moving up to front flip bumps and simple drills like clotheslines (giving and receiving), hiptosses, backdrops, etc. until you graduate to more advanced moves. They also take the guys out to run every other day. Training is Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights, with private training by appointment on Fridays and Saturdays.

I'm actually not going there at the moment. I stopped being able to afford it, and I'm looking for a job now, although I don't know if I'll even be able to stay here. Anyway, if you want to check out their website, head to www.newmidwest.com.
