Guest JumpinJackFlash Posted October 26, 2003 Report Posted October 26, 2003 These two have had some classic matches. Some people will pick at least one of their classic matches as the greatest match of all time. A lot of people like Flair, and a lot like Steamboat, but who is better? Make sure to take everything into consideration, including workrate, charisma, mic skills, and variety.
Guest Corino 1000 Posted October 26, 2003 Report Posted October 26, 2003 Two of the best of all time. Too close to call.
godthedog Posted October 26, 2003 Report Posted October 26, 2003 well, if we're including mic skills then flair wins easily, but on pure wrestling ability i prefer steamboat. best babyface ever, and his overselling is a joy to watch (even moreso than flair's heel tactics i think). not only that, but steamboat could ADAPT HIS STYLE. flair got good matches out of his opponents by taking his formula & plugging wrestler x into it. steamboat got good matches out of his opponents by adapting his style to fit their strengths. if you compare flair/steamboat to steamboat/luger to steamboat/savage, you get a different style and a different strategy every time. steamboat's got flair beat on variety.
HellSpawn Posted October 29, 2003 Report Posted October 29, 2003 Whoooo! I remember comments from Ben Miller (wrestleline and >I think he is now in observer) and Bruce Mitchell (Torch) about how Flair got several wrestler Best matches... I mean, he got (for example) Magnus TA best match, Vader, Sting, etc... I think I posted the article in one thread at the of Polls or Old school forums...
Guest Choken One Posted October 29, 2003 Report Posted October 29, 2003 Flair wins as he had the total Package He could Wrestle (though Argueably Steamer was slightly better) He had More Charisma He could play each side Flair could Draw and Steamboat was a failure at the box office.
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 Assuming that this poll meant in ring only Steamboat wins that one. But if they mean all around, the Flair wins hands down.

Well I don't know about Magnum so much (although his 'I quit' match with Tully Blanchard gets the most press), but Sting's best matches were with Vader and Vader's were probably in Japan. Flair totally didn't jell with Vader in my opinion. Flair probably had 'the best matches' with Windham, Kollof and Kerry Von Erich though.

Flair's one of the best total packages of all time. Whereas, Steamboat just edges him out as far as in-ring talent. Their matches were some of the best I've ever seen, Clash VI in particular.

To add to this: In probably his best career performance, Vadar dragged a great match out of Inoki's crusty corpse, meanwhile he couldn't do anything above average with Flair's crusty corpse. Not to mention the Inoki match is better than anything Flair's ever done. Does that make Vadar a better worker than Flair, I don't know, but it does make you think. But Vadar's best matches were with Takada in UWFi. Amazing that he could stroll in there and have matches of that level with Takada in the shoot style setting. Don't get me wrong, it's Takada's matches, but still it showed that Vadar could keep up with one of the best in an alien setting.
