Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2003 here's a HUGE spoiler-ific article on IGN about AVP, the plot rundown, the characters, hell, even the DEATHS! Without further ado... Alien vs. Predator Plot Summary The E.T. crossover begins filming next week. October 22, 2003 - Production on Alien vs. Predator is scheduled to begin in Prague next week, and 20th Century Fox is already building interest in the film with a special preview that they've been showing at entertainment events, including the Los Angeles Comic Book and Science Fiction Convention which was held this weekend. We've decided to make a compilation of everything we know about the film, including details from our own sources and the information that been revealed by Fox. Warning: this article contains serious spoilers, including some of the characters' deaths! The Background Story Spoiler (Highlight to Read): Here's the idea in a nutshell: Predators have been using our planet for thousands of years as a training ground for their hunter-warriors. Aztec temples were the focii of this training, and Aliens were used as prey. The Aztec people saw the Predators as gods, and built many of their monuments for these hunters. The movie's choice of Aztecs seems strange, since their civilization only dates back a century before Columbus. If the producers wanted something old, why not the Olmecs, whose ancient civilization was the progenitor of later Meso-American empires? I guess Aztecs are just cooler. At any rate, the Aztec Predators were wiped out by an out-of-control Alien infestation, and that was the end of that. But they also had an older, more secret temple buried under the icecap of Antarctica, where the training continued. Fast-forward to the present day. The Main Plot Charles Weyland, the billionaire industrialist, has discovered the Antarctic temple using thermal imaging satellites. Thinking that this could be the site of mankind's Master Culture, he assembles a crack team, Jurassic Park-style, to go take a look. What they find, instead of a manmade temple, is a Predator temple where five young hunters are about to conduct their first Alien hunt. The Predator weapon of choice is a six-bladed shuriken throwing star, while the Aliens use their trademark infest-and-impale method of fighting. The humans, of course, get caught in the middle of it. Movie tagline: "Whoever wins, we lose." The Characters Alexia "Lex" Homer – Lex is the star of this film, a kind of Lara Croft character. She's an environmental scientist and a mountain climber, who joins the expedition after Weyland makes her an offer she can't refuse. Charles Weyland – A billionaire industrialist in his forties, Weyland is secretly dying of cancer. He's a patron of scientific research, and hopes to make a lasting contribution before his death, but is that all he's got in mind? Weyland's signature prop is a 9-iron that he carries at all times. Weyland is played by Lance Henriksen, the same actor who played the android "Bishop" in Alien and Alien 3. Perhaps there is a geneological connection between Weyland and the Alien-era man that Bishop is modelled on. Sebastian Wells – An American archaeologist and Aztec specialist in his thirties, Wells' idealism often clashes with his boss's priorities. A charmer, Wells starts out as a romantic interest for Lex before getting infected with a "chest-burster" and immobilized in an Alien coccoon. Miller – Miller is the stereotypical nerdy scientist with thick glasses. His expertise as a chemical engineer and his knowledge of metallurgy help Weyland's team make some key discoveries. Miller doesn't survive long enough to appreciate these findings, unfortunately. Verheiden – Verheiden is the team's Egyptologist, brought along just in case the temple has any connection to the Nile civilization. He makes a disturbing discovery in the ancient complex – skeletons with broken ribcages and fossilized Alien face-huggers. Verheiden has had a romantic encounter with Lex in the past, and he treats fellow archaeologist Sebastian Wells as a rival on the expedition. Max Stafford – Stafford is an ex-soldier, Weyland's right-hand man. He assembles and leads Weyland's team of explorers. Quinn – Quinn is a tough, arrogant Texan in charge of the drill team included in the expedition. Friction between his drilling team and the scientists adds to the expedition's difficulties. Quinn has to face down an Alien twice: the first time, he escapes with his life; the second time, he isn't so lucky. Vincenzo – Vincenzo, a minor character, appears to be a mercenary soldier assisting the expedition The group's numerous other members include several roughneck drillers under Quinn's command. Names that appear briefly in the script include Bass, Scar, Brown, Stone, and Peters. Many of these characters die early in the film. ______________________________ Well, this is certainly ever so bleakly better a plot than earlier rumored connections to Egypt, but associating it to Aztecs is retarded all the same. I hate the idea of connecting well known landmarks, that really have nothing mysterious about them left, being connected to ALIENS!!! I hated it in Stargate, and I hate it just as much now. Of course, since the movie is from the brilliantly diseased mind of Paul Anderson (not to be confused with the respectable Paul Thomas Anderson of Boogie Nights and Punch Drunk Love fame), we get a "strong female lead" that does extreme sports, and is one tough cookie despite probably being a waify good looking blonde. Garf. Maybe we can expect a reference to his previous masterpiece, Resident Evil, in which a waify good looking chick bullet-time kicks a fucking zombie dog. I fully expect a scene where she'll be giving the people's elbow to a fully armored predator. In bullet-time. I can picture the trailers already! So what of that cast? I have to agree with that Jurassic Park comparison, I'm guessing endless chases down corridors and such, screaming with and all that, but the use of the Predators in the film could be the wild-card. How will they be handled? Will they ally with the humans? It could happen. Let's hear what you guys make of it!
Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted October 26, 2003 Oh God, if they go with a full scale war of Aliens vs Predators and not just one of each fighting it out, I will be overjoyed.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2003 Well the way Aliens vs. Predators has always seemed to work is that a single Alien is not a match for a Predator. They attack in swarms.

Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2003 Alien 3 closed the Alien series fine enough. Alien Resurrection made people wonder want to murder anybody that tried to "resurrect" (pun intended) the franchise. Fucking HELL... NOOOOO. They couldn't take a look at the AWESOME fucking Aliens vs. Predator comics. NOOOOO. They couldn't take a look at the fucking GREAT Aliens vs. Predator games. Nope, not one bit. What do they do? They completely, COMPLETELY go against the grain of the series by making a fucking prequel to one franchise, while making another stupid sequel to another. I hate Fox sometimes... As for the AvP comics, check out the following series to see how awesome they are: Aliens vs. Predator Aliens vs. Predator: Deadliest Of The Species Aliens vs. Predator: Duel* Aliens: Berserker* Aliens vs. Predator: War* * = AvP: Duel and Berserker were crossed over into AvP: War. The survivors of the Berserker crew end and a background character of the AvP: Duel plot intertwine.

Damaramu 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2003 Maybe it's my inner sexist pig speaking...but I can just never buy the tough female lead role. Maybe because I don't actually know any females like that in real life.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2003 See, I could buy Ripley as an ass-kicker in the Alien series. She was hardened by the fact that her best friends were killed off one-by-one, that her daughter had died (see Aliens: Special Edition), and that she had come close to death and escaped. She was pissed because the alien took away her daughter from her, and she wanted to exterminate them all. Sensical hardening to create the "tough female lead." Fuck Paul Anderson.
