A precurser to the NEW Hart Foundation in 1997.

Triple H, Chyna, Road Dogg, & Billy Gunn def. The Radicalz

DX beats The Radicalz, AGAIN?

I hate Vince.

First match recapped by Kevin James Posiadilk, second match recapped by CRZ.

Bret Hart and Davey Boy Smith vs. Owen Hart and Jim Neidhart

Ho boy, my first feature-level tag match and it's got some talent in

there. This might be a ride...

The announcement of the New Foundation doesn't even get as far as the

weight before Bret and Davey Boy jump the heels and start whaling away,

Bret on Neidhart and Davey on Owen. The whip-into- each-other

inevitably follows, knocking Owen down, and the faces follow through

with a double clothesline of the Anvil. Were the roles reversed, we'd

be hearing a synonym for 'dastardly' right about now, but as things

are, Neidhart is allowed to roll out without further incident and Bret

whips Owen into the Bulldog's military press stance, from which Owen is

delicately tossed towards the railing, escaping injury only due to the

timely presence of the Anvil to break his fall. (That's <30 seconds,

this is gonna run looooong...) At least the ref has the decency to yell

at the faces for this display.

Owen moans about his arm, so it'll be Neidhart starting things off for

the heels, and Bret Hart for the faces. Bret rope-launches Anvil from

the apron to the ring. Couple of headblows, and a little rope burn for

the Anvil's face. Bret whips Nedihart, but is reversed. Anvil undoes

his good work by charging into Bret's foot. Clothesline by Bret.

Lawler is yelling about all the closed fists Bret has been using so

far. Bret with a horizontal whip, reversed again, but this time Bret

jumps behind Neidhart for a run into the ropes and an attempted

roll-up. Neidhart grabs the ropes, but Bret somersaults away to a

standing position, leaving him in position to charge straight into

Neidhart's bear hug. Bret tries to solve this by sinking his teeth

into the Anvil's skulls, and by some miracle, he apparently found

something, as the hold is released. Hart leads Neidhart over to his

corner to tag in Davey Boy, just as Anvil negates the hand-hold.

Smith and Neidhart lock up, Neidhart pushes Smith away, and the Bulldog

takes advantage by trying to body-block the Anvil over. One, two

charges and nothing happens, the third time Davey Boy gets a little

elevation and down goes Neidhart. Neidhart counters with a sucker

punch from his knees, and Lawler quips, "Nobody likes their in-laws".

Reality check: Davey Boy and Neidhart are both in-laws of Bret and

Owen, not each other. Davey Boy stumbles into the wrong corner, where

Neidhart tags Owen in.

Owen Hart starts with a few punches, then Davey Boy reverses a whip

into the ropes. Owen slides for the Bulldog's right foot but Davey Boy

pulls it almost casually away from the slide. Davey Boy with a foot to

the midsection, a whip into a clothesline, a whip into the corner and a

suplex. Owen now reverses a whip, but puts his head down too soon, and

Davey Boy grabs it and turns it into a half-hour, well, ten-minute

slam. Davey Boy signals to no one, then covers for only two. Davey

Boy with a brief armbar. Owen gets up and manages to send Davey Boy

for the ride, then pulls a nice acrobatic kick to send Davey Boy down.

Davey Boy is thus going to be our official "Face In Trouble" in the

WWF tag match formula. Owen goes into the sharpshooter stance, but as

Bret always does, gives a playful tap to the groin the first time. Owen

with the inverted knee drop, then a tag to Neidhart for a "Make a

Wish". Neidhart gives the same playful tap as before, then something

guess you would call a hair toss. Meanwhile, Vince and Jerry have been

discussing the submission match (more on that later), and conclude that

Owen won't screw over Backlund, as he has nothing to gain from it (no

more title shots, you see). Neidhart with the "never works" reverse

chinlock, sloppily applied to boot. Lawler with the obligitory stabs

at Davey Boy's hair (as if Bret's is any better). Smith goes through

the motions of elbowing out, then runs into what we have to assume was

a knee to the midsection.

Well, it goes on like this (new rule, methodical punishment of the

"Face In Trouble" is subject to severe editing). Owen tags in, and

they do a double clothesline. A short resthold. Owen tries to cover

soon after and gets an emphatic rebuff and is sent flying off at two.

Vince and Jerry discuss the great coincidence of the month: George

Foreman, ex-retired boxer, nabbed a world heavyweight boxing title at

age 45. Bob Backlund, ex-retired wrestler, up for the WWF title, is 45.

Do you believe in omens? Do the scriptwriters? Neidhart tries one

more cover, then we get an ad break soon after.

-- ad break --

We come back just as Davey Boy nearly pulls of a miracle sunset flip on

Owen, but only gets two, and the general beating continues. Owen does

the fastest leg-grabbed-other-leg-to-side-of-head maneuver I've seen

for two. Neidhart with a slow version of Davey Boy's power slam for

two. Davey Boy tries to back Neidhart close enough to Bret for a tag,

but Owen runs in and stops that. Owen is slow to leave the ring, so

Bret feels justified in chasing after him, outside the ring and then a

few laps around the ring. The ref jumps in and tells him to stop this

silliness, we need to save it for Doink's match later on. While the ref

marches Bret back to his corner by the ear, Owen and Neidhart perform a

high-speed, horizontal version of LOD's finisher. Bret has to dash in

right behind the ref to make the save. Reverse chinlock into a

neckbreaker. Cross-body block, but Davey Boy continues the roll and

gets two. No tag allowed, though, time for some rest. Later, Owen

tries some uppercuts and gets tricked into a backslide for two. But

the beat(ing) goes on...

-- ad break --

Mutual clothesline, and it looks like time for the race to tag. It

looks like Smith will win, so Neidhart dashes in, and distracts the ref

so that the tag is missed. Neidhart holds Smith for a dropkick from

Owen, but the Bulldog gets loose and Owen kicks the Anvil instead. Free

ride for Davey Boy, but Owen grabs his foot just in the nick of time.

So Davey Boy shows him the other one, and Owen flies off. Tag. Can you

say "house afire"? I knew you could. After Owen has had enough, Bret

slams Neidhart with a bulldog (should Davey Boy have done that?) Bret

gets two more covers out of his momentum, then on a bounce off the

ropes, Owen gives Bret a love tap on the tush. Neidhart picks up Bret,

but Davey Boy dropkicks the two of them, landing Bret on top. The ref

instead elects to yell at Davey Boy, allowing Owen to cold-cock Bret

and puts Anvil on top. Bulldog rushes in for the save, too late, but

Bret kicks out of it himself. Ref puts out the Bulldog again, Owen and

Neidhart go for the umpteenth double clothesline of the match, but Bret

crosses them by running straight into Neidhart. Davey Boy grabs hold

of Owen from the outside and pulls him out of the action, and Bret has

the Anvil set up just right to apply the sharpshooter. The end.

(117 lines, not TOO bad, I guess.)

D-GENERATION X - WELL, WHAT'S LEFT OF THEM (with RAW credits & TV-14-DLV-CC boxes) v. RADICALS (with Nipples) - Okay, if they're gonna spell it that way, then I shall too - we'll see if they stick with it. The second team comes to the ring to the "Aggression" DX theme, but without Run-DMC. I *won't* call him Billy Gee, 'cause it's LAME and GAY. Then again, Billy Gunn is kinda lame and gay, so maybe it's apropos. Guerrero and Gunn start. Duck, right by Guerrero, right, right, into the ropes, reversed, duck, duck, Gunn with a tilt-a-whirl slam. Tag to Chyna - Guerrero backs into her and has one of those classic reactions. Crappy elbow, crappy elbow, crappy elbow, into the ropes is reversed, gutshot, alleged swinging neckbreaker. Guerrero crawls to the corner, Malenko falls into a drop toehold. Tag to Dogg, left, left, left, juke, jive, right, into the ropes, head down, big back body drop. Saturn over to the adjacent corner to try to get referee "Blind" Earl Hebner's attention. Malenko reverses it with a right, kick, stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, he falls outside. Benoit over to throw a forearm. Dogg put back in before Hebner can notice. Benoit tagged in. Backbreaker gets 2. Into the corner is reversed and Benoit falls backwards into Dogg. Benoit manages to get up first - running kick. Death suplex attempt is countered into a crossbody by Dogg for 1. Stomp by Benoit. Benoit's clothesline is ducked, as is his backhand. Benoit DOES manage a front face, Dogg shoves back into his corner, but the other Radicals distract Hebner just before he can make that tag. Saturn stays in and takes it to the Road Dogg. Into the ropes, head down, kick by Dogg, but Saturn manages the Northern Lights suplex for 2. Into the ropes, duck, mid-air collision puts both men down. Tag to Malenko, HOT TAG to Gunn - he's a house on fire! Shots for everybody - jackhammer for Malenko. Off the ropes, Guerrero puts a knee in the back, turning him around to take a shot from Malenko. Gunn manages to counter the whip with a Fame'Asser, but Benoit breaks it up. It's all breaking down now - Pier Eight Brawl. Kind of a mess, really - nobody doing anything important. H going for the Pedigree on Malenko - Guerrero tries to save, but H shoves him to Chyna for another crappy forearm or two, DOES hit the Pedigree on Malenko, and covers for the 1, 2, 3. I can't see how Triple H was legal, but...oh well. (5:11) "The Kings" proper plays, but it's cut short as KING KURT ANGLE runs back in, along with a renewed push from the Radicals, and the forces of evil take control of the happenings between the ropes. Angle lays the boots to Triple H, then takes off as the Radicals' music plays. Angle smiles broadly and widely. Replay of the Pedigree, pin, and punk out. We come out of the replay to see the Radicals smiling and posing at the top of the ramp...

Oh and Jericho/Rock from 01 was an awesome match nearly as good as the No Mercy one.

Actually Bret didn't appear on the show as he was watching from home was the only mention of him.

Recap to the Rock/Jericho match by CRZ:

WCW CHAMPIONSHIP: THE ROCK v. CHRIS MONDAY JERICHO in a special sweeps month event- Nick Patrick is your referee. Big feeling out process - the bell doesn't ring until hey finally lock up - and THAT doesn't last long, as they push back. Lockup, push back. Jericho SLAPS! Right hand, right, chop, chop, chop, chop, knee, knee, knee, knee. Into the ropes, but Rock hits the flying clothesline off the ropes! Right - head to the buckle, head to the adjacent buckle, into the ropes, Jericho ducks, and hits the flying jalepeno off the ropes! Drops down, right, right, right, boot to the head. Big right hand. Jericho with another right. Knife-edge chop. Into the ropes is reversed, Rock hits a strange backdrop - and gets 2. Head to the buckle by the Rock. Jericho shot into the other corner - elbow up by Jericho - second rope - missile dropkick - 1, 2, no. Right hand by Jericho - right. Rock pulled back up - another slap by Jericho. Rock sent into the ropes, reversal, head down, Jericho kicks - Jericho off the ropes - rock wants Rock Bottom, but Jericho elbows, elbows, elbows out of it. Jericho with a double leg - Rock to the ropes before he can hit the Walls - Patrick breaks it up - Jericho shoves him away and hits a springboard dropkick to take Rock out to the floor. Jericho out after him - stomp. Right, right, right, scoop...Rock dropped on the barricade. Jericho breaks the count and comes back out - kick - Rock put back in - Jericho climbing up...but Rock bounces off the ropes and crotches Jericho! Rock back in control - big right hand - right - climbing to the second storey...got him in position - SUPERPLEX! Rock covers - 1, 2, Jericho easily gets the shoulder up. Rock winds up - and stomps. Jericho's head meets the buckle. Jericho put into the ropes, back elbow by the Rock. Rock picks him up - Jericho blocks, right, right, chop, chop, off the ropes...into a Rock clothesline! Rock hooks a leg - 1, 2, no! Rock pulls him up by the hair - into the buckle. Chop! Rock with another measured chop. Chop. Rock gives Patrick a look - and Jericho takes advantage, switching position - chop, chop, Rock akres the face (!) and turns it back - right hand. Jericho comes right back - gutshot, DDT! Both men are down and Patrick puts on the count. Rock to his knees at 6...and up at 8 - Jericho manages to block - right, block, right, chop, chop, into the ropes is reversed, but Jericho lands the back elbow. Off the ropes - swinging neckbreaker - 1, 2, no! Jericho staying in control...climbing up top - waiting for the Rock to get to his feet - super back elbow lands - 1, 2, no! Jericho mountsh - right, right, Jericho laying the verbal smack down as well. Backbreaker gets 2. Jericho tries another cover - and gets another near fall. Jericho with a kick to the face. Picking Rock back up - chop. Jericho puts his arms underneath the top rope - opening up the chest for another chop. Rock put into the ropes - Jericho's head is down - Rock grabs two fistfuls of hair and whips Jericho's head to the mat. Jericho right back - right hand, HE rakes the face, whip is reversed, Rock with the throw! Right hand - into the ropes is reversed by Jericho - double leg by Rock - SHARPSHOOTER! Rock is putting his all into it - and Jericho is feeling every bit of it. The ropes are WAY too far away - his only hope is to twist around into an ungodly position and reach to his right - and that's what he's doing - three inches from the rope - GOT THE ROPE! Rock releases the hold - but not without some protest to Patrick - Jericho walks right into the spinebuster - don't tell me. Elbowpad is tossed - off one set of ropes - off the other - dropping down - MISSED the elbowdrop! JERICHO! JERICHO WITH ROCK BOTTOM!! 1, 2, ROCK KICKS OUT!!! Jericho asks twice if that wasn't 3 - it was 2. "Rock E" chant. Jericho isn't sure what to do next. Stomp. Rock rolls to the ropes - Jericho pulls him back - opening him up for the elbow. Chop - chop - and tossed over the top to the floor. Jericho goes outside, says some unkind words, and slaps the back of Rock's head. Rock into the STEEL steps headfirst. Jericho rolls in - and back out - and spots the commentary table. Jericho takes the top of the table and throws it on top of Rock...then starts rearranging furniture. Montiors out, fans out - Rock on top - Jericho on top - what's he gonna do - THE STROKE - THROUGH THE TABLE!! Heyman calls it "the Break Down" so I guess we've finally got a name for Jericho's version of the forward Russian legsweep. Give it a replay. Jericho's back in the ring...and Rock is busted wide open. Jericho - JERICHO IS UNDOING A TURNBUCKLE COVER. Patrick is busy checking on the Rock, and misses it - Jericho back out - Patrick won't let him at the Rock. Rock pulls *himself* up - Jericho out after him now - right hand to the cut - right - Rock rolled back in the ring...and Jericho follows. Right hand. OHHHHH ROCK'S HEAD MEETS THE EXPOSED EYE BOLT. Right, right, every punch opening up the cut - ANOTHER shot to the STEEL. Right, right, right, A THIRD shot with the turnbuckle. But Rock STILL comes back - right, right, Jericho ducks, double leg, WALLS OF JERICHO! Rock gives us the "blood pouring down" face - tries to power out of the Winnipeg Crab...but the ropes are too far - he's passing out! NO HE'S NOT! HE GETS THE ROPE!! Jericho pulls him out - going for the Walls again - NO! Rock rolls him up in a small package - 1, 2, 3! NOOOOOOO Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new WCW Champion. (15:07) But it's *Jericho* taking the belt from Nick Patrick - he's gonna - no, he IS gonna give it to him, all right - but not like we think - he winds up - WHACK! Jericho BRAINS him with the big gold belt! And now Jericho is outside - he's got a chair! Back inside - WHACK! They play Jericho's music! Jericho's snapped - HE'S GOING BACK!! He's got the chair again - WHACK! Oh man RIGHT on the Rock's elbow - Rock is PISSED off. That wasn't supposed to land like THAT. Play Jericho's music again! Raw Zone credits are up - we're out of time. Wow. This segment didn't save the show but... by God, it ALMOST did. Man, I wish Jericho had won, though...but that was STILL pretty damn cool. What'll happen next? During a sweeps month, ANYTHING is possible!
