Police Track Down Alleged Internet Predator

 

Man Apparently Moves Out Of State

 

Police tracked down a Royal Oak man who was apparently attempting to communicate with children on the Web, Local 4 reported. 

 

Mark Mej, 41, was arrested after police say he was attempting to pick up an officer who posed as a boy over the Internet.

 

Police say they had numerous telephone and Internet conversations with Mej over a 30-day period. 

 

When undercover officers tried to arrange a meeting with Mej (pictured, left), he reportedly became suspicious, saying he didn't want to jeopardize his life over a cute boy, according to the station's reports.

 

Officers obtained a warrant to search Mej's Royal Oak apartment, but when they arrived, the suspect's landlord said Mej had packed up and moved to New York, according to police.

 

Royal Oak police later caught up with Mej at an apartment in Brooklyn, N.Y.

 

"There is no doubt that the arrest of this individual has prevented him from any future contact with minors," said Lieutenant Donald Foster, of the Royal Oak Police Department.

 

Mej was arraigned on two felony charges. If he's convicted, he could face up to 14 years in prison.

 

And the thing is, the cops tried to set the meeting, the guy said no and he got arrested anyway. This kind of screams entrapment.

Seriously though, this does sound like entrapment and I won't be surprised if this is thrown out.

Wow, never see Dames in these parts. I guess having to suffer through a Lex Luger ME is enough to make anybody wish to cleanse the taste from their mouths.

 

But, yes, this reeks of entrapment. I don't see how they can HOPE to get a conviction on this one. Heck, they are probably looking at a civil rights suit against them.
