Downhome 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2003 I didn't catch any of the details, but I just heard this news on Fox News. One of the greatest pitchers of all time, has passed away. Here is a bit of info on his career from the National Baseball Hall of Fame... Warren Edward Spahn Born: April 23, 1921, Buffalo, New York Batted: left Threw: left Played for: Boston Braves, Milwaukee Braves, New York Mets, San Francisco Giants Elected to Hall of Fame by BBWAA: 1973 315 votes of 380 ballots cast: 82.89% Career Pitching Record Hall of Fame Plaque Stylish Warren Spahn is the winningest left-hander in history with 363 victories, all but seven coming with the Boston-Milwaukee Braves. He was a 20-game winner 13 times, including six years in a row; and led the National League in wins eight times and complete games on nine occasions. He still holds the National League lifetime mark for innings pitched over his 21-year career, during which he hurled two no-hitters and won the 1957 Cy Young Award. He earned the prestigious Purple Heart and Bronze Star in World War II. Did you know ... that Warren Spahn holds the National League record for most career home runs by a pitcher with 35? ...as a Braves fan, this really means a lot to me. Rest in peace Warrent Spahn, you will not be forgotten. Sincerely, ...Downhome...

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2003 Warren Spahn's Career Statistics What strikes me most about Spahn is that he missed time early in his career thanks to WWII. Had he pitched those years, its easily concievable that he MIGHT have won 400 games.

Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2003 Shame on SportsCenter for not mentioning it at 5:00. It was breaking news at the time, but Dan Patrick couldn't of reported it on TV.
Fökai 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2003 I'm sure they didn't have credible sources to report it, or else they would've without a second thought. RIP Mr. Spahn.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2003 Quite possibly the best player to ever come out of Buffalo...and the best lefty EVER. On this, I would disagree (I think Lefty Grove is the greatest ever). But Spahn certainly belongs at the end of the discussion.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2003 I'm sure they didn't have credible sources to report it, or else they would've without a second thought. RIP Mr. Spahn. It was on the ticker has breaking news. For a second it would of been nice if they would of stopped kissing the NFL's ass, and passed the news along.
